Trying to beat MPI Iceberg 1.3 the brute force way...

I know I can figure this out on my own if given enough time.  But I figured I'd ask the question here.

I could course along the north end of the island and take the relatively unguarded bio pool at the far end, but I'd rather pour through the CPU's attacking forces and make a head to head battle out of it.  I also don't want to cheat and put up gun towers near where the CPU stages its forces to attack my base, picking them off before they charge.

The problem is that I'm real good at turtling in and defeating incoming forces.  But spreading while forces are staging and attacking is another matter altogether.

I want to play the "take one pool at a time" technique, taking a pool and setting up defenses to hold it, and repeat with each pool until the CPU has no pools with which to build forces, and then go in for the kill.

What kind of force do you use to do this (take pools and defend yourself while on the march, I mean)?  I am playing with myself as NSDF against the Scions, by the way.  And by the time I have enough of a base built, I only have the first two pools, which is plenty with all the free scrap I get from attacking enemies.  But the CPU upgrades itself and is sending maulers in on me.  They make mincemeat out of my advancing force.

Thanks for any insight and techniques you wish to share!

If you've selected Hardest level and playing alone, then I suggest taking care of your 2 base pools and then upgrade units from there to attack and take over the other pools (one's with spires).  Getting a bomber up would be the easiest way to succumb the AI team.  Once you get a bomber up, they have no chance and their forces will dwindle next to nothing.  From there you can take every pool on the map if you like.  Also, this isn't G66, FE and/or strat, so you don't have to really think about covering your base's backyard and inbetweens.  If you don't want to take the bomber route, then build chain Rats and FAF TRT's, etc.   Or just take 6 trucks with you in a assault unit (LM or BD).  :D

The enemy Maulers are very very good against Walkers and
Assault Tanks. Use something else.

Your Sabres and Mortar Bikes are good against maulers,
with chaingun Rattlers to back them up you can advance
from pool to pool.
Rocket tanks are good in defence to back up the Rattlers
against mauler attacks, but advancing with them can get
them eaten a bit quickly.

Using Bomber or lots of APCS wins rather too easily on iceberg.

Chain turrets and RTs with Hornets is my favorite.  Use tanks with SP's to help defend on the move....lots of them.

Exactly.  That's my favorite, dual packs of SP Sabres.  Keep one group on the pad and one in the field at all times, and it doesn't hurt to have another following you around, either.

By pack I mean three to five, btw, as more than that tend to get in each other's way.  I usually keep three with me and have a couple of groups of five in the wings at all times.

Yeah to take a new area, I usually will move in chain turrets (like ten of them) untill I can get an RT escorted constructor there.  IA Sabres you have to keep on a short leash.  If you use them have a nav near by to keep ordering them back to.

Well, if I remember right you're "tank magnetic" Mower...

One game you lured ALL of my poor Grizzlies to their doom regardless of my pounding "Follow me" over and over again...

lol...

My favorite use of splinters!!!   Loved to get those dumb AI guys to follow me right back to my GTs!

Thanks for all the ideas.

I'll be sure to try them out next time!
