Someone suggested I try CamStudio. I think that was the name. It is free and legal!

tried it. doesnt work with bz2 and like fraps, has a big bitrate which was the problem in the first place.

CamStudio is a desktop recorder (basically a video output interceptor) and is EXTREAMLY useful in recording anything fraps and other programs cannot.

It works for me very well and is what i use to record 3DS Max tutorials and occasionally BZ2 in windowed mode.

After you save using CamStudio, it will be in .AVI format. Use 7-Zip to compress that file by 99%... Or use another format, MP4 is recommended (By me).

Unless someone can find me a .avi compressor (besides bink, takes ages and .biks are NOT compression), then eys thats how I do it.

Throw it into 7zip and smashes a 8 gig file to 80 mbs. Beautiful.

And, of course, 7-zip does "lossless compression". I don't know of any codecs that could be that efficient at lossless compression, though. About the best I've seen is Huffyuv which does about 40-50 percent of the size of the uncompressed video, maybe smaller sometimes.

WF's movie files are extremely light. Very low density. But still LARGE.

And .AVI movies can be compressed by 99%... imagine having a huge tripler... then squashing it and saving it for later... And you can still open it back up to savour it ALL... That's what it's like.
