Title: Forgotten Enemies (BZ2CP): Full Installer Released!
Post by: Sonic on November 24, 2003, 06:47:25 PM
After long wait, the bz2cp developers are proud to release the Forgotten Enemies Full Installer!  The Full Installer will install Forgotten Enemies to Rev.C in one download/install, so you are instantly ready to go and play!  The Full Installer install is totally compatible with the Part 1/2 Installs, so there is no asset problems.

To Download the full installer, go here:
http://www.bzscrap.com/downloads/Mods/BZ2CP/bz2cp_full.exe

Also, the SFP FE Page has been updated with the latest instructions if you care to look:
http://www.starfleetplatoon.com/bz2/fe.php

BZ2CP.com will be updated this week by Fishbone, so no need to worry about that.

Have fun!

Damn, you guys are good.  Thanks!

Since this puppy's 263 megs, I'd recommend using a download manager like GetRight in case your connection dies for some reason or you want to download it in shifts.

A big "thank you" to all involed with FE:BZ2CP and this single installer.

I hope to see even more FE games on-line again.

Great work guys.

Checked this morning and it only downloaded 15.3 mb. Scratched head for a bit then realized I have the ZA Internet Lock kick in after an hour, so it killed it, so if you have it turned on, might want to disable it before you start the download.

FE 3 Way Ground 0 is messed up.  I didn't know you guys were gonna put my 3way mappack in the full installer.  Basically the edf force gets stuck trying to build an armory and they lay dormant doing nothing.  I made a fix for that map a while back and when I find it I'll post it on here in zip form for anyone wanting it.  Actually, lemme retest all those 3way maps and make sure ground 0 was the only broken one.

The Full-Installer's first bug patch, hehe.   It might be worth redoing the installer again once Aeg fixes the maps.  If so, just make sure it's called something else, like bz2cp_full_RevA for example.

Hmm, 263MB.  That'd probably take me ~15 hours on full 56k throttle.

I basicly slamed several map packs into the full installer for convienance.  I can update the full installer, takes about 10 minutes to compile it than using my school's connection when I'm over there I can upload the entire thing in 10 minutes also.

As for a patch, couldn't an updated map pack from Aegis be enough?  If you really wanted a patch, I can actually create a quick little patch, but it might be a bit confusing if it's just updating one map.

RMX pointed out on Timedisruptor that there is a Missions folder under the Movies folder.  Looks like it is created when FE Part One installs.  Looks like they are all duplicates of the ones in the regular Missions folder. Can the folder safely be removed?  If so, can it be removed from the full install and the part one install?

That was installed when you installed BZ2 itself, you will have to ask GSH about that.

BZ2 1.0/1.1 DLLs can't be read by 1.2/1.3 and vice versa. The official location for them is ${BZ2ROOT}\Missions\*.dll, where ${BZ2ROOT} is the folder that copy of BZ2 starts in. It should be safe to delete all the 1.0/1.1 missions not in that folder. [If you're paranoid, rename the folder first, run BZ2, and make sure things still work. Then delete.]

I will have the full installer updated by Tomorrow so those who haven't DLed it yet will get the update.  The Full Installer that will be on a CD sometime soon will also have this fix.

For the past week or so, I've been working on removing duplicates from a fresh install of 1.2 and RevC.

I culled out 514 duplicate files in 114 folders totaling 20.8mb. Finished getting it all cleaned up last night and tested it out in a hard 3 hour RevC MPI session.

(that RevC is aggressive!)

Yes, the bz2cp_full.exe on BZscrap is the up2date version.  Just be sure to flush your cache before you download it, wouldn't want you to grab the old install. ;)

Doh, not another update to the same filename.  I think the first time I downloaded the installer I got half and half of two different versions because I had to spread it over two days.  Tell me you're at least updating the internal versioning info... actually, don't worry too much about it.  I can't blame a community project for not having proper versioning/source control, I know I'd be too lazy to put it in unless somebody else started it.

gg on the mod, and putting it all together in a single installer.  I've noticed a few people flooding back to BZ2 since playing around with Savage - Battle of Newerth.

