Flower Mound, TX – April 3, 2009 - FUNimation® Entertainment has acquired digital, broadcast, DVD and merchandising rights to the megahit anime series "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood" from Aniplex and debuting on Japan's MBS and TBS nationally at 5:00 pm on April 5th.

Starting Thursday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m. CT, FUNimation will deliver high-quality, free, original Japanese dialogue accompanied by English subtitles, streaming episodes of studio Bones' new Fullmetal Alchemist via www.funimation.com as well as key video-sharing partners.

The first episode aired today, April 5, at 5pm in Japan.  Imagine my surprise at 9pm EST when I read about it in the past tense on Wikipedia...  Talk about up to the minute breaking news...

I love this time period... and how the Internet is erasing distance and time.  I find as I become more and more hooked on anime as my main source of video entertainment that I'm watching more TV on the computer than on my actual TV...

I got hooked on BLEACH on YouTube, followed it to Dattebayo when they got serious about banning their fansubs from Youtube, which introduced me to the world of Torrents.  This took me to Naruto Shippuden, as I'd already watched Naruto (and Bleach) on Cartoon Network and was curious about the sequel.  I greatly respect Dattebayo for their decision to stop subbing Shippuden now that Hulu and Crunchyroll are streaming them...  it's a good sign for Anime fans that some effort is being made to provide current Japanese releases outside of Japan, even if it's subtitled instead of dubbed.  (actually starting to prefer that, if the subbing is done accurately and well.)

I've long been a fan of Big O, Inuyasha, Dragonball/Z, and the other Cartoon Network offerings.  Now Hulu and Crunchyroll as well as Funimation are taking us US Anime fans seriously, at least.  I've also been watching Guren Lagan (sp?) on SciFi, very strange show...

Of course, the DVR makes it simple...  don't know how I lived without it.  :)

I have the entire series of InuYasha, Ranma ½, Yu Yu Hakusho, Maburaho, Steel Angel Kurumi, Martian Successor Nadesico, Full Metal panic, Card Captor Sakura, Love Hina, Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, Evangelion Director Cut Editions, Utawarerumono, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Star Ocean EX and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Season 3 of Nanoha hasn't been released here in the US yet but I technicaly still own the entire known released season. :P

On the TV Side, I've seen most of Full Metal Alchemist, Big O, the original Gundam and Ghost in the Shell. Seen some Bleach, have the first season here on DVD and the first season of Rurouni Kenshin. Seen all of s-CRY-ed on Adult Swim too, need to get that on DVD at some point.

I love all the options available in Anime, SciFi, Magic, just plane humor, romance, adventure, etc. I'm not to big of a Gundam fan other than the original and seed versions. I like the seed ones because of all the scifi they put into it. If you go into their technical manuals you find some very interesting stuff in there. Nanoha, while being magic describes everything as 'programs' which gives it a bit of SciFi to it. Full Metal Alchemist is very well done and has some great chemistry/physics behind it. I have the movie which ends the entire series thus far, so I'm wondering what to expect in this new season.

I love Scifi Animes with deeper events like a background paradigm shift.
Ghost in the Shell is nice for that reason.

Guren Lagan is great. The story is an epic spiral getting large and larger and larger at an ever increasing and incredible rate. Logarithmic scale it is.

I hate that.

I like simple stories. Thats also why i hate most RPGs, too much story.

since no one cares, i shall now list my reasons for why i hate anime.

1: Stories, as i said above, not many things in anime can you just jump in and start enjoying it. Either the story makes no sense from first glance, or you will never understand unless you saw specific episodes.

2: I understand its from Japan but its being dubbed in american, cant we have simpler names? Instead of Alibosdihdeanoi cant we just have Alib or something?

3: Hair, this is probably one the biggest gripes i have. The hair of most people in anime is so very unrealistic to the point of wtf. What kind of girl has 4 ft blue hair that stands perfectly in a position without anything holding it that way?

4: They have too much dialogue. Sure its all drawn, but we have whole minutes where some character is just having an inner monologue talking about things that are so obvious.

