This was fun to deal with last night.  I just wondered if anyone else got to experience it, or did you sleep through the bad update/good update?

With the better AI, I just wondered if anyone has tried this mission and could offer tips beating it without using the bug?

Theres not really a spoiler tag here, but the bug relates to the enemy classification of units and whether it will attack them or not, and is useful to make this a one front fight instead of trying to fight it on two fronts.

Without using the bug, I find it difficult to fight off a double mauler + titan wave at my base early on, while fighting off a titan + warriors/lancers/scouts/sentries at the cargo location early on in the mission.  I know you can tug a constructor across the lava, and use it to setup gun towers over there early on, but the resources don't seem to flow fast enough, or I'm an inept commander(probably the latter).

I know most people focus more on the multiplayer these days, but just wondered if anyone still did the missions and could comment on their experience in TA5.

Battlezone 2 / Mystery AI and Lore question
March 31, 2009, 07:10:24 AM
These have been bugging me a bit, but I wasn't sure if I should ask about them as they aren't very important.
I am very curious about how BZ2 handles its AI.  It seems to be very different for enemy units and your own units.  With the exception of some units(mostly treaded units or stationary units), alot of my own units seem to have very poor AI.  Sabres that seem to keep bouncing back and forth in a battle trying to dodge or get a better position rather than firing.  Warriors that also seem to do the same thing.

It could be that its just because there are 3+ units and they keep getting in each other's firing range, but I'm doubtful that is the sole cause.  It seems the slower a unit is, the better battle/firing AI it has, and the faster a unit is, the more the unit wants to bounce around the battlefield and not actually fire its weapon, thus leading to its destruction.  I've had cases where 5 deflection warriors very nearly got beat(2 warriors in red zone left standing) by 2 AT stab sabres.  It's not a huge problem, as I do most of the critical strikes myself to cripple a base defense or an enemy attack.  However its just sad seeing one warrior come in and take out a turret, wound your wingman sabre critically, and easily destroy a scout all in the same run.while you're off somewhere away from them.

The second question is more of a lore question with BZ2 vs BZ.  In BZ2 they claim Braddock started project pedigree and was the first to do so.  If my bad memory serves me, the CCA were the first to awaken the power of the fury relic and use it on the battlefield, not Braddock.  That may be me having a bad memory though, but I'm pretty sure there was never a mention of the fury being used by the NSDF before it was used by the CCA.

Just some random questions that were eating at my brain that I thought someone might know more about.

First of all I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or place for this, but I am trying to find some help about playing Battlezone II or Battlezone.

Many years ago, I had a system with a Athlon 1.5ghz 1800+, Geforce3 Ti200, 1gb PC2700, and Battlezone installed on it.  The game ran just fine and I enjoyed it greatly as the only FPS + Strategy that I found at the time.
Recently a friend gave me some software from his old computer and it included Battlezone 2.  So, this sparked a reinterest in Battlezone for me.  I installed both on my current XP machine.  Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2ghz, 2x 1gb PC3200 ram, Geforce 7600GT 256mb AGP 8x.

The games load for me and they run, but I'm getting worse performance in Battlezone 1 than I remember on the older system, and I'm getting the same on Battlezone II.  Being that I've played BZ 1, I'm not as worried about it.  I would like to be able to play Battlezone II, at least on single player.

Now on to the problem :

In Battlezone II, most notably in the 4th mission I believe(but I could be wrong), the one that comes after your commander piloting a constructor and rebuilding a power supply, I get impressive framerate drops.

In most situations around the base, the framerate is around 25-55 fps, usually staying at 55fps.  However when I go to turn and head towards the direction of the two "hardware" that the superior commander in a carrier wants me to protect and not let the scions steal, my FPS drops to 5fps.  It's so bad that it affects my firing rate, aim, and has gotten me killed in this mission several times when engaging the 2 tug-type enemies and 2 scouts/tanks/whatever that escort them.

I've installed the 1.2 patch, and also the 1.3 PB4 I believe just to check and see if they would help.  It has not been any help at all.  I've tried turning all the graphics down to low/off, and see little/no improvement.
It is hard to believe that this newer system than my old system that ran Battlezone just fine, is struggling to run BZ 1 or BZ 2.  I seriously doubt its a lack of hardware, but more something in the newer software that I'm missing.

I just wondered if someone had any ideas, or should I be looking for an even more powerful system to run these 10 year old games?

Any help would be appreciated, I'm kind of lost as to what to try, possibly emulating win98 with virtual PC or something, but that is slow in its own right.

*edit*
It definately seems to be related to ships coming in range/firefights,  goign around the base seems to be no lag, but when those 2 tugs/2 support fighters show up and I go intercept them....    instant 55-60 down to 5-12.  Going over there to the exact same spot after I've killed them produces only about a 10fps drop down to 45~.