Heck, I get cd's by the thousands (speaking very literally here), cases and all, used to have a printer that printed directly onto a cd so it looked perfect, but it has since died.  Also have a cd multi-duplicator, I can make approx. 120 cd's an hour.  My father used to record bands and such but he's retired, I got all his old stuff, most of it is antiquated now but the CD burner and CD Printer was still quite good, the printer is dead but the duplicator is perfect.  I am pretty sure you can actually buy a prebuilt duplicator nowadays, probobly a great deal faster then what this one is.  But when we bought the cd's by the box (5000cd's *AND* full size cases), they totaled about 11 cents each, cd's, case, and all.  Of course that was about 4 years ago, they are probobly even cheaper by such large bulk amounts now.  If you do something like that, it could reduce production cost to easily less then a dollar a cd.

Just wondered, does the sale of a mod cd intrude upon any of the conditions stated in the license?

QuoteLICENSE CONDITIONS.
* You agree that as a condition to Activision's consent to allow you to use the Level Editor, you will not use or allow third parties to use the Level Editor and the New Game Materials created by you for commercial purposes, including but not limited to selling, renting, leasing, licensing, distributing, or otherwise transferring the ownership of such New Game Materials, whether on a stand alone basis or packaged in combination with the New Game Materials created by others, through any and all distribution channels, including, without limitation, retail sales and on-line electronic distribution. You agree not to solicit, initiate or encourage any proposal or offer from any person or entity to create any New Game Materials for commercial distribution. You agree to promptly inform Activision in writing of any instances of your receipt of any such proposal or offer.

The part that includes "and the New Game Materials created by you " seems pretty specific.

If the sale of this cd is all legal then it would suggest that there is some unspoken financial deal worked out with someone who has rights to the BZ name and if this is the case, who is the non-company people involved and to what financial extent? I understood this project to be a non profit community effort. Not a means of a select few profiting from the efforts of everyone.

I'm sure I'm not the only one curious about this.

Will you please give it a break? Fishbone is arranging a CD with so much stuff it would take a year to collect and you get to buy it for little more than the cost of producing the CD.

He was think of guys like you when he decided to have a cd produced.

Another fact making the cd sale a good idea is nobody usually has that much webspace.

Why do you think somebody is supposed to just hand you a CD for free?

The BZ2CP forum you enjoy costs money but we don't charge for it.
Gameraters Forum costs money but we don't charge for it.
WWW.bzscrap.com where you get free maps to play costs money but we don't charge for it.
Somebody decides to make things convenient for dialup players with a CD at low cost and a foolish kid comes up and says" It's always profit with you guys"

Tell you what youngman go play for "FREE" someplace esle because your spoiled brat attitiude sucks bull utter, if you can't appreciate what's been done.

I put on a clean install and the full FE installer.
I was looking in the Instant Action maps and found EarthAssault. But the associated .dll seems to be missing. The map comes up but only with placed items, no rec or enemy base. I don't have an earthassault.dll in missions.
Does someone know where to find it, and/or add it to the full installer?

Hey SONIC, case in point:

The map ambushed will play on the full install of FE
(a fresh copy of BZ2 1.2 w/no frills and the full FE install over it)bz2cp_full.exe

but will not play on the upgrade version
(BZ2 1.2 FE Rev.B Upgraded to Rev.C)
bz2cp_revc.exe

I have confirmation of this from other players.

This is also an important issue with the Rev.C DLL beta work, which has decided because of the differences to stick with the full install version for the testing of the DLL.

Both installers need to have the same results or players will constantly have trouble.

DeadScion, could you please give me the filename of the map.  The Rev.C patch only add/updated 5 maps, while the Full Installer should have the most recent maps including VnB updates.

If You can give me a list of maps (File Names Please), I can add these maps to the Rev.C Update.

Something is amiss with the full installer.  I've redownloaded it just to make sure it was not because I had the first version of the installer that the problem exists.  Can anyone who has the full installer please verify this problem for me on their own pc using the full installer just so I know its not just me.  I cannot for the life of choose to use comets in my rocket tanks when playing the edf in fe.  Instead of the factory saying Comet, it instead says Fireflys!  And when I do choose Fireflys, it still does not shot the comet BUT some tag canon rocket thngy!  Please, this is very important because this problem messes up my strat game.  If anyone uses comet and I am in the game I will av.  I've asked others online which version of fe they use and most use the patch to patch version so I cannot verify this with them.  And yes I deleted and reinstalled and rebooted, I've checked assets and I am quite puzzled.

I can verify the firefly bug that Aegeis mentioned.  It is a cool weapon, but unfortunately it uses too much ammo to be useful.  A Hammer barely has enough ammo to kill a single scav with fireflys.  A hammer will only have 6 shots left after killing a single scav when it originally had about 80 shot.

