It seems to be a problem with the G92 series of cores.  BBB says that his older 8800GTS doesn't have issues, but that uses the older G88 core.  If Steeveeo's 8800GT is a newer card, then it has a G92 core instead of a G88 core.  And because the GTX 200 cards have a completely new core, it may not have the inadequacies that the G92 cores had.
