Public 1.3 Beta Archive / why r u deleting post???

Quote from: CaptPicardThe reasons why we are on other forums is because we CAN NOT POST OUR OPINIONS HERE. If you actually listened to us and discussed it civilly then this all wouldn't of happened.

It sounds like Major Tom made it personal with Wiz, taking it to PM.  Without reading the PM we can't judge, but it sounds like MT pulled Wiz's chain pretty good.

I agree with Lizard, everyone should have their say.  Unfortunately some take it too far, tossing their 2cents into each and every post regardless of how many times they've already posted it.

Say it, then get on with testing or go back to 1.2.

Quote from: AvatarHas everyone noticed the "Broadband/Modem" switch and have it set appropriately?

Yes, what does it do?
my 56k does alright online now, 180 ping usually. :) (with full details and 50 to 150 fps)

- Added network connection type button to the general game options.
[Those trying to get cute and make an interface to adjust this ingame,
don't bother-- it's read on entering the network code (before it scans
for sessions), and never read after that.] The
network.session.sendtwice variable is now set (though the console may
not reflect its current setting) based on this-- clients will
sendtwice if the server is on broadband; servers will sendtwice if all
clients are on broadband. Right now, the code doesn't support
per-client sendtwice settings, but that may be something to look into
for the future.  [NM]

Medium shadows look pretty good now, and don't seem to drag you down as much as high shadows, which still have holes and such.

Shadows are very tough to render properly, as are reflections.  There's usually some 'cheating' involved to lower the rendering costs.  Sometimes this cheating produces bad results...

*sigh*

The point of this beta IS to TEST 1.3.

If you don't want to play it until the ship physics are changed then goodbye...  see you...  asta lavista...  don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out...  write when you get work...

:)

Obviously it's important to get everyone's opinion.

However, once you've given your opinion either put up or shut up.  Either test and report or go away.  Don't just sit here and repeat over and over that you think 'something sucks'.  We've heard it, we get it, we understand it, now either get on with testing 1.3 or go back to 1.2.

Your choice.

Public 1.3 Beta Archive / annoying sound effects thingy
February 29, 2004, 04:37:59 PM
I've seen such issues with ESS SOLO based sound cards and Windows XP prior to the sound driver upgrade Windows Update provided about a month ago.  After that the crackling went away.

LOL, well, I always thought of it as looking through to another dimension anyway...  I mean, what the heck are navs???  You can see them ALL the time, in a CB, in a Tank, on foot...  I bet if I took my helmet off I'd still see them...   Weird little buggers...

I've never liked it.  A soft sound is acceptable but this BLUNK noise has always irritated me....

Lizard, do you have the latest sound drivers?

I know that's usually a given but like "is it plugged in?" I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask...

What about just /kick ing the idiot?  Grab his IP and add it to the ban list.

(there's an IP ban list now, btw)

Quote from: RubiconAlphaFirst "Wow!" was the sound improvements. Really made my 5.1 SB Audigy a worthwhile investment.

I've got to admit I love it that the game SOUNDS as good as it looks now...  especially with the big speakers I have under my desk cranked...  lol.

I've never heard the Armory ambient sound ingame before, or the Power Gens...  it really makes the whole base come alive!

You know, it never really bothered me either.  I mean, it was just one less player on the ground doing good for the team.  As a turret killing move it wasn't any worse than Scion flaring...

The point is it's gone and not coming back, so beating it to death is a waste of time.

Wardog (FeebleEffort now) is right, there are other balance issues that need addressing.  The AI is more capable, defenses are better, and if games drag out unecessarily then Offense will need tweaking.  I'm sure there are going to be plenty of issues to talk about.

We need some large games. FFA matches.  DM-a-thons.  LAN-tastic matches.  And then we need people to come back here and describe the good and bad things that happened while playing.

For everyone who complained that the beta was a closed circle of elitist snobs (or any other BS) this should be their opportunity to join in.  The boring skeleton changes are done, now's the time to shape the flesh...  (no, that's not an ad for Fleshstorm Lizard...)  :)

Balance issues were avoided when it became apparent that nobody could agree on what balanced things...  It should probably have it's own board, actually, as many of the changes made in 1.3 made for serious balance issues.

STARTING Turrets are very slow.  I realize the changelog is huge and that many features have been buried in with the technical issues, so it's easy to miss.

ONLY the Turrets present when the game starts move slowly, to prevent Turret Rushing at the onset of a match.  Turrets created later on will be normal, and there are options aplenty in the MP setup screen for Turret skill, Service Truck skill, Starting Force, etc..  Explore them!

Lights are a BIG FPS issue near a base, as is Object Detail.  I haven't noticed much difference in sky, reflections, fog, or texture size, but a packed ISDF Base full of lights and spinning PS's drags me down bigtime.

After that I'd say particles combining are the next big killer.  Some of the weapons stutter me bigtime when they overlap and fill the screen...
