Um, yea... Looks like I derailed the thread without intending to... ^^;

If someone wants to relocate the BZ2 parts, I wouldn't mind as long as I knew where it went.

So pretty much the disc is screwed then... I'm guess the only way to get that file is another disc or some methods that's not allowed to be mentioned here then. Well, would it be illegal since my copy is damaged though? o.0

Looks like data1 is a complete write off, I can't even get Windows to copy it from the disc. Everything else comes off the disc just fine.

I just hope that data1.cab is the only problem I have with this hole. I remember getting a scratch on the disc that made an invisible wall during the mission on Rend where the command ship gets shot down. It was in such a spot that prevented me from being able to complete the mission.

You mean data1.cab? Because WinRAR is telling me that file is either corrupt or damaged.

Maybe if I rummaged through my old laptop I might be able to find an installed version of the game... looks like that might be my only chance. :/

Battlezone 1 / Re: Pop gun usefulness=?

My only gripe around Pop Guns is I often have a hard time scoring hits with them. I've often found then being easy to dodge, would there be a way to give them a slight semi-homing property or is that a bit much?

How would I do that? I thought all the data necessary for installing was located in the install.exe.

BZ2 is surprisingly expensive online, costing as much as or more than newly-released PC titles on Amazon.com.  I'm not sure why that would be the case, but that's what I found.
Imagine my disappointment today when I found a pinhole on my disc. It's on the installer, too. >: Can't install past 78%

Hello, I'm ready to try and help out with the experimental patches now.

I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit (and XP visualized)
Intel Centrino 2 2.4 GHz
6.00 GB RAM
nVidia 9600M GT

So far I've had no problems with Vista save for one crash I haven't been able to replicate yet, which is a marked improvement over choppy software mode and not being able to run hardware whatsoever.

I did notice it looks like the Grizzly is missing a polygram behind it's longer cannon, but I think that's about all I've noticed for right now.

Is there anything else I need to look for other than that shaking effect?

Sry bout that, here are specs

OP: Vista Ultimate
precessor: Dual Core AMD 2.6 Ghz
Vid. card: Nvidia Gforce 8800 GTS
RAM: 2G

Are ya running 32-bit or 64-bit Vista. It's makes a world of difference which one you're using from what I've noticed.

Nope, I meant VDF Viewer. To make the beam shield for BZ1, you make the Shield into a Gun Tower. Add 2 HP for the beams, and set it into the game with a power supply, then have it attack a custom shield that is team 3 with health set to zero so it is invincible. Works quite well, the beams can be used to block a path thru a canyon - if the power supply is well hidden and both Shields are invincible the player has to find a way to take out the power supply thru alternate means.

Red Devil, there are lots of little errors like that in the game. On one mission end screen IIRC "court martial" is spelled "court marshall", lol.
What if you're in a 3 if 4 player game? I would think using teams 7 or 8 might be a better idea, since there's no map I know of that's 7 or 8 player strat. I wonder if that is even feasible?

I see, I stopped hanging around HEAT.net after the release of BZ2, and that was a year or so before SEGA started failing apart due to the Dreamcast not going as planned. :/

I started at HEAT.net as well around May or June of 98.  Rode HEAT for about 6-10 months I think? . . . or whenever they started charging for an account then moved to the acti server.  Bought and played BZ2 for maybe 2-4 months, and then came back to BZ1.
Strange I never needed to pay for my account... maybe there was an option to have a free account or something like that? I remember a few only game services having paid accounts that offer more services. Never was really worth it in my opinion.

I'm sure that if you stuck an M-curtain on it's side and flattened it's effective radius, you'd get the same effect they were going for.

I could be considered an old timer... I used to play on HEAT.net quite a bit. Then BZ2 came around and the BZ1 HEAT.net room was pretty much empty save for one or two people once in awhile. I never did go and see what activenet was about since I assumed it also got emptied and shut down on the release of 2.

It's not that I have something against BZ2, it's just 1 got ghost town'd for me when it came around. I was pretty happy to see peeps still playing it when I came around early this year. Got upset pretty quickly at the drama.

Were continuous weapons not added in because strain to the engine?  The aiming laser code, works just fine without straining the engine which is why I'm surprised no weapon class had the same code behind it or similar code.

Are you referring to the being that appears in BZ2 when in 3rd person? That's alittle different because that is only on your screen, and it's not actually interacting with anything.

The Flash Cannon problem is that it sends a huge amounts of beams to hit a target. In multiplayer, alot of these beams get lost due to the same forces that cause lag or video streams to become choppy. So the target in multiplayer in BZ1 is only actually receiving a small fraction of these beams on their side to do damage. That's why if you play BZ1 and watch someone fire the flash cannon, it flickers or is transparent where in single player it is a very solid beam you can't see through.

I don't think these weapons cause any real strain or else it never would have made it into BZ 1.0, much less BZ2.
