I have some good news to the people of this community that knows me.

Yes, The topic says all!

however, its going to take some time. Within the next 1-2 months the owner of this website (http://netspeednow.com) will be coming to our house to install a dish that mounts on our old UHF antenna (the large tower used for picking up analog channels) beside our house. 12 of our neighbors are going to be hooked onto us. Our antenna is going to be a receiver + short range repeater.

The average ping to websites is 15ms. The guy came over and temporarily set up a dish. I pinged many websites and not one went over 50ms. This is nice!!

Since we are going to be the "host" to our neighbors the speed will be much faster than what the website has posted. If all 12 neighbors are downloading at once the average speed for each home user would be 786 kb/s, according to him. We'll see if that works well.

Thought I'd let you guys know

Is this US only?

Too bad, I could use a speed boost anytime now...

Beware of internet explorer it is horribly evil.
Yes it is. Stay away. Somebody should warn Microfeck. And call 911.

It's more like North Alabama only. The guy pulls T1 connections out of the city next to mine, Florence. He has a few towers up in Killen, Greenhill, Lexington, & Rogersville.. One of the towers are just close enough to my house!

Move to Japan. Then you will get the fastest connection you could ever imagine.

[random] BTW, I spent about 45 minutes in Singapore when I was 4 years old on the way to the UK. [/random]
Others would merely say it was good humour.

It sounds a lot like "Geotech" here in Michigan, which is promoting the old "Internet via cell phone towers" bit, but it's through radio, not the 3G/4G networks that are growing now.

They give you a semi-directional radio antenna and point it at the nearest cell tower, after which they can sell you pretty much any amount of bandwidth you're willing to pay for.  It's taking off in the rural areas that are still years away from cable or DSL.

From all accounts it's a decent service, if a bit pricey.  Sounds like being the hub for a group of houses might be a great way to spread the cost...

You forgot your.... fffffffffffffffrrrrrrrrrr..... COMPLIMENTARY rojak...

Also, I'd like to know, are they going to replace the antenna in EVERY house in that region?!

No. Our antenna just needs to be extended height wise since we live in a valley. The repeater will provide signal to all our other neighbors without having to extend theirs.

Well it will be good to see you in a game again soon. Looking forward to it. I gotta admit you were always good in the mpi's we played to save your ships up for an assault. Played defense well until it was time to attack.

I knew it sounded too good to be true. The guy who installs this internet service found out he has cancer. So now I'll have to wait a little longer..  F!

Oh well. Wish him well during the recovery.
