This with the 1.2 patch or the 1.3pb3 patch?

Also, some hardware info might help...a lot....

Gone to college, but I now have internet.

So you know, BZ2 worked fine for him until this happened.

So he hasn't done anything with his computer and it just started happening all of a sudden?

bigbadbogie

i used to see that sometimes on my old comp - i cant remember what the cause was but it wasnt related to BZ2
Others would merely say it was good humour.

My BZ2 mods:

QF2: Essence to a Thief - Development is underway.

Fleshstorm 2: The Harvest - Released on the 6th of November 2009. Got to www.bz2md.com for details.

QF Mod - My first mod, finished over a year ago. It can be found on BZ2MD.com

Angstromicus

I'd generally get that error after another 3D application crashed. A quick restart would fix the problem.

Red Devil

Yes, I got that a lot when I was using the Omega drivers.  When I uninstalled them and went with the latest stock ATI Catalyst ones, the problem disappeared.

Try getting the most recent, but be ready to have to roll back.

BZ2 1.0 - 1.2 (and 1.3pb1/2) didn't deal well with a SIS630 video chipset, which is usually embedded on motherboards. They could give that "can't start direct3d" error on startup. 1.3pb3 has some code to detect that and work around.

Try 1.3pb3 if you can't start BZ2, even after a reboot of Windows. You may need to edit render.cfg (in the same folder as bzone.exe) to enable the SIS630Compatability flag.

I got that problem using the newer ATI drivers, consequently I am using some freakishly older ones at the moment. :)

Nielk1

I had an issue with a moderate age ATI. That's why my new card is an nvidia.

Nvidia has the same issue with a lot of games, one of my friends has a couple 8800.  It just seems to be an issue with all the newer things they are putting out...
