Take a peek at my brother's band, Power Pirate. Even through they're in high school, they're producing really professional-sounding stuff. Check them out.
Artist Statement - Power Pirate is a three-piece electronic rock band from Washington D.C. formed in the fall of 2007 by Emily Pakulski (guitar & vocals), Michael Garate (keyboards), and Annika Monari (drums). Annika and Emily hosted an informal session to meet new musicians. Among them was Mike, who stayed with the two with the goal of creating music with a fusion of innovation and traditional musical theory.
Since then, Power Pirate has found its place in the DC/MD/VA music scene through catchy melodies and complex instrumentation. Inspired by modern artists such as Muse, Infected Mushroom, and Daft Punk, this trio fuses 80s-styled techno synths with hard-rock drum beats and guitar riffs to create the new, uncategorized genre unique to Power Pirate.

Everything Power Pirate does is DIY -- from the songwriting, recodring, and mixing to the website and promotion, the band members do it all with parental support but not direction. I should know, I'm Michael's brother.

But no, I like :-D
Sounds good.
Say congrats and well done to your brother from a fellow keys player :)
Word. It'd be great if you guys could vote for Power Pirate in a nation-wide (US) battle of the bands sponsored by NAMM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAMM_Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NAMM_Show)). It's easy, just hit up http://www.power-pirate.com/vote.html and follow the directions. NAMM does ask for a US address, though. They don't check :p
If NAMM sound this thread they could probably disqualify them.
I doubt it. On what grounds?
It would be cheating.
No, it's advertising.
If the rules say you're only allowed to vote within the US and you're encouraging non-us citizens to vote...
To be fair, we're from Washington, DC. Along with DC comes government, and with government comes diplomats, and with diplomats come foreigners. You can have a U.S. address without being a citizen.
I just read the rules (the actual long list) and it doesn't mention anything about a U.S. address, but the website won't accept foreign addresses though. I think, that's what I've heard at least. I've only tried to put in my own.
I stand corrected.
Tis all good! Thanks for the listen, I'm glad you guys like it.
I have to say, I am not much of an electronic music person, but this sounds pretty good.
Good to hear the positive reactions!
I also encourage you guys to vote, they're in and out of second place in the region, and the top two bands advance to LA and $$$. Voting ends tomorrow (Dec. 5th,) so every vote counts!
[/bump, probably the final one from me]
Oh man, these guys are *good*, the lead singer kind of reminds me of the singer from Silversun Pickups. I can definitely see them going places.
EDIT: Dang, it wont let me vote. The contest is only open to US citizens.
