I had to chastise Vista in order to actually install games and updates...

For those who don't know, the choice to turn off UAC "Naggatron 1000" is on the User Accounts menu. Do so if you are the only one who uses the PC. The thing HELPS from some crap getting on your pc and crippling it until you decide to take action.)

Those things aren't THAT annoying.

The Mac VS PC commercial for that is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxOIebkmrqs

Now, thats a kind of exaggeration, it only asks if your going to install something or change a fairly vital setting.

Yes, adding "/nointro* and */win* is so VERY vital to the OS's existance that it bugs me TWICE about it everytime I edit my shortcuts...

Also, they should at least keep a list of what programs i allow to run as admin, they dont need my blessing to run EVERY time.

THEY R THE WORST THING EVER, i watched a movie about bill gates and the steve guy who runs apple and it was called pirates of sillicoon vally and it is supposed to be true and in it bill gates drove a grader into his car cause they were racing

That problem was also in XP, i think. Havent delved deep into XP in a long time.

You are missing the point here. The idea is following the concept of least privilege which *nix systems have had for a long time. Even if you trust program x to run as admin, do you want it to start up without you knowing about it? The default config for Vista in this regard isn't that secure. My current settings have Vista ASK for my password for administrative tasks. So I can forget to lock my screen, walk away from the keyboard and not have to worry about someone quickly loading up the user management and adding a new user and stuff like that. Makes it really difficult for a trojan/virus to do admin tasks too.

Of course, if you don't like the UAC, you can turn it off.

Actually, I've never had this issue in XP.  It may be because I was always logged in as an administrator, though.

IQ's have really dropped around here just recently, must be something in the water.

cheesepuffly

I actually never had that issue, either.  Or not that I could remember.

It doesn't ask me. And I've been LUA and admin in my time, so I know :P

OvermindDL1

"LUA and admin"
What on earth are you speaking of?

LUA is a scripting language, nothing to do with windows.  And I am guessing you meant "LUA admin", which still does not make any sense...

Generated by OvermindDL1's Signature Auto-Add Script that OvermindDL1 did manually since Greasemonkey does not work in Firefox 3.1 yet...

AHadley

I know LUA is a scripting language, but I believe it is also an unfortunate acronym for Limited User Account...

OvermindDL1

Ah, right... :)

Love those commercials, especially the one about the Vista advertising budget vs the fix budget.
What box???
