Title: Serving Notice...
Post by: Red Devil on March 03, 2004, 10:32:50 PM
I am fed up too.

I am sick and tired of seeing insulting, inane, illogical posts by individuals whose only claim to any inkling of intelligence is their self-proclaimed abilty to "hover", which is witnessed by their uncomfortably embarrassing inability to form complete thoughts or express them using complete and grammatically correct sentences, but rather express themselves in a form of communication that could only have been used by the first Australopithecus, yet have the audacity to criticize those who are intrinsically intelligent, educated, moral, generous, and helpful.

If you have something constructive to say, say it.  If you don't, then don't.

If any of you personally attack anyone on this board, especially Nathan/GSH if he decides to stay, you will have me to deal with here - as well as a number of others.

However,  I strongly encourage you, Nathan, to leave behind this ungrateful rabble and pursue other activites which are rewarding, fulfilling, and pleasurable instead of trying to please people who will never be pleased.  You could be in a hammock on a pristine beach in Fiji, sipping a cool drink, instead of enduring daily the slings and arrows of this contentious crowd!

Heh, I thought you were putting up a notice that you were gonna run a server, and all are welcome!  :D

OK, you did'nt and fair play.  So, let's get this straight.

There are a number of people who I know personally that are calling GSH bad names.  Those names are totally unjustifiable.  GSH and Ken Miller have made BZ2.  They were the original creators, and they have PUT THEMSELVES OUT for all those gripers and moaners out there who ought to shut the *Ammo* up.

Instead of moaning, and complaining like some washing women scrubbing out their husband's dirty underwear, they should be grateful for what they've got.  OK, so they don't like some things, well tough.  *Ammo* you.  Piss off if you don't like it.

Hang around the internet long enough, especially in chat areas or bulletin boards, and you end up developing a thick skin.  I'm sure Ken and Nathan, as veterans of this sort of thing, are taking the maturity level of the poster into account during these flames.

Still, considering how much work they've done, some of these yahoos are really pushing the ingratitude envelope....

For those still doubting 1.3, go read the changelog. Not only is it more productive than posting crap on these boards, maybe you'll get a feel over the amount of work put into it. Then ask yourself this, "If my lazy ass ever did this much work for free, how would I feel if people moaned and complained about it?"

It's no surprise. Remember when FE came out? Same idiots, same whines and same price tag. Some people are just fukwits.

I personally have been 'flamed' over things in the past, but even back then I never let it get to me.  I am neutral when it comes to such things, no matter how strong my personal opinions are.  Now if it comes to a project, you can ask BS-er himself, I will argue for something, bring up points and research proof until I either prove myself right or wrong.

What's up PF? Did someone mention your name here somewhere?

Have been perusing the clan forums a bit over last few days and come to the conclusion that a few of you guys are a bit unhinged, if not just plain ignorant and illiterate.

One thing that I did find particularly funny, if a bit tragic, is the way that some of the mighty self proclaimed clanboy "vets" seem so convinced that they - and only they - are the REAL players and are solely responsible for keeping the community kicking happily along after all these years.

What, by exploiting bugs to win, beating on (or simply barring) noobs and abusing developers? Bravo fellas, what would all us pathetic not-real players do without you.

1.3 splitting the community? Yeah FE was gonna do that too if I remember right. Well news for you boys - the community has always been split - one side is you and your ego clanboy bullhoot and one side is everybody else who enjoys playing this game. How could it be otherwise when you only ever come to the community forums to bitch and moan about free expansions and tell us all how hardcore you are?

As for this politics whinge I keep reading about - WTF?? It's a bloody game ffs. Some of you desperately need to get outside more often, or get a girlfriend or something. Might help get your priorities straight. Probably won't help your manners tho.

