Battlezone 2 / Keep an eye out guys
December 12, 2009, 11:59:07 AM
I don't remember their screen names, but there are a few people online now that will join a game and lag the hell out of it by heavily spamming the chat box. One of them is calle Bz2pwn00 and he just joined a game before it had launched and said "*beep* *beep* *beep*" like a zillion times.

I think a couple of them talked about 1.2 being better and reffered to themselves as "vets" so its possibly a couple of 1.2 players trying to ruin 1.3 games. Not trying to start a flame war here just reporting it as it appears to be. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same person under different aliases.

Comm Stats / BZ2 yearly tournament: Sign up
November 01, 2009, 02:37:08 AM
Ok, I've decided, starting in 2010 I'll be running year long tournaments, a challenge will be given to the participants each month and at the conclusion of the year we will have a best player and a best clan (and if I think it is deserved some less serious awards for displays of skill during the challenges). I haven't quite decided on a prize yet but I'm considereing custom banners for use in forum signatures.

If you wish to participate say so here along with which clan you'll be in (don't worry about clans too much, if you aren't in one and join one after putting your name down or leave the one you're in and join another just tell me and I'll change the information)

As for the challenges, they may take place on a number of different mods, but generally on the latest 1.3 patches, I'm hoping to make new maps for all of them. In order to make it completely fair everyone will have to screen capture their attempts and send them to me.

Also, if some of you could advertise this on other BZ2 related sites and direct people here it would be greatly appreciated. Let the registration commence, this is open until the end of December.

In this thread, I intend to open the floor to suggestions for names for naming everything, you must provide  reasoning behind it (I will be the judge of whether this is good enough, someone has to or we'll have another fiasco), if it does it will be added to the list.

To keep everything as unconfusing as possible the following system will be used; the cycle for choosing names will take two weeks. One week for suggestions, one week of voting. While one name is being voted on suggestions will be taken for the next.

First up to be named, the scion built ship that carries the Scions and EDF, "The pride of Argos" seems to be the current favourite, but feel free to make suggestions nonetheless.

Current list of names:
-"The pride of Argos" - the scion flagship

Maps and Modding / Is it possible using only ODF editing?
September 13, 2009, 02:19:25 AM
I've been wondering about this for a while.

The command vehicle has a sattelite uplink and I was wondering, is there a way to get the same effect using a sabre by only modifying its ODF?

I ask because I want to try to create a command sabre.

Ok, its become very likely that a the CP will include a 3rd Cthonian faction, so I have written a background for them.

The history of the Metians
In the long history of the Cthonians, there were many attempts by members of both sides to set up a third faction next to the long standing feud between the Olympians and the Hadeans. Many of these were merely short lived foot notes on the long history of a constant war, they were either destroyed by the larger factions or were simply starved of resources because they were cut off from the more established worlds that they were accustomed to.
One  breakaway faction stands head and shoulders above the rest though, the Metians, they set up a utopia for those who no longer wanted to fight. This is their history.

Timeline
A note on Cthonian timekeeping: the Cthonians measure time based on the point where records began and the orbital cycle of their original homeworld (Unfortunately, which world this was has never been established, as no world with a matching orbit time has ever been discovered), a Cthonian year for record keeping purposes is approximately 495 Earth days (Obviously orbital years and day lengths would vary from planet to planet). Until it can be determined when these events occurred on our own timeline, the Cthonian dates will be used.

Year 2267: The Olympians create a small colony on a world known as Valax, the world has a climate perfect for habitation, and the materials in the ground were very good for both building and being used in the generation of energy. Control of the Colony was given to a young noble by the name of Larazith, he had always been against the war with the Hadeans, and so had all of the colonists. For this was the point of the Valax colonisation, to get rid of Hadean sympathisers by putting them on a world right of the border of Hadean and Olympian space. All of the colonists were considered a danger to the war effert that had to be removed. Little did the rest of the Olympian high council know that Larazith had long ago made contact with Crown princess Mexxilia of the Hadean crown, with a view to establishing peace talks. Mexxilia had also been against the war.

Year 2270: The Hadeans are preparing to launch a large assault into Olympian territory, shortly before they launch crown princess Mexxilia disappears and there is a mass breakout from Fort Harla, a jail for civilian spacecraft pilots who had refused conscription into the war. Several large unarmed troop carriers take off heading for Olympian space and are soon lost from sensors.

Year 2271: The Olympians lose contact with the settlers on Valax.  It is not officially investigated by the high council, although the crew of a merchant vessel that went to Valax to load with resources reports that there was no signs of a fight of any kind, but the planet is completely deserted.

