1.3 Public Beta 5: Tech Alpha 5 / DM-X
August 07, 2009, 12:50:39 PM
Come and go like the wind...

This is a small mod of the 2 ISDF and Scion default Scouts/Drones.

Just select the Thunderbolt and Drone from the vehicle list in order to try them out.

I'm leaving a DM up now using just those two units.

Unzip to your BZ2 root so that the DM-X folder is created in addon

Just drag DMX folder out of addon to uninstall/disable.

Battlezone 2 / Losing
August 05, 2009, 09:11:34 PM
People need to lose more often.

I'll join a DropZone MPI with others on Insane and win all the time.

I can join a Strat with good players and win.

I joined an FFA after it had been up for 2..3 hours and (somehow) won.

I guess my point is that people not only play to win, but they expect to win, as if they're thinking, "I think I'll go win a game of BZ/BZ2 now to make me feel better."

edit: If people lost more often instead of winning more often, would that deter them from playing or discourage them?

Thoughts?

Maps and Modding / Adding Stock Voiceovers To Keys
July 18, 2009, 12:47:15 PM
Copy bzgame_keys.cfg to addon and add this:

Bind("-shift Numpad0", "Game.playsound team0112.wav; network.chateditline 'DEFEND MY TARGET!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad1", "Game.playsound team0102.wav; network.chateditline 'RETURN TO BASE!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad2", "Game.playsound team0103.wav; network.chateditline 'I NEED SERVICE!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad3", "Game.playsound team0104.wav; network.chateditline 'I`M ON FOOT!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad4", "Game.playsound team0105.wav; network.chateditline 'I LOST MY SHIP!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad5", "Game.playsound team0108.wav; network.chateditline 'WE`RE UNDER ATTACK!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad6", "Game.playsound team0109.wav; network.chateditline 'TAKE COMMAND!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad7", "Game.playsound team0113.wav; network.chateditline 'DEFENDING!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad8", "Game.playsound team0114.wav; network.chateditline 'I`M GOING ON OFFENSE!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad9", "Game.playsound team0115.wav; network.chateditline 'I NEED A SHIP!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad.", "Game.playsound team0116.wav; network.chateditline 'PROTECT THE SCAVENGERS!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad/", "Game.playsound team0110.wav; network.chateditline 'ACKNOWLEDGED!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift Numpad*", "Game.playsound team0111.wav; network.chateditline 'NEGATIVE!' ;network.chatline.entered");
Bind("-shift NumpadEnter", "Game.playsound team0101.wav; network.chateditline 'I NEED HELP!' ;network.chatline.entered");

Or you can replace the sounds and text with anything you want.

I think only you can hear the voiceover, tho.

NKorea says it will 'weaponize' its plutonium

  By KWANG-TAE KIM, Associated Press Writer Kwang-tae Kim, Associated Press Writer   – 6 mins ago

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea vowed Saturday to step up its atomic bomb-making program and threatened war if its ships are stopped as part of new U.N. sanctions aimed at punishing the nation for its latest nuclear test.

North Korea's Foreign Ministry also acknowledged for the first time that the country has a uranium enrichment program, and insisted it will never abandon its nuclear ambitions. Uranium and plutonium can be used to make atomic bombs.

The most annoying thing I've experienced over the past few years is that darn crawl that appears at the bottom of the TV screen every five minutes warning about the impending switch to digital TV signals.

So it's no wonder I find this amazing:

News / G66 2.0
May 15, 2009, 01:50:51 AM
G66 2.0 will be released soon.

For those of you who do not know about G66, G66 was made by Natty Bumppo, one of the very best BZ2 Modders ever, if not the best.

Features:

Four Difficulty Levels
Earthquakes
Volcanoes
Geysers
Mine Fields
Patrols
Subversion
AI Weapon Upgrades
Siege Tanks
Skill Progression
Pumas
Light Walkers
Rogue Attacks
Advanced Weapons
Gorgons
Mortar Pods

...and other assorted evil...

I have had the honor of working on G66 for the past few months and it has been very humbling.  Most of what modders are doing now was already done almost 10 years ago - but Natty went one (huge) step further and wrapped it in a magnificent DLL programmed in C++.

Just so you know - you will die.

1.3 Public Beta 5: Tech Alpha 5 / Known Issues
April 25, 2009, 09:21:49 AM
Should have posted this at the outset.  I'll add to the list as I wake up...

1. Spotlights - They're really expensive in DX9, so copy this section out of GamePrefs.ini into LocalPrefs.ini and tweak the setting downwards until it works okay on your rig:

// Spotlights are the most expensive light, according to DX9 docs.
// So, an extra cull is put on them. If (range of spotlight +
// SpotlightRangePad) < (2D distance between object being lit and the
// spotlight), then a spotlight will be considered for lighting that
// object.  If this value is too small, then corners of a boxy object
// may not be accurately lit. If this value is too big, then
// performance may suffer as DX9 is told to apply too many lights to
// an object. Pick your poison.
SpotlightRangePad = 8

Some text files of interest are:

ChangeLog.txt

This lists all the changes made for the patch.

GamePrefs.ini (Read-Only, located in addon\config)

   Above each setting is a description of what the setting does.

   If you want to edit the settings in GamePrefs.ini, you'll need to copy the settings to LocalPrefs.ini and edit them there.

   If you want to have settings for when playing BZ2 and different settings for the Editor, copy them to LocalPrefs_bzone.ini and to LocalPrefs_bz2edit.ini and edit them there.

render.cfg (located in the root folder) which you can use to adjust some graphics settings.

render_editor.cfg (located in the root folder) which you can use to adjust some graphics settings used in the Editor.

ModLog  (WIP, not yet published) Created by Commando

   This file is worth its weight in gold to modders.  It is a MS Help file which categorizes a compilation of all the new features and settings in all the patches.

   When he publishes it, be sure to grab it.