That's not it, you could stay without any social life in real world and be the most well educated and so on person on the board, has nothing to do with it (I'm telling out of my own experience, I know many ppl who don't know what the sun looks like, I'm not going into discussion with ppl having other experiences). Anyway, even if I feel the same as most ppl here I think this way of solving things saying the other has no right to say anything is completely useless. My suggestion is to start a (maybe useless) poll to see how much ppl will be playing 1.2 and how many 1.3, this way everyone can express how they feel about this without anybody getting pissed of or leaving the comunity. This would also give mod makers the chance to see if it is worth making a 1.3 only mod or not (I would say yes, but that's my opinion), of course, if anyone would have something constructive to say he will be able to reply, everything else will be easilly deleted. This is just a suggestion, it may be done somewhere else I don't know and I also didn't mean to hurt anybody in any way, if this post does, please post that or PM me with the reason why it does and I will remove it myself.

Mods like Epic and Fleshstorm and Dunezone can benefit much from the 1.3 enhancements from that perspective at least, there's no reason not to mod 1.3 - although TV is having some hassles with some of his stuff, really hope they prove to be easily fixable.

Huscar, I think that (apart from the hover thing which has been done to death so many times that it's just plain futile and boring) the main problem here is simply a pronounced lack of courtesy and constructiveness from some of these clan kiddies. Nobody expects gratitude but it's not too over the top to expect politeness. It pissed us off with FE and it pisses us off now.

How this kind of hoot would be reacted to in a real life situation is a good parallel here - regardless of how much sun they get, some people are just rude, ignorant dickheads and will therefore be treated as such until they wake up to themselves and play nice. There are a plenty of clan vets posting here who ARE constructive and courteous, they seem to manage it fine. But sadly then there are those who really need to look up the terms "obnoxious", "moron" and "public beta".

I wno't get into this really.

But I would like to say both sides have crossed marks that shouldn't get crossed with broad generalised statements.

Could we all please CALM down a little bit, and get back some of that self control and maturity? Fighting like this, and name calling(on all bz2 forums, not just here), will get us absolutely no where, and needlessly lags the net.

Thank you for thinking of the poor people still on 9600baud, and lets get back to something that does count, and will help(atleast inregards to bz2), and continue testing 1.3 and finding bugs/balance issues that will improve the quality of this patch for all "sides"

BTW, I know your intentions are the best mate but 1.3 is here now, a poll won't do much good. If players want to dismiss it based on first public beta then that's their problem, hope they enjoy the AVs.

I also know that a few modders I've talked to (who obviously don't help keep the community alive since that's the clanboys job) who, based on the attitudes displayed here and elsewhere couldn't give a rats ass if these rude pricks play 1.3 or not. Sorry to be blunt but it's the truth - the bad attitude is helping no-ones cause, especially their own.

Hell, one guy was so pissed claiming I deleted his post. First of all, I havent deleted a post for about 3 month. So I went back and checked, his post was still there. What is this?
Now is this to be a so-called vet? Then I am glad I am no vet.

let me start

Quotesome people are just rude, ignorant dickheads and will therefore be treated as such until they wake up to themselves and play nice.

well if i think you are one of those and im treating you the same way? what will you say about that...? i think you are being ignorance and you think i am
its 2 sided
read in some of the threads... i said i came here constrctive with good moral and u just took it away
just look in the 1.3 page... before it came out

"if u realy feel u have to comment click here"
and we get "i know how u feel i just dont care"

now, when was last time u played? and how much?
im sure i play in 2 days more then you play in a month
u wanna compare real lifes? do we realy need to?
just so you know im an excellent student and i was offered to a speciel course to get a 1st degree while doing high school, get a degree and finish highschool same time...
should we realy compare real lifes?
i think that realy does not have hoot to do with it
i agree some ppl life are based on games - i can assure mine and other vets are not

What, by exploiting bugs to win, beating on (or simply barring) noobs and abusing developers? Bravo fellas, what would all us pathetic not-real players do without you.

this "bug" maybe wasnt meant to be
but so is dynmate for wars
novel didnt invent it to be used for wars
guess what? it is

im sorry for you that u cant hover... mots ppl say its preaty easy
and its fun
the problem that ppl complain is they are getting owned by that... about raping the bases i agree its 2 much.. thats why alot of our vets game are no hover killing bases... and if u just fix the AI
just give rats the ability to shoot stright up u fix the hover assulting problem.