I just extracted the fedata.pak (combined) from the FE Installer and found Firefly's in them.  The "gtaggun_a.odf" contins Fireflies in them.  My guess is the fedata2.pak contained this which was added when the two pak files where merged together.  All I know is that when I merged the two pak files together, I took pak 1, extracted it to a folder, than extacted pak 2 over it.

I beleive in another topic it was discussed about redoing the full fedata.pak.  By any chance does anyone have the original 2 fedata paks?  I've lost mine.

Thanks for looking that up Sonic, there are two of those in the FEdatapak. The one in the root level of pak directory was the correct one and overrode the one that got used in the full installer.

Aegeis, the correct gtaggun_a.odf is in your FTP folder at TD. Try placing this into RevC folder and test if it cures problem. If it does we can post it as a fix.

The Full Installer does have the fixed odf in the Rev.C folder.  I was wanting to re-release the Rev.C patch with this fix.  Do to reasons suggested in the FE MPI Beta, there was reason to suspect that the Rev.C patch was not doing a full job patching part 1+2 installs to the Full Installer.  My solution to that was have the Rev.C patch update all asset folders (FEaddon, Rev.C, Missions).  This did increase the size of the patch to 12 MB, but it also made the patch universal so a Part 1+2 1.1 install can patch directly to Rev.C without patching to Rev.B First.

But I beleive TV objected to the Recompile of the Rev.C patch which can be installed over the Full Installer.  Unless I get permission for the new Rev.C patch, the way to fix the problem is to DL the hot fix here: http://www.bzscrap.com/downloads/Mods/BZ2CP/fullinstall_hotfix.zip

Just extract to your root FE directory.

Thanks for the replies.

Just so I understand clearly, for a BZ2 install patched to 1.2, all the following are acceptable methods of getting FE Rev.C multiplayer (strat, MPI, DM) working:

1. The full (updated) installer is all thats necessary
2. The full (previous) installer patched with the above hotfix is compatible
3. The incremental method (part 1, single player patch, part 2, Rev.B, Rev.C) needs no action

Are the above statements true?
Title: Forgotten Enemies (BZ2CP): Full Installer Released!
Post by: Sonic on January 27, 2004, 07:59:55 AM
Bingo, that's in theory.  As I said though 3 is kind of questionable as somepeople reported having assets issue with the current Rev.C Patch.  If you used my 12 MB Rev.C Patch, you should not have asset issues unless you really did screw something up in your install.

hi there, i just downloaded the full FE installer an it doesn't work.  For one its starts multiple copys of the installer with one activation, i looked in my taskmgr.  An it doesn't even work, even after waiting 5 mins.  If the installer doesn't work, could someone make an zip file with just a copy an paste install method?

Windows 2000 w/ SP4 an all updates
256mb RAM
32mb Vidy
SB Live!

All drivers are up2date an maintence is performed often on both registry an hard disk.

For some reason the fe installer doesn't like to be used with explorer but rather the taskmgr.  So if you are having install problems use the taskmgr to load the installer  with the new task button.  Why, i don't know but it worked an i don't wonder why i just say thanks an move on.

If you can give me more sespefic information like any errors or where it is freezing I could make a better diagnosis.  Other than that I would say your DL is curropted and you have to DL again.  Thus I would suggest using a DL manager like GetRight to Download the File to avoid curroption.

No, FE has still not been brought up to speed with v1.3.  Since v1.3 is still in beta, meaning further changes to v1.3 are likely, the FE team is waiting on a relatively finalized version of the v1.3 patch before they make the necessary changes to FE to make it compatible with v1.3.  This is to avoid them  having to constantly change things on their end to keep up the evolution of v1.3.

Whenever I try to play an instant game in FE I keep getting Access Violation Errors.

I only got this in with the Full Installer.

Does anyone know why this is and how to solve it?

FE Revison C installer errors have been found. Some updates to the installers were attempted but the best thing to do is  use whatever version works for what you want to do until Revision D comes out.

If you want to do multiplayer games without Bad assests talk to the guys you want to play with and use what ever version of the install they are using.

I am hoping the installer for Revision D will only be released in one version of the full installer, just to avoid confusion.

I realize this is a little hard on telephone modem users but Fishbone still plans to make a CD available at cost so things balance out a bit.

Hope this answers your question.

