My computer takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to get to the Logon screen and it runs fine.
The post test is what takes the longest on my computer of all
~10 seconds for the 'beep' for successful post test.
~1-2 seconds detecting my hard drive and CD drive.
I have set my HD to be first in the boot list so that saves me the extra 2-5 seconds it takes to realize there isn't a CD in the drive :P.
The boot screen pops up with XP set as the default with ~4 seconds set on the boot screen.
For XP pro (with prefetch disabled): XP logo (loading screen) takes exactly 5 seconds and BOOM! the logon screen! Which on my system appears after logmein has loaded completely up.
For Vista: The logo (loading screen) takes about 10-15 seconds and my logon box will appear.

And then I can login.
XP is completely ready to be used 5 seconds after I type my password in the login box. (I have no programs what so ever to run at start up except logmein)

Vista is the same after I enter my password.

I have 4GB of ram but I am running 32-bit software :(

Btw, the 8500 GT runs bz2 fine with no problems at all and I'm using the latest drivers from nvidia. I guess 8500 is a card that isn't affected by the problems with bz2?

You must have a very fast computer, then... I have to wait for ages for the taskbar to respond again once I've logged on, or closed a full-screen program.

NEVER do that! If you ever have a corrupt OS crash and you need to boot from a CD, It will try to boot from your HD, fail, and shut itself down... My PC did that once and I'd lost the CD, which meant I had to format the drive

I get the same thing.

i admit they can write some good things, of course they can they wouldnt get too far without it

the trouble is they are very 'advertismental' now... i cant log onto the internet without the word upgrade slapped across my face like a cold fish in a winter breeze... (no idea where that came from)

from my personal point of view they just need to make the OS the whole central concentration point for a user, it should just work and the user can do whatever they like over the top of it without problems. and stop windows pointlessly lagging resources...

Why? I could simply press f8 (before the boot sequence) to get to my boot list for my CD drive. If f8 didn't exist then I could simply go back to the bios menu and put the CD drive back on the top of the boot list.

Again, I have a clean boot. Nothing will run at start up except for .. Wgatray and logmein.

BS-er

Maybe Microsoft doesn't deserve all the blame for Windows troubles, but I say BLAME THEM ANYWAY .  They still need to pay the price for their evil ways back in the 1990s.  Some of their competitive edge was possible by being wreckless and downright dirty in their development and practices.

I hate what they have done with the newer windows, but this is the same thing I hear all the time from those Mac loving weirdos (as in sleep with their Macs).

A PC has more various software, much of it 3rd party, and is the most popular. The most popular OS is windows, so as such, it has the most viruses made for it, and the most diffnt bits of software from 3rd parties that could conflict in a catastrophic way.