and if ur getting owend by it.. learn it yourself
i just wonder what happends if u go in a game like CS or ET and getting few headshots by the elties and whinning and asking the coders to make a new patch without headshots so u can match the elites there
if u would make 1.3 before it was part of the game im sure alot wouldnt mind
but it just took you soooooo long and your aditude just ruined it more....
if you know that ur not gonna change it the way is to let us say what we have
and try to explain - even if u get flammed, be right and act more mature
explain your points and stop saying "stfu i have the power and u cant do a hoot and i dont give a hoot about what u have to say"
i realy dont think thats the way

PF - If you read it again, you'll see that I didn't say you in particular were one of those and neither did anybody else on this thread. In fact up till now I'd have argued that your recent posts are quite constructive in comparison - but since that's twice now you have chosen to take comments in this thread personally, it seems to be the hat you've chosen to wear.

And once again mate it has nothing to do with how many hours a day you play, or whether I know how to hover bomb your base, or even how good at English you are (tho abusive gibberish is just as irritating as the normal kind of abuse) - it's about courtesy and respect towards those who are prepared to work hard for years to give you something for nothing. Nobody is saying you have to love CP members or devs or 1.3. Hate it all if that's what floats your boat. Just be polite about it and we're all good. Or else just don't post here.

As for the "don't care" comment, that is up to the programmers - and since they have repeatedly, again for years, heard every futile argument under the sun why some people think that particular bug shouldn't be swatted, I can't say I blame them.

It's not a matter of clans Fried, it's a matter of assholes. I know that all clanners aren't assholes - many, if not most of the clanners are cool - everyone I know from RIP and GEL for example are good guys.

Unfortunately the assholes I'm referring to all seem to be in clans ;) They also seem to know who they are...

wanna know my personal theory ?

I reckon some of the so called "vets" are just scared to play 1.3 because THEY KNOW that they will get their arses handed to them without their precious hover bug thingy , then they won't be "vets" anymore , they'll be "noobs" again . It's all down to fear of change , fear of losing , fear of learning something new and several years of relying on the same lame tactic all the time .

Hmm, well, I don't think so...

I'm seeing the exact same thing that happened when BZ2 first came out.  History is repeating itself.  The BZ1 DMers (Vets of the time) were SO ticked about the change to vehicle physics that it alone was enough to make some of them dismiss BZ2 without question.  The change in gameplay dynamics to Strat-Centered did in the rest of them.

I don't deny that the most violent critics to losing hovering found it fun.  There are patches and mods to some games that crank things up and they're very fun also, like a server side change in Tribes that let us all have Mortors while Light with Energy packs.  What a blast!  But still, not Tribes...  Hovering has become part of BZ2 for these guys and they smart at losing it.  I can understand and sympathize.

Doesn't mean I approve of the childish lashing out some of them have done, but I do understand that they're losing something they like about the game.

Thing is, 1.3 is flexible enough to give them something very close to hovering without the bug being present.  The alternative should be just as fun to those who don't see it as a cheesy tactic.  That is, you'll get all the maneuvering fun without the escape to the sky crap...  Toss in all the other goodies and 1.3 is SO much better than 1.2!

:P

You know, I knew this would be a biggie, and am glad to see it winding down, but I really thought the 'enhanced' AI and Base D would be much more devastating to 'Vet Play'.    I've yet to hear anyone making as big a deal about those topics as hovering.  I think it's a silly thing to be stuck on....

Av part of that statement was slightly tongue in cheek , however I don't particularly relish being branded a noob , I played this game online for nearly 2 yrs before the proliferation of lame tactics robbed me of any enjoyment .

I guess we all have our axes to grind , Vets say they have been robbed of their game by so called noobs , I call that karma .

A LOT of vets will be used to having an advantage in 1.2 against
newer players ... mwf.

Mwf 1 gives advantage over all others.
Mwf 2 gives advantage over mwf4 and above.
Mwf 4 gives advantage over default mwf10.