Year 2272: The Hadeans launch their assault.  They gain a few worlds but soon reach a stalemate.

Year 2273:King Drolcio of the Hadean crown is killed in action. His son and Mexxilia's brother, Lysion, asends to the throne.

Year 2275: Contact is made with the leaders of a new faction, calling themselves the Metians (derived from their homeworld of Metia). Their leaders are the now married (or the Cthonian equivalent thereof) Larazith and Mexxilia.  They claim to be completely peaceful and want nothing to do with the war. As the Mexxilia is part of the royal family of the Hadean crown they immediately agree to leave the Metians alone, and make an offer to temporarily stop fighting the Olympians if the Olympians promise to leave the Metians alone. The Olympians accept.
For many years the Metians grow a great deal in terms of technology as unlike the other Cthonian empires they do not have to divert so many resources towards maintaining the balance of power. They develop much incredible technology and their architecture becomes breathtakingly beautiful. The peace between the three factions allows a better life for all of the Cthonian peoples.
Word reaches the Hadeans and Olympians that the Metians have created a nigh on indestructible alloy, by mixing various strong metals and then somehow fusing it with living tissue. They refuse to share it for fear that it would restart the war.
Year 2302: An ambitious distant cousin of the Hadean King, by the name of Kaelia, kills Lysion and usurps the throne. He renounces all of the truces made by his predecessor, he declares an intention to attack Metia to obtain their wonder metal. With an inevitable attack coming from the Hadeans in the near future, the Metians have no choice but  to turn to the Olympians and beg for assistance. The Olympians agree, but it is uncertain whether the support will be in time to save Metia...

Any opinions?

Battlezone 2 Mods / Skipping missions in FE?
August 16, 2009, 11:03:24 AM
I remember reading somewhere that there was a cheat that let you skip missions in FE, but I can't for the life of me remember it.

Does anyone else know what it is? Because I had to re-install and lost my save data. (It wouldn't launch)

This was previously in another thread, but I've decided to post it in one of its own following Feared_1's thread so that other people have a proper place to make constructive comments.

Here it is:

In a addition to the Olympians and the Hadeans, there was a third, far smaller, faction of the Cthonians (not got a name yet). Their technological prowess exceeded that of their kin to such an extent that they found a way to make portals that join two parts of space and time as well as some truly powerful weapons of war. Most of the portals did not cover time, and were the starportals that the EDF has already encountered, but a few ripped apart the boundaries of time itself.

The Hadeans attacked for the this technology but were too late. The third faction had locked the time portals and hidden the keys in a complicated sequence across the history of the universe. With their homeworld and its production facilities hidden at the end pf the trail. To even the balance of power, they gave the key to the first portal to the Olympians. With the Hadeans controlling the territory with the portal and the Olympians holding the key neither side could access the technology, which is a good thing for the other sentient species of the universe.

Following the destruction of the Olympians and Hadeans by the Hadeans and EDF respectively, a scion patrol (I'll explain my reasoning later for using the scions) uncovers the key and locates the portal. They find out at a Hadean research facility nearby (the had been trying to find a way to open the portal without a key, but to no avail) about the trail and what it leads to. Seeing a chance to accelerate the growth of the already considerable technology of their race the current Padishah orders an expeditionary force to travel through the gate and locate the technology.

Complication, a new enemy arises (General Hoohah's suggestion (the Hzarzk) could be this but I'm open to suggestions) and follows them though. This enemy finds the next key and the scions must pursue them to:

a) Stop them from completely screwing up history and causing a paradox.

and

b) Keep up with the enemies and try to prevent them from acquiring the technology at the end.

Essentially the bad guys always find the key and the next portal first because the mess that they have made is keeping the scions busy clearing it up.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really think that we should do a campaign from the scions perspective. It could be interesting because the IS/EDF has a load of established background throughout the various mods but the scions don't seem to be touched upon as much, so therefore we can add a lot of depth to them. They are also more technologically minded than humans and so that combined with the new technology means we could invent some very cool vehicles for them, plus its more believable that they would be able to make advanced Cthonian technology work.

I'll flesh this out later but what does everyone think of it for now?

I have a suggestion for a new style of multiplayer/ IA mission. Instead of the traditional destroy the enemy, how about a mission where you try to amass scrap by controlling a large majority of the pools on the map? You then use the scrap to fire a megagun (or something similar) and the enemy base is fryed by it?

I'm just throwing it out there to see if anyone likes it.

I've installed pb4 before but for some reason I can't do it again now that I've reinstalled bz2

I keep getting the message at the end saying that it hasn't installed properly

I have no clue what the problem is
