Post by: NIGHTOWL1 on March 25, 2009, 04:04:32 PM

Run quickly to each of the structures and press the "I" key.

Really, really quickly...

God I wish we could make a mini patch that fixes that... give the player an extra 20 seconds or something.

I suppose all BZ1 mission scripts are written in C++.... anyone know how to edit them?

What's odd is I have NEVER had any issues with that, not a one speed or otherwise. I even take the time to read the info blocks (if they had anything, its been a while).

The missions are coded into the engine in BZ1.

I never had a problem with that either, but part of the trick is to NOT engage the Turrets and Howitzer.  Let your men take care of them while you cruise by with the Recycler.  This gives you plenty of time to "I" the structures.

The other issue with that mission is that having 'auto identify' on in the Options breaks the scripting.  You need to make sure that's turned off before playing that mission.

(In BZC the time is set by the difficulty, and there's a 'feedback noise' when you "I" something to let you know you've done it.  This is because in this mission all three structures have the same "I" screen and some people got confused by that...)

Speaking of BZC..... When?

When, When, WHEN???   :-)

I never had a problem with that mission either. Part of the mission is doing it quickly.
Do it quickly as the mission says you need to and you won't have a problem. It's a game...if the missions were made easier to complete then people would be less satisfied and want more.

-Av-Thanx, it needed the auto identifier turned Off.

hmmm...yeah. There is no message there, just a dynamic link to the message which should cause it to display, but after previewing, it doesn't. Have these boards been updated? I haven't been keeping up with cms's lately. Not sure what the latest version of SMF is.
It used to work here, and yes, you could quote a quote - and you should be able to.
Is this a stand alone installation? = I can probably fix it.
If it's provided by smf = can't do much about it. Report this bug to SMF developers.

I don't use bzc's version. Those Fugly skins and the completely unnecessary name changes they made are very annoying as well as probably chasing people away that might download it. I use the stock version from the original disk with a few addons (like the blue stealth skin and other skins I made).

It is an administration option, it is not a bug, just someone enabled the option to remove embedded quotes.

In my case "BZC" (capitals) is "Battlezone Classic", my mod for BZ2.  I'm trying to stay as true to the original missions as possible but it's hard not to fix some things that were SO complained about...

I agree that the Battlezone Club release did some annoying things (Grizzly skin, fwiw) but it's nice to have a BZ1 that runs under XP without MP issues.  Then again there's all those thrusters...  sheesh...  :)

All those thrusters are working on the original model. The retail avtank.vdf had been hex edited which messed up the model. (parts of the tank was out of place/misaligned)

1.4L is no longer distributed.

Take this recycler to the 5th who have lost their recycler.
Wait, we are detecting an unknown object ahead
Identify alien relics
Deploy recycler, say goodbye to the 5th
Get to the launchpad through the high wall canyons and inspect it so we know where soviets took the log from the alien relics.
5th says we will delay them to give you more time, even though you won't come rescue us.

Just my summary of it :)

That mission was scripted as poorly as can be.

You can proceed to watch the cutscene and hear how bad they are dying while watching the NSDF kick total CCA ass. In one go through, I've seen the 5th take out every CCA ship.

That mission also had CCA destroyers killing the NSDF Lincoln carrier. Would've been fun to watch that cutscene.

The tug, rocket tank and a good few other ISDF vehicles in BZ2 use the Wolverine soundset. That needs fixing.

Inquiring minds want to know...

Are they from Elite Corps?

On that last Mars mission if you peruse the sound files for it in the zfs file you will find a whole bunch of wav files that were done apparently by the developers (not the voice actors) outlining a more evolved story where CCA and NSDF ships in orbit have a battle while the NSDF is trying to stop the relic transport from getting away, I think the NSDF ships mentioned were the Lincoln and Roosevelt(?). I guess they dropped that part of it though.

Cutscenes can be annoying. In TRO, they can get you killed. On the 2nd mission where the recyclers thrusters go down there is a cutscene where the chinese bombers come in and kill it, and one of the first times I played this I watched the bombers turn on my tank after killing the recycler and blast it to peices, and my pilot ejected and was spattered by rocket splash. Instead of finishing the mission I got the "Killed in Action" screen. WTF? After that I would get the recycler thru the last wave of fighters and go hide in the nearby crater.  :-D

Um..  well..  of course I did!  Ya, that's the ticket...

Seriously, I'm not all-knowing and I don't have a BZ CD for a heart...  I'm sure there's a lot that was going to go into BZ1 and got cut,  just like BZ2.  All the more room for fans to put it all back in...  :)

Would be GREAT to get some first-hand views from the original Dev team about what they'd have like to do but weren't given time...  they could tell us and we could do it, then call it a 'Director's Cut'.

Yeah, that's possible, if you could find the developers.. but that would be a project in itself..  :-D