Some IA maps don't work if you select Scion as the race you want to play. It's discussed here:
http://www.bzuniverse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1795
and here:
http://www.bzuniverse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1186

It's up to the map makers to fix the maps. They are not fixed yet in the complete installer. Hopefully if a Rev D is made, the maps will be fixed.

I've run into a problem getting the RevC full installer to work.  This is the version showing last modified as 3-26-04.  The problem appears to be the same one that I ran into with a recent G66 installer.  The installation starts to run; I get as far as the dialogue box with the first progress bar running across it, which seems to complete; but, after that it seems like my system wants to change resolution or something and I get a blank screen with the monitor light blinking in standby mode.

I was trying to run the installer over a network and install to my Win98SE system.  I tried both 1024x32 and 800x32 desktop resolutions with no joy.  (The G66 installer seemed to work as long as I made sure I was in 32 bit color instead of 16 bit color.)

I think this is a video card driver/installer incompatibility.  Video card is a Geforce2 GTS with Nvidia 5664 drivers.  DirectX 9.0.

Most likley it is the same issue as the G66 installer.  The FE Full Installer was giving a special skin for its release.  Concidering what we learned from the skin issue with the G66 installer, it probobly would be best to remove the skin from the FE Full installer.

Before I update this installer (remove the skin), it might be a good idea to wait for Rev.D(?) and or the new MPI DLL.

That's fine.  I re-downloaded the file and used WinZip to do a CRC check between the version I had tried installing and this re-downloaded one, just to rule out a corruption problem.  They are the same.

Any thoughts on a work around in the meanwhile?  I was going to install Rev C on my second computer so I could test out this latest (and perhaps last) Rev C MPI beta over my LAN.

Is there a particular resolution and color depth that this skin is using?  If it isn't 1024x32 or 800x32, perhaps if I set my desktop to that resolution it would run.  Seemed like altering my desktop color depth got the G66 installer to work, anyway.

I looked through this thread and saw that someone else had trouble running the installer from within Windows Explorer and they used task manager to start the installer.  So, I decided to see if I could run it from the "run . . ." dialogue and that worked.

So, who knows.   :?

if there is only skin problems on certain OS's, just don't have the skin appear on those os's, it is easy to determine the OS type.

The InstallShield system is basicly Skin or no Skin by the present of the skin file and the size of the dialogs...No such feature like that in DevStudio 9.

If you can specify in code which skin to load, it would be a simple matter to scan the os type before that, if you wish (and if it is capable of it) it would be a simple matter to package up the code into an object to embed into it, or include it as a dll.

Just wondered, does the sale of a mod cd intrude upon any of the conditions stated in the license?

QuoteLICENSE CONDITIONS. Ã,
* You agree that as a condition to Activision's consent to allow you to use the Level Editor, you will not use or allow third parties to use the Level Editor and the New Game Materials created by you for commercial purposes, including but not limited to selling, renting, leasing, licensing, distributing, or otherwise transferring the ownership of such New Game Materials, whether on a stand alone basis or packaged in combination with the New Game Materials created by others, through any and all distribution channels, including, without limitation, retail sales and on-line electronic distribution.

Hey, not to dredge up an old subject, but I wanted just to say something about this and the copyright law. :) I, myself, am an author and so I work with the copyright law alot and there is a protection in the law that states anything based on someone else's work is considered a "direvative Work" and is protected by the owner.

First of all, I want to say that I believe it's an excellent idea for you all to make a CD that would be easier for people with 56k (or smaller) be able to get access to such an excellent mod. I'm just stating a little warning to be careful.

A friend of mine on the internet made fan movies and created his own characters based on Stargate: SG-1. He made the episodes available on DVD and sold them to people only for the shipping and handling plus DVD cost. He is right now in court with Paramount and is being sued.

So, that's my little tip and keep up the excellent work!!!

And hurry up and post what it wrong with the installer in that other thread.  It would probably be a good idea to post an MD5 of all the files on the cd as well...

Although that seems to me that this only applies to things created through various "released-by-pandemic" (official or unofficial) BZ2 progs...

So the community based things aka Threed? would be legal?

For FE, you will need to download and install the following files.

http://files.filefront.com//;6507918;;/
http://files.filefront.com/RD_FE_MPI_13zip/;7460194;/fileinfo.html

For G66, you will need 2.0.  That is the only version of g66 compatible with 1.3.

