Check your modem ports. That was my situation not the router.
You still use a modem?!? :P

Wrong for both of you. :P

MoDem stands for Modulator/Demodulator, aka, a device that translates between basic electrical DC signals and a wave (sound).  DSL Gateways and Cable Gateways are neither.  And yes, their proper terms are Gateway.

I really do not like it when people get modems and gateways mixed up, makes it really hard to diagnose a persons internet connection when I ask what type they have and they say "modem", when I later find out it was actually not then it would have saved me on going down a whole path of diagnostics.

Get the cable/dsl companies to re-label the devices and boxes, then. Most (not all) that I have seen read "modem" and as a result the people who get them say "modem" when you ask what it is.

Well id rather use laymans terms since most people dont know what im talking about i just keep it simple.

What are those little devices that the tech isp dudes use to run diagnostics on the modem? Sometimes i do know they use a labtop.

bigbadbogie

Hmm.. never heard of a 'labtop'.
Others would merely say it was good humour.

My BZ2 mods:

Fleshstorm 2: The Harvest - Released on the 6th of November 2009. Got to www.bz2md.com for details.

QF Mod - My first mod, finished over a year ago. It can be found on BZ2MD.com

A portable lab? :P

And yes, the ISP's are moronic for doing that, just tried to help idiots transition by saying going from a modem to a 'faster' modem.. >.<

Many specialized terms have lost their meanings and been applied more generally. Heck, a band aid is not a bandied, it is a bandage, but all band aids are now called band aids cause someone decided to use that word. Liquid band aids are called band aids but they are nothing of the sort.

Since when did acronyms stop being formatted correctly.

Look at how SCUBA used to be written and how it is just scuba now.

The 'Band-Aid' style bandage's I have in my cabinet say "Aid + Plus Comfortable Bandages". :P

VSMIT

Band-Aid is a brand name, like Kleenex, but people use those names for the generics, too.  They become so wide spread that it becomes normal to just call them by that.

VSMIT.
I find that if I don't have a signature, some people disregard the last couple of lines of a long post.

IQ's have really dropped around here just recently, must be something in the water.

I've always heard of them referred to as bandages, only as Band-Aid's on tv, just figured that was marketing...

Also, split topic, can't find the offtopic board to move it to though...

Its gone, we should stop, since CmptWz might get a bit angry at us doing an OT with no OT section.
