Battlezone 2 / Re: xsi importer/converter

3D explorer, Threed and notepad always worked fine for me.

The 3D explorer XSI export does weird things to materials, you gotta fix some syntax in notepad or resave in Threed before BZ2 will parse it. Notepad edits of XSI are not usually at all difficult, tho they look a bit fearsome...

Not a mod issue I tells ye! Mod is testing fine on other systems with minimal slowdown and stock gameplay is also ferked :(

It is likely some kinda driver issue which, going by past form is entirely likely - I'll be avoiding ATI cards in future, never had this hassle with Nvidia gear. OpenGL is rooted generally.

Running Radeon HD 3450 on Vista Home Premium with latest V9.11 drivers. Tried running as admin, in XP compat mode etc blah blah.

EDIT: Rolled back then reinstalled catalyst that seemed to help a little - it's running about same as it used to pre-DX on my old system, but at least it's not hanging as much now.

BZII will be 15 years old around A.D. 2014

Bits of it are probly a fair bit older than that ;)

Of course shortening view distances and lowering settings gives slightly better frames but that's beside the point and it ain't a fix. There's an issue here somewhere, the card will run STALKER fine and I get better frames on Crysis than this... BZ2 should not be expected to chew more resources than that no matter what.

In stock Sp missions @ 800x600 I rarely get above 15fps.

Forget Epic - it's designed to use more resources, it just spits the dummy and hangs after 30 seconds or so, no crash just slideshows to a stop. The test crew haven't reported any issues like this so far so it's probably not the Mod.

Bring all graphics to lowest settings.

No. Be buggered if I'm gonna play a 15 year old game with all settings turned down. Life is too short. If I can't get it fixed with drivers then I guess I wait for a new card, maybe.

I'm running a Radeon HD 3450 on my lappy with latest drivers - and sorry to say after installing PB5.1, stock BZ2 runs like a 2 toed sloth - nearly a slideshow even @800x600 with a lot of options turned down - I get much better performance pre-directX.

Any ideas?

Problem: My XSI's won't save from BZ2ME properly, resulting in 0kb XSI files that don't work.

Solution: BZ2ME stumbles on textures sometimes, especially larger ones, rename texture file so it doesn't show in BZ2ME and its much more reliable. Just remember to rename it back after you are done.

Also for those interested, my tute on transplanting XSI's to compatible dummyroots using Threed is on Wiki now. Look up Slaor.

Things haven't changed much then lol...

Thanks to GSH and Ken, can't believe you are STILL working on it fellas, but then again, can't quite believe I'm still here as well :P

Re: 4 lines texture bug, note for FE devs.

That is a problem with the textures that we weren't aware of at the time. BZ2 additive (one one modulate) planars require a 1 pixel black border around the edges of texture in order to correctly clamp it to the terrain - I'm not sure of the technical details, ask Ken.

If there are coloured pixels in that one pixel boundary the texture isn't clamped properly and those pixels are stretched out.

If u guys get around to releasing a FE 1.3 patch, add that one to the list - trim all planar FX textures with a 1 pixel black border.

It was possibly intended but should maybe not have been removed. It sorely limits capacity to do certain interesting things (eg: easy movie captures)

Chilvence, If you have a closer look at Fish.xsi there is a very easy tute there by yours truly, that details about 5 easy steps to export game ready XSI's via free (or at least extremely cheap) tools. There are actually more than 5 steps but some of them involve pizza.

I've tried Softimage - It's a nightmare that you can't wake up from. Could barely figure out how to draw a cube primitive, even then could do nought with it :P

A combination of Threed (free) and 3D explore 1.8 (or so) will have you peering down the barrel at your own baddies in no time.

BTW: if anybody is after a cheap powerful modelling program try Silo.

After 5 minutes of random playing I have concluded that it is perhaps the most powerful and streamlined modelling interface I have ever seen, hoot u not. Seriously gonna be learning it very shortly. At $110 US its a steal.

Pilots don't work that way, and it would require new animations.
#15
Even just using the run animation for it would be better than the slide.
