ive been using TA5 and subsequent betas on windows 7 64 without issue,

As a precaution i install to \users\username\games\battle zone 2
and ensure my username has full control over its contents

this helps get around any unwanted UAC issues but i don't think that is even necessary anymore but old habits and what not!

Also, using the DX update tool will update all missing DLLs for direct X, if you ran it you will have all the DLLs available.

Battlezone 2 / Re: Some renders

is that a thinking of doing or actually doing.... wouldnt want someone to start a new intro if its already in the pipe line!

Battlezone 2 / Re: Some renders

was wondering, see instead of trying to hatch a full blown movie or even a short movie, why doesnt someone attempt to re work the intro in a higher resolution with high poly models and new effects? you have the audio and a script you just need to rework the modeling and render it, if that gets pulled off ok then think about something like a movie...just my two bobs worth

ESET Smart Security falsely flags <BZ2FOLDER>/bzone.exe as a virus when the 1.3TA5 installer is run. I know its typically a good idea to run installers with antivirus turned off, but I just thought I should post it here.

Snap, i ended up excluding the BZ2 folder from its scans, however it still has issues with downloading the archive then deleting the exe out of it! its a great AV suite but its a tad over sensitve.

a similar idea is used on Freespace 2 SCP, (http://www.hard-light.net) in short, you have the game, you want extras you download them, they call them MediaVPs, the whole project split in to two, one half dealing with the code, fixing and adding to it (source code project), the other half makes it look pretty (modding), and more or less the only rule is that it must not brake the stock game, taking baby steps has transformed that game, and every now and they someone would make a bomb shell of an update, its very good and they still support old hardware and original game. They did ditched DirectX due to issues and lack of programers but have just managed to get basic shader support in OpenGL, all be it just pretending to be a fixed pipeline.

I can max out the settings at any res at get around 200-300FPS a high poly update pack would be great but forgive me if im wrong but wouldnt that effectively break network games, unless you had the same models etc?

Yeah, i need to put vsync on too major tearing otherwise, never had this slow down even through testing so im guessing it only effects older cards/drivers, i think people will be quite chuffed with all the hard work put in to this

Actually, you dont have to worry about this, the only 16bit app is the launcher which then runs the installer, if you navigate to the setup folder you can run the setup file directly which promptly installs the game.

Worked on every 64 bit windows OS to date, happy gaming, oh whilst im at it, its wise to install the game to /users/username/ on vista and Win 7 gets around UAC issues, i think it was fixed but better install there to make sure you have no probs

Overdrive Terminal / Re: Pimping my newest game...

Ah the Touch Pro, good phone, ive got its brother the Touch HD, thing is with both of these devices, apart from being better in almost everyway than the Iphone, it has serious graphics issues, the hardware is there to knock the socks of the Iphone in that dept too but without optimised drivers, we're lucky to get an HD film playing on it let alone decent games. but since im getting off topic, you should make this game for WM devices, dont lock it to a set resolution tho, that will keep us all happy

Yeah, DOT3 comes to mind. come to think about it, the bump mapping did look a lot more noticable back then, although it had a waxy kind of look about it

yeah, just noticed some EMBM glitches, its funny i never noticed them on my G400 Max all those years ago, shame FE doesnt work with 1.3 yet, never did finish that mod.

Ive sent a wee note off to him.  with a bit of tweaking this game could still be a big hit even today!

#11
Ignore the EMBM and 1280 1024 support questions, its there now! although there maybe issues with it saving settings but thats probably vista
#12
Sorry mate, im somewhat new around here, sorry if this has been posted else where, but who is GSH and how do i get in contact with him?

Cheers for your help

must have cocked it up. the game its self, well single player, works fine, bar a graphic glitch, its just instant action that bombs out, ive not tried multiplayer yet (are there even servers up any more?)  its funny, Windows XP x64 doesnt work at all, same with Starcraft, refuses to play, but vista 64 works fine, i suspect some clever person has managed to make games work better somehow in compatability mode.

Ok,,

My system spec is as follows

Intel P4 630 HT enabled
2GB of DDR400
several SATA HDD, a couple IDE HDD
2 IDE DVD burners
built in 7.1 HD sound card (damn sound blaster doesnt work on vista!)
256MB X800XL PCI-Express Graphics card

RE ATI RC2 official Drivers (its currently using shipped RC2 drivers without CCC or a CP)
Windows Vista RC2 build 5744 x64

BZ2 has been given admin access rights
BZ2 folder has been removed from the read-only setting vista puts in place.
BZ2 folders security rights changed to allow all uses full access to folder.

On a side note, i am totally shocked that BZ2 worked with my 5.1 speakers, its amazing, i couldnt believe my hears when i heard gun shots fireing behind me to the left and right, not even BF2 / 2142 works like that, simply put this is a game shot down before its prime.

Is it possible to change res to 1280x1024, would suite my TFT a bit better, but its not the end of the world, just wondering if there is some config file i can edit.

many thanks

yeah, it does, pretty much every OS from 95, including XP.

I just posted a message and it doesnt appear to be here, did i mess something up or does it take a while

Hay guys, just played a bit of BF 2142 and after using that hover tank thing it got me all in the mood to dust off my old BZ2 CD.

Anyhow, after i updated to your 1.3 patch it actually works in 64 bit vista, im quite impressed! well, when i say it works, so far only the single player part works, i was wondering if you guys would know why as soon as i click on the instant action button it get a crash to desktop, heres the info i have from your debugger, its not much i know but i hope you can help!

I dont know what youve done with the graphics but they still look fantastic, if it wasnt for the dated geometry the game would look new!

I do have some text corruption around the writing in game, ie objectives. and the only other thing is i dont seem to have EMBM working, is there an option to turn it on, i had an old G400 Max which displayed them, so i would hope my X800 can, if not no great loss i suppose, anyhow keep up the good work.