Hey guys, I need to reinstall the latest and final FE for BZ2 1.2 again, and as it's been awhile since I've done a full reinstall of it, I'm not sure what files I *only* need to do that nowadays as there have been updates to FE in the past 5 years.  I usually just copied the installed folder over and over, until it became messy and unstable.  Now I need to install it fresh to another PC.

So, does it go like this? >>

1.  Full FE Installer (includes Rev.C) (263.46MB)
2.  FE Multiplayer Rev.D (9.58MB)
3.  Fix Full FE Install (that includes Rev.C) (1KB)
4.  Complete FE Map Pack Version 4 (21.1MB)
5.  What else??

Do I even need # 2 thru 5?  Or was there already a Full Installer with Rev.D made, or whatever was the final revision?  Please point me in the right direction.  TIA!

Most people (that I know of) play 1.2 FE have the Rev. C. Just do number one on your list. You can always add maps/mappacks to it as you find them.

Ok thanks, I'll start with that.  I'm just worried about the unstableness (especially freezes) of FE.  What about that Multiplayer Rev.D?   Is that rev.D just for multiplayer or for the whole of FE?

Ok I did a fresh reinstall of FE, using BZ2 1.1 CD install, BZ2 bug patch 1.2, and Full FE Rev.C installer (263 MB).  This includes both Lostlamb's No-CD and SOF patch implements.  Now some of the Instant Action maps crash to desktop when I pick my team as Scion in an 'FE 3 Way' map.  The 'FE Variety' maps seem to be working ok.  I haven't tried Multi nor Single yet.  The IA maps these are happening on are Box, CanyonX, RiverMayhem, Subterfuge.  I think the rest of the FE 3 Way's should be ok as far as I tested (as Scion).

The same crash I get across these maps is:

ERR |Debug           |               debug:544  |14:52:31|138699 |0050BFAB +056B bzone.exe EXE StatusDisplay.obj public:
static void  __fastcall StatusDisplay::Control(float)

Additionally, a couple of these crashed maps give:

ERR |Debug           |               debug:544  |14:52:31|138699 |00626095 +0005 bzone.exe system crc.obj public:
static unsigned long  __fastcall Crc::CalcStr(char const  *,unsigned long)

So, did I miss another crucial FE patch somewhere?  I may have seen these crashes before several years ago and probably got them patched, dunno.  This is running on an HP Pentium4 notebook, WinXP/Home with SP3.

Thanks but sorry, can't, I'm restricted to 56k dialup on weekdays (weird work schedule) and even then someone would probably be using the phone.  Best bet is on weekends when I am on my fiberoptic line.  BTW the crash starts 1-2 seconds after I pick (mouse click) what race I will be (that 3way menu with Zeeder's chicken in the background... well I think that is Z's), thus it crashes right at the very start.  I will try those other little miscellaneous patches, but I doubt they will work, so perhaps I'll await for more replies first.

Hey Techie,

The Rev C and D patches were for MPI only.  The Rev D patch finally fixed the Scion over-build, the portal bug, added a few optional extras to liven it up a bit and give map makers a few more options.

Good luck on getting it all running nicely.  You may check to see if you have the fix for the Full FE install with Rev C included.  I have a copy on my site if you can't find it:  www.valler.com/bz2 (http://www.valler.com/bz2)

Thanks for the info Scott.  I've forgotten (FE pun?) all about what those last revisions were for.  I haven't looked at the fix at your site yet, but I'll get to it soon.  If that doesn't work, and so far no one has helped me with those errors I posted earlier (the ones about StatusDisplay and CalcStr), then I will be redoing a fresh reinstall of FE by this coming weekend.

I am not sure where to post this  :?,  but here goes... With the Forgotten Enemies mod it appears as though the first mission from the installer is not working properly. There is a major bug part way through where the fourth objective (escort the major) is not highlighted in green even through the objective has been successfully completed. Also there is a point on the map (when highlighted by my player's reticle) that includes the following red text, "Convoy Halt". There is another part of the objective that sometimes appears (it is a hit or miss). Has someone got a copy of the first mission that works properly. Are there two different versions of the first mission, and did the wrong version get included in the full installer :?

How do I tell if I have the right version of the first mission since it directly comes from the full installer. Battlezone 2 has been patched to 1.2, and rev C of the Forgotten Enemies mod is installed.

Completed objectives are not always highlighted in green. The game just continues regardless.

'Convoy Halt' is just an invisible nav beacon used by the mission DLL to indicate when the convoy should go to and wait.

This is the right version of the mission. There is nothing wrong with it at all.