The advantage is in visual warp and apparent gun hits
according to my tests.

1.3 appears to warp a lot more than 1.2 because most hosts are
using mwf5 or 6 or above (in my short 1.3 experience).
I have played one game 2v2 in 1.3 where the host chose mwf2 and
warp was significanly less than in all other 1.3 games played.
Title: Serving Notice...
Post by: PhoeniX-FlamE on March 04, 2004, 09:52:56 PM
i accutly find more warp in mwf 2 and 1

mwf4 was declread to be best if all on it...

i think some servers should try 10 though... cause before any1 knew about mwf it wasnt such a big issue... and since 10 is default for strats it was proabably the best...
although 4 was declread the best if every1 uses it...

if i got it right when the host chooses the mwf it choose it for every1..
and i dont think i need to tell you how games with every1 on mwf 1 and 2 looks like

I dont reommend using mwf of 10 since ai warping is rediculous at that setting.  It has been for me anyways.
Title: Serving Notice...
Post by: PhoeniX-FlamE on March 04, 2004, 10:22:39 PM
im sure that before u knew what mwf is you were on 10 and it was preaty fine..
ai warps in every mwf at 1.3
even scavs warps...
and i remember back then no1 complained about warps - no one knew what mwf is and how to change it
and the default in strats is 10

we should give it a try after somehow the warp of AI in overall and bascily warps overall - not just AI or because of the mwf problems will be fixed
hopefuly beta 2
Title: Serving Notice...
Post by: Commando on March 04, 2004, 10:28:13 PM
The ai warps more now because they are affected by the same smoothening code that affects human-piloted ships.  That is why 1.3 ai ships warp more than they did in 1.2 at lower mwf values.
Title: Serving Notice...
Post by: PhoeniX-FlamE on March 04, 2004, 10:33:13 PM
shouldnt this be fixed though?
Title: Serving Notice...
Post by: Commando on March 05, 2004, 01:11:41 AM
Possibly.  I can't tell if the ai being affected by the smoothening code actually helped reduce ai warping or made it worse.  I think it may have made it worse, but there is no easy test because the ai is affected by the same smoothening code as human ships.  If ai ships were affected by another smoothening code varialbe, that would be nice so the value could be lowered or raised, depending on what helps more.

I don't think it is a good idea to bring the whole discussion up again, it just looked like the discussion was taking another turn instead of just 2 sides yelling at each other, it has been so overdone, it should end now, please don't take it as a personal attack, I don't meen to attack you, but I guess the hope I had that this could end is based on nothing.

If someone really wishes to stop this ridiculous discussion don't reply on such posts! It is the only way, if you give hate you will receive hate, so if we all just stopped complaining about the other there would be no problem whatsoever, if you won't play 1.3 there is no reason to flame and insult everybody else and start spamming just to say that, and if you can't stand such things ignore them altogether, I think the board moderators will do a job good enough at removing all of those ingrate posts. If you really want to say something and you don't know a creative way and many ppl seem to share your view start a poll like I suggested before, it will keep the rest of the site clean and might be of some use (maybe unaspected, maybe unseen). Just spamming everybody and get angry (last thing couts for both "sides") because of what seems to me as nothing (why do you have to get angry about yourself not going to play 1.3, and what would you care about others saying that?) to talk about. This discussion has been done far to much and it is time to stop it.

This post was not ment to spam, flame or insult anybody so I hope I didn't do so (and it sin't meant as a personal attack on tank at all). I also hope I made myself clear as I know my Enmglish isn't so good and I also know I can't make myself clear very often in any language.

EDIT: Is it better now? Everything I wanted to say is still in it.

BTW: I can understamd tank completely, I might have said something like it if I wasn't so tired of this whole arguing, it seems so completely childish and it leads only to bad things (hate, splitted comunity and that kind of things). Yes I don't know tank that's true but it's not about him, it's about the general behaviour that almost everybody is showing, sorry tank.

