do a googlesearch for Windows Grep, then point it to your mod folder and search for the line gpistol[]a in all your text files. One of them may have gotten corrupted slightly and now has the square.

Sadly, that wont quite work, since there are a HUGE number of possible characters that are viewed as a square like that. Instead, search for:

"gpistol"

and go though the results manually.
