Do those Mac VS PC comercials make anyone else mad?

They have the same hardware.  Modern Macs *ARE* PC's.

Macs only come with certain hardware because the OS has been tested to the moon and back with them to make sure they work and that they work well with that hardware.

Windows will run just fine on Macs, and you can usually get a Windows license with your Mac to have them both pre-installed on the thing, you can even run them at the same time and switch between them with a hotkey (as we do at my work).

The Mac kernal is BSD, as such it can run anything BSD can, as such it can run anything Linux can, and with Windows running at the same time that lets you run just about anything in existence.

Macs price is because they are guaranteed to work, the monitors are almost stupid high quality compared to anything most people get for normal Windows-designed PC's, most Macs come with multi-button mice (all the ones at my work have come that way at least), and the support is actually decent compared to the Microsoft joke that is support (unless you are a large company paying tons of money; if you are a normal user, screw you).

Apple does not want their OS running on non-Mac tested hardware because they want to maintain their brand image of always working, and most problems people have are because of installed third-party hardware (just as most problems with Windows do not actually stem from Windows, but rather the hardware manufacturers; Macs bypass that by testing a certain subset extensively).

Some of the Macs at work the people have some of the Linux GUI's running on them (KDE, Gnome, and XFCE I have seen there), so you are not 'forced' to the Mac GUI if you really want.

Vista is a piece of crap compared to XP, yes it has some enhancements such as the TCP stack actually being from this century and enhanced threading model, nothing else of it have I seen better and XP is generally vastly superior to the other things.  Yes, we have this at work too, we do not have it installed anywhere but the public labs, though I work in Systems so I do not have to touch that crap, and no one else back in Systems is running Vista either, probably 70% run XP, 25% run Mac, and 45% run Linux, yes there is overlap because some have multiple OS's installed and switch between them... especially on the Macs...

I have never yet heard of a Mac or Linux computer here ever crashing or locking-up, yet there are plenty of interesting stories with Windows (and a couple *very* interesting stories on the one Windows server we have to have because of some licensing crap).

Yes, Right-Clicking works just fine on Macs (and Linux and Windows and near everything else that supports mice out there).

Yes, one of the stock Macs at work is overclocked.

Yes, the commercials are stupid.

Yes, many of you are also stupidly mis-informed.

Yes, this thread should be closed.

Like i said, prove me wrong if you want.

You still never see macs with the hardware i said before. Fine it might have a few bugs, but it will perform much better.

How does one do this?

Actually...  Do you know what a "Hackintosh" is?  Many people who prefer Macs but don't like the hardware will purchase their own stuff and install OSX to it, with a little tweaking.  So you could get an i7 with 2 4870X2 cards...  I believe the most popular Hackintosh platform is the Intel Skulltrail for dual C2E CPUs.

I find that if I don't have a signature, some people disregard the last couple of lines of a long post.

Oh, i thought it was when you install windows on macs.

But, wouldnt drivers for that hardware on Macs be unofficial or even more buggy?

They would be the BSD/Linux drivers, so just as stable as those, which are usually more stable then the windows counter-parts, except for videocards, which are actually getting much better as of late.

Still like i said, sure get all those, but on macs there are really no games to bring out those things power. Unless there is some kind of software on macs that uses all that graphical power.

And even though they might be upgrade able (macs in mac cases) remember, most macs are all in one, all cramped into one case with the monitor built in. Thats not bad its just, you cant really upgrade unless you get some kind of really small parts.

Those Mac vs PC ads are pointless. Most of the time they are just exaggerating about the issues that PCs have.

My PC hasn't frozen in years
My PC programs ALLWAYS respond
My PC games work 100%

My MAC stopped working during the screen saver
My MAC says that MAC programs are NOT conpatable with MACs
My MAC says that I have no HD space left when I have 236 Gigs left
My MAC won't show my iPod

I could go on and on...

Question, can macs Play Blu Rays? (not sure, but i have not heard of them doing so)

Quite so.

My PC has not frozen in years.
My PC programs do *NOT* always respond quickly (might have something to do with the fact I generally have a good 150 processes up at the same time).  Although my Ubuntu installation never even hick-ups when I have a ton of stuff up.
My PC games do not always work (things like Securom start yelling and killing the games on my computer, so, again, may the makers of Securom be sodomized with a pinecone, my computer is fast, stable, secure, fully legal, and they still try to lock my out... I still need to download the cracked securom games I own just so I can play them, have still yet even been able to install them).

And yes, Mac's can play Blu-Ray's.

Right, yeah well funny, couple days ago, my mom was borrowing my dads work laptop to look up some things (her hard drive failed, he was working on it) was just typing something in on a website and it Blue screened her, still it booted back up.

I haven't seen many of the commercials in question as of late. Mainly since Microsoft started THEIR version of the commercials (which I also haven't seen as of late, in favor of their Majove or whatever it is set) that don't mention Macs at all.

Still, this is a subject almost as bad as Vim vs Emacs. Why are we discussing it?

In a generally generic technically layman's sort of way, semantically/syntactically speaking, Macs are PC's in so far as the meaning of 'personal computer' goes.  Doesn't matter what generation of Mac (68000, PowerPC or modern Intel or 'tween).  Heck even my C64's are PC's (though technically they would be marketed as "HMC", home microcomputer). They're computers, period.  They just happen to have different historical backgrounds and lineages, which of course also includes the marketing (and still marketable) rift between these two parties.  I've used the classic Mac's (the small B&W monitor integrated in the chassis) back in college at the library before they were even called classics as well as the then new color Mac's.  Right beside them on the same floor were the then new AT's (including some newer 386's) and such of the time.  And because "PC" was originally a brand name model, then the only computers that should be aptly be called "PC" would be the Intel 8088-driven IBM PC & PC/XT of the early 1980's.  It just happens that the 'PC' monicker got stuck and grandfathered into the next generations of the IBM's, IBM clones, and compatibles all the way to up to the compatibles we have now. These current "PC's" should really be called "IBM compatibles" (including modern Apples), but who wants to say that mouthful?  As far as superiority, I suppose that depends on their useage.  Perhaps someday the technologies between them will intertwine more and more that it won't care whether they be ['Wintel'] PC or Mac.

Oh right, Majove...

MS grabbed a ton of ppl, showed them VIDEOS of Vista working perfectly, and said it was the next windows. The sheeple followed their lead, and then were shocked! It was really Windows Vista.

The customer is WRONG! See, See! But Vista! But it! Don't listen to other educated opinions, but it now!

Truthfully, you shouldn't turn down vista before you have the facts. Then once you have googled them, THEN and only THEN can you curse it down. I, using most of the features of vista, have run into very little problems.
