Wasn't velcJam used for when hovering units moved excessively slow or not moving at all to drop of radar. The opening movie in BZ1 hints at that with the Soviet Tank coming to a screeching halt to drop of radar. I could have sworn that still works in BZ2.

General Wiki Stuff / Re: Wiki Production
November 09, 2009, 04:25:33 PM
I also strongly support we use our wiki. It would be nice if we could place in all the known BZ1, BZ2 and FE units and techs into the wiki giving descriptions and perhaps even theory on how they work. We could also focus on giving mods a page to describe themselves, list key features and what not, although I think we should avoid modding tips and howto's in general and leave that to other wiki's to provide. Simply put, appease to the normal player, not the normal modder (although links to where to get mod howto's are wrong).

Thank You! I kept passing that option thinking it was dealing with how many queries to send out looking for games.

This is going to sound silly, but when I host on Gamespy, I get those two "Received packet #" messages letting me know I have port forwarding enabled correctly. The second one tells me I can turn those messages off via gameprefs.ini, but I cannot find the option. Does anyone know what the name of this option is?

A torrent alone isn't illegal; its the right to have the content in the torrent that determines legality. Torrents for the latest Fedora OS is legal while torrents for copyrighted games such as BZ2, Star Trek Armada, etc are illegal.

See if an admin can inject a post for you so you can continue in a 2nd one. Also, LMM1 can now have a short sound as the demo. Also, LMM1 is literally a proof of concept thrown together in VB.Net with a bunch of features added. LMM2 will be new and won't bug out, but know that LMM1 should work unless you break a mod. I am here to help when that happens and it does make log files (so far).
Done. I apologize in advance to bbl for his sacrifice of a post.

Overdrive Terminal / Re: Password problem

I've 'extracted' passwords from over a hundred systems using Win2K and XP, but be advised that Vista finally has decent encryption of the password hashes.  Without using an online lookup or your own Rainbow Tables there's little chance of cracking a Vista machine in your lifetime.  Yet.   :)
This isn't encryption, its policy that was changed. Windows stores passwords in hashes which functionally are one way. An analogy is you put an orange in a blender and you get orange juice, but you cannot make the orange juice an orange again. However, you can put in another orange and get the same results, thus how Windows knows you typed in the right password.

Windows NT4, 2000 XP use the lmhash algorithm for storing passwords by default. This algorithm is old and is weak to computed brute force attacks; in addition it can only store passwords up to 15 chars. 2000 and XP also use NTLM hash storage which is far stronger than LM; if you notice on that Ophcrack site, you'll see that NTLM hash tables are bigger and tend to cost more for passwords of less length than their LM counter part. LM hashes were kept for backwards computability all the way into Windows 2003 to allow NT4 and older systems to continue to authenticate with Windows. Vista and higher started the policy of not allow LM hashes which is why it is much more difficult to break the password from a Vista machine. Also note wise, you can set a policy/registry entry that tells Windows 2000 and XP to not store the LM hash, making their password database much harder to break.

NTLM is still susceptible to rainbow table attacks though (I've heard of tables over a TB big). Until Microsoft learns from Linux and actually SALT the SAM database, rainbow tables will always pose a security risk.

Force changing a password will most likely not cause any files to be loss so long as EFS encryption is not involved. The only content that is lost is any item stored in that user's certificate store (used by EFS to encrypt files) or their saved password database. These items are encrypted using the users password which if you brute change, does not change the encryption on these items.

Overdrive Terminal / Re: Malware warning!

In Windows Vista, the defrag system is supposed to actually run on spare cycles, particularly when the system is not in use. This sucks for removable drives though since they usually are never connected long enough plus I think Vista ignores them for defrag purposes.

The fact passwords are in plain text would suggest poor security. Even with a database dump of the forums here, I cannot get access to plain text passwords because simply put, there is none. Your passwords are hash using your username as a salt; very difficult to get the password from that effeciently.

You're fault for a simple password.
Or he used an exploit and hence doesn't have your password.
Most likely he used something that hashed the same, so I know BZComplex is safe since it uses a different hashing algorithm than anything else.
I would argue myspace's fault more than his. You do know on multiple occasions, intruders have gotten the entire PLAIN TEXT password database from them right?

I also got a success on my father's machine. Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHz Northwood Hyper Threading with Windows XP SP3.

Maps and Modding / Re: Shell options
May 16, 2009, 12:06:14 AM
OK look, I don't like finding someone hitting the ABUSE BUTTON because they can't take an argument. No one here is really breaking any forum rules. Yes, Nielk is a bit heated up at the moment but I understand why. Red Spot, Nielk is trying to tell you how TA5 works; players can specify their custom team colors in the gameprefs.ini file. Your option game "game.teamcolors 2" is used by the game system to determine which color scheme to use (aka, Team Strat, FFA, etc). You appear to be using a number that is already assigned and thus can cause major issues with the system already in place.

I have a custom DLL I write with friends and I have to watch the toes I step on. It worked fine in pb3 but when I ported it to TA5, some of the ivar/svar's I was using were now used by stock. In fact, I was reading an option from the DM "Gravity" setting; so I modify my ivars and adjusted my shell accordingly. Please READ what Nielk is saying, if you don't fully understand what he is saying, ask someone to translate for you or ask Nielk to slow down. He isn't a bad guy nor is he out to get you.

Also, consider this a WARNING. Anyone who pushes 'report to moderator' (you know who you are) when no forum rules are clearly being violated will get a Temp Ban from me. I do NOT enjoy finding these things in my mail box only to find the issue being an argument. If you feel you are being flamed, PM me or another moderator/admin and we will look at it when we have a chance. Do NOT abuse the abuse button.

Comm Stats / Re: Comm Stats - The Rules

100 posts was the opening minimum which is always subject to change. The other thing to keep in mind is Nielk can add anyone manually to the "Sky Eye" group which allows access to use the calendar. Thus, if you ask him nicely and he trusts you, you can by-pass the min post requirements.

Changing Required Posts to be 30 which ironically is "Drunken Constructor" or higher rank. :P