5: All the character sets for anime are exactly the same, you got an Emo, a peppy, a happy, a optimistic, etc.

You misunderstand Cheesy. Its not the content, but the scope. As in, they start in caves and end up fighting in giant galaxy sized robots.

I recall once reading an article that asked "Why is there so much nudity in Anime?". The answer that came back was well written; it explain Anime as being similar to Hollywood where you will find a whole range of items. OOOH, I still have that question/answer saved, so I'll just post it:
QuoteSubject: Why Does Almost All Anime Have Nudity?
January 14th, 2002

Question
Why do most anime have nudity? I love anime but I can't watch most of it because of nudity and sex. And why do they always show what's under their skirts?

Answer
There are two different answers to this question that need to be addressed, or more accurately, the answer first needs to be defined before it is addressed. Anime covers every genre imaginable- from comedy to romance to horror to science-fiction to drama to sports. Anime is also created for all audiences. I don't mean to say that all anime is family friendly but that some anime shows are intended for pre-teen children; some anime are intended for young adult women; some anime are intended for young males; some anime are intended for mature viewers; and some anime is pornographic in nature and intended only for interested adult viewers. Therefore it would be fair to compare the anime industry to the Hollywood film industry. Many Hollywood films include gratuitous nudity, violence, and sex while many others do not. In the same way that it would be a gross overstatement or generalization to say that "almost all" Hollywood movies include nudity, it's not exactly accurate to say that "almost all" anime include nudity. It would be impossible to compile a list of which anime include nudity and which do not, but please take my word for it that there are numerous anime series that do not include any graphic nudity. While it may be taken for granted that some family and children's shows like Detective Conan, One Piece, Rave and Pokemon do not contain any nudity, there are examples of even relatively mature, adult oriented shows like Cowboy Bebop and the new Vampire Hunter D movie do not, in fact, include any graphic nudity or any sex.

The anime that's available in America may seem to be rife with sex and violence, but significant domestic releases such as the films of Studio Ghibli, the aforementioned Cowboy Bebop, the nearly 100 episode long Rurouni Kenshin, Ah! My Goddess, Gundam Wing, the nearly 80 episode long Card Captor Sakura, the nearly 80 episodes of Slayers, the nearly 50 episode long Orange Road and nearly 100 episode long Maison Ikkoku, just to name a few, do not include any nudity. The list of anime available in Japan that do not include any nudity could include thousands of titles. It may seem as though "everything" has nudity, though, because it's natural for domestic translating companies to want to import anime with a heavy exploitation quotient because, after all, sex sells.

This, of course, is the answer to why anime includes so many "panty shots." To a large degree, anime is intended for male viewers, and with the amount of anime that's available in Japan, it's understandable that producers and animators would want to include an occasional "hook" in their anime productions to catch the attention of male viewers. Keep in mind that this sort of "innocent" titillation isn't held in nearly the same degree of taboo in Japan as it is in America. While American culture has developed with a strong sense of shame about nudity and things sexual, Japan is a culture that has developed with socially accepted mixed public bathing and pornographic ukyou-e woodblock printing a cherished form of cultural high art. To minimize Japanese history and culture into a pillow book is of course, absurd and not my intention. These are but two isolated examples taken out of context that, nonetheless, support my point.

It's not exactly appropriate to say that "almost all anime" has nudity as there are more examples in Japan than I can name which do not contain any nudity. Just within the past few months of television anime Fruit Basket, Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Inuyasha, Sugar, Tenshi no Shippo, X, Hikaru no Go, Kokoro Toshokan, Rave, Prince of Tennis, and Cyborg 009 are only a handful of examples of series with no nudity. Anime is Japanese and is made to appeal to Japanese fans and reflect Japanese cultural values, expectations and standards. It's unreasonable to expect Japanese or any culture and its art to compromise itself to suit the tastes of a viewer from a different culture. I can only suggest that if you are offended by nudity and sex in anime, you may want to be more selective in what you watch.

I used to like Cardcaptors when I was about 9, and I still have no idea why...

Going back to the dialog, some of it is really weird... expect the unexpected... WTF?
