Others would merely say it was good humour.

After seeing those, makes mine look kinda cheap; I just use perlin noise ran through a few filters to generate things, looks very good, but comparatively there is no work on my part. >.>

Im pretty good at making 2 DIMENSIONAL skies, anyone got a tutorial on how to warp it so it wraps correctly?

Example: (For those of you who havent seen it)

In PSP8 (the one I have, yes I know it is old) it has a tile mode where the picture is placed in the center, and it wraps around as you scroll, so you can literally draw off the edge and you end up drawing on the other side.  I do not know if it is a plugin or whatever, made it made things like that much easier.

You could always just render a 3d scene in Bryce or whatever, then render a 360 panoramic view...

Yeah, failed attempt at stratus clouds (Filter-->Render-->Clouds then transformed it by bending and applying a vanishing point technique, didnt turn out right but still looks good in total)

The stock bz2 domes are, well domes... the UV mapping on them varies depending on which one you use, you would need one that is not tiled so your texture does not repeat. You would want the image distorted into a circular spheroid shape, the main problem I have found is of getting detail to not look pixelated, once the texture is applied to the dome, the best looking ones I have managed to make are indistinct ones so that the pixelation is not obvious, I have not tried any bigger than 1024 x 1024, these still get pixelated when spead all over a bz2 sky. Distortion of a detailed texture also becomes obvious if the scrolling is turned on.
Huge planets are best done with the sky sprites, but then they would appear in front of the clouds on the dome.
Maybe it would be possible to make a good looking "dome" that is not a dome shape, a UV mapped pyramid for example, but it would need very careful (or clever) lighting to hide the corners.

I have a plugin for Photoshop that makes planets in one click. Feels cheap though, and I still often make them from scratch. I also have a plugin to make space from scratch.
