Battlezone 2 / Re: Mega Map Pack #4

Its not out yet. Those who are on the beta team are still trying to knock out some bugs in the various recycler variants and other things. And don't ask when it will be out, all you'll get from most of us is "When its done."

Civ is right, Pandemic Studios were the developers for BZ2, and has source code from other games as well that would also need some permissions. EA got them closed down, so the best you'll see a BZ3 is the modifications the community does to BZ2. On the one hand, FE just may be considered 'BZ3' to some extent, being one of the best mods available. More like expansion to be accurate.

I don't think a BZ3 will ever exist as it is. Not many people seem to like the concept of an FPS/RTS hybrid. It works when its done right, but not too many are keen on the idea.

I also haven't been able to test much lately with the expansion pack. I've been stressing out way too much lately and I think its starting to affect my health right now. I've had way too much happen in the last month that I can't seem to bear it for too much longer... Which is part of the reason why I've been rather quiet as of late.

I'm not much into the festivities, so I think I'm gonna keep the normal random anime avatars I have. XP

Though, some of the avatars are funny. XD

The "infinite" health trick is neat, but I've known about it for a while no thanks to Sonic. However, if you make the health regeneration extremely fast, you can essentially solve a 'red screen of death' thing that you would get when trying to poke fun in an MPI base.

I use GParted myself. I run it via a LiveCD, and the only down-side I can see is the fact it takes forever to load my 1 TB HDD. -_-

But yes, I recommend GParted as well.

And to answer sabre, it's a LiveCD/LiveUSB thing that boots straight to the CD or USB. I burned it to a disc because I have a ton to spare, so I just do that. There will be no harm to your files so long as you know what you're doing.

Hm, looks like some people are probably going to have to password their games for a bit or something... Then again, I usually do that anyway because I only play with very few people as it is.

Yeah, if I want a nuclear reactor in my home, I'd get it. XD But no, not my thing. XP

Anyway, I haven't even seen the movie yet. And most games based on the movie tend to ALWAYS suck regardless. As far as the Avatar game goes, I can't say. I haven't seen anything on it besides a tech demo movie on Youtube.

Battlezone 2: 1.3 Public Beta 5.1 / Re: DX11
December 14, 2009, 01:03:16 AM
I haven't made the upgrade to W7, and I have no intentions either. Although most of Vista's problems appear to have been fixed, I'm still not enticed to upgrade in the least. I think it may be the best idea to keep BZ2 on DX9 since I'm not sure if Nathan really wants to re-write the rendering engine again even if the DX11 SDK's were out.

I've not seen games utilize DX11, let alone DX10 recently. (I can only think of a couple games that actually make use of DX10 at the moment) So, I don't know..

I used the GreenHeart variant in a strat with a couple friends of mine. It was actually quite fun too. The map I chose wasn't the best for base building though, but oh well, I guess in the end I know how to make use of stuff.

Use, the variants are designed for use under MPI only. There are only very few times where I would use imbalanced variants in a strat, and that is only with friends I trust. (however, it may be a while before I do another game with someone because he decided to be an idiot and break a rule I set) I was actually doing that particular game to teach a couple friends of mine a lesson on how to be wary of your surroundings and never stay still. (the Comm Bunker is another story entirely)

Of course, can't say we like to have some fun every once in a while.

Does anyone know if Bz2pwn00 has a dynamic IP or static? If static, I'd like to grab it and make a ban on it myself.

He has spout random stuff in the IRC channel, so GSH already made the ban on him not very long ago. I wonder if he was the one impersonating Nielk1... Someone came onto the IRC saying that a person named Nielk1 was causing a ruckus in 1.2 games.

Comm Stats / Re: BZ2 yearly tournament: Sign up

I'd rather just use a scout as its the most maneuverable.

The HP stuff can be changed, or rather, its regen rate to something ridiculously high. I need to look at Sonic's little modification to one of the Scion scouts later to see what he did.

Any word lately on how this is panning out? Like I said earlier on, I wouldn't mind helping with judging and all that.

I think what wouldn't be a bad idea for the judges to have a 'special' vehicle that evades radar so that they won't be detected or anything, and has no weapons on it besides cloaking. More like an infinite cloak or something so they don't interfere with the actual battle.

The only minor problem would possibly be LOOT-based maps, since I bet they can still pick up the money bags.

A digitally-distributed ISO would be best.  The company saves on the design/manufacturing/packaging/shipping fooferall and all we do click, download, and burn.

That would be ideal for most gamers anyway, since many would have DSL/Cable connections. But, this isn't the best option for some since they either don't have internet in the first place, or still run dial-up for who knows why.

However, that is where torrents can come into play.. makes downloading ISO's from official sources easier and can put less strain on some networks.

Overdrive Terminal / Re: Forum Tips and Invite System
December 06, 2009, 10:42:31 PM
I've help set up phpBB, SMF, and MyBB forums. I used to modify phpBB heavily back in the day it was pretty popular. It still is today, but I think they're losing it now, and I've long since ditched it. I've moved onto SMF as an alternative since it was the next best thing I can find.

The way people run their forums is different between people. Depending where I host what forum depends on a number of things. 1. What kind of forum do I want? What kind of content do I allow guests to see, registered, and so on. 2. Pick a forum system and mods/packages/themes that would fit the forum content. 3. What rules would I place for everyone?

I use captcha on all forums I run or help run. I use a strong captcha that is not easily figured out by bots to reduce them drastically. I don't agree with invite-only systems personally since I like forums to be out and open for everyone. But again, that does depend on what kind of content you want to allow. And because I have some experience with modifying forum files, I'm quite comfortable with modifying files for a completely different forum system, even though it is a slightly different learning curve.

As far as recommendations for forum software goes, you will never get a straight answer. Some like phpBB, others with SMF, MyBB, vBulletin, IP.Board (Invision Power Board), and other forum systems. Personally speaking, I'm fine with either SMF or MyBB at the moment and am no longer recommending phpBB. (reasons I will not disclose) I have never liked forums where you have to dish out hundreds of dollars for a license and paying for upgrades. Its just too much money to waste on a forum where you can get the exact same thing, for free.

My current forum runs SMF like you see here. This makes it easier to get any help from a couple friends here in case I need it, and also allows me to teach new people the basics of running an SMF forum. I can still do things on phpBB, but I choose not to.