You know, however much it might cause me actual physical pain to agree with Mower on anything (j/k Mower, peace mate), the bit about respectfully expressing an opinion pretty much sums up what this thread is all about. It's not the dissenting opinions that is the problem - that's one of those special things that makes us as humans (and BZ2 players) seperate and distinct from, well, sheep (and Quake players).

The key word here is respect. And I don't mean the kind of respect that you are required to show your boss - I mean the kind of respect that is warranted by the sheer sweat and tears that goes into making things like 1.3 happen. Similar in fact to the kind of respect that should be shown by default to the guys whose creative genius have kept us all rapt for near on 5 years while other games fall by the wayside.

1.3 might be free to all of us, but I KNOW it cost Nathan and Ken and the guys on the dev/beta team a helluva lot more than that. If that isn't reason enough to be courteous and constructive rather than spout mindless abuse then go play Quake.

PS Huscar, don't worry mate, your posts offend nobody who isn't already groping around for reasons to be offended.

Quoteand if one respectfully expresses an opinion around here that does no coincide with some of the individualy on the development team, it shouldn't be greeted sanctioned insults and barbs

This part of MM's post is well put - the respect should be shown on both sides. Hopefully some decent compromise can be made if this is achieved.
Flaming peoiple of different views ain't going to help.

I'm 38, very mature adult who likes BZ2 alot.  I never post but read alot.
I re-activated my account to say this.
Children, granted our society does not encourage respectfull behavior, you should still try to have some for the incredible developers here.  So stop acting like brats, grow up.

Moderator, I am a user at 3000ad.com and a fan of the Battlecruiser series, Derek Smart would of never never tolerated these kiddies.  You are forgiving enough to serve them notice though, that is nice.

Battlezone 2 is too incredible of a game for any slander on these boards.  I suggest anyone doing so take a long look in the mirror, a really long look.

My 2 cents,
Al.

You know, I knew this [hovering] would be a biggie, and am glad to see it winding down, but I really thought the 'enhanced' AI and Base D would be much more devastating to 'Vet Play'. I've yet to hear anyone making as big a deal about those topics as hovering. I think it's a silly thing to be stuck on....

Was gonna let this pass - but it speaks volumes don't you reckon?

Absolutely correct Slaor....Just remember, respect is a two way street...If we(the players) had been given a modicum of repect, than much of these debates, discussions discertaitions etc would have never ben necessary.

But the point is, Treat everyone, players, posters and Devs alike...and we'd all be a hell of alot further along.

I think you will find that the ai is a balance issue that hasnt been encroached upon , it does affect strat games though commanders can just load human wings with counters against ai ships,

we tried mass attacks from ai apc's the other night and it just turned into a roadkill (re running over apc commandos)

Bomber was fast but the bomb was easy to shoot.

AI sp sabres are a pain but they dont dodge mits that well or change to laser when u drop mcurtain.

Rckt tanks vir red field or mcurtain again
Mass mortar bikes can be trouble though more down to that warp problem

Well said, spaceavenger.  This is a private board, so I don't understand why these people who insult the developers are tolerated.

They may be some of the best BZ players in the world for all I care.  Having gaming skill - and the overinflated ego that sometimes accompanies it - does not give them a license to be irresponsible and disrespectful.

I say ban 'em/kick 'em and let 'em crap on their own carpets until they grow up and learn some respect.

FE, I'd respectfully argue that spending a few years of your own time fixing bugs in a 4+ year old, unsupported game is displaying slightly more than a modicum of respect and regard towards the players. Maybe I'm just old fashioned ;)

There's a whole buncha metaphors about horses that I could launch into here.

No matter how my personal opinions and ideologies might differ from those of Nathan (and they do ;)) my hat is well and truly and permanently off to the man. What he has given us here is priceless, not only in personal effort but in potential for the future of what is doubtless the BEST GAME IN THE WORLD. If, as a result I have to wear his judgement calls then bring it on, I'm a sixe XL.

Do BZ players deserve respect?  No.

What have we done to deserve respect?  Nothing.

We take advantage of the developers' donated time and effort and use it to feed ourselves, like parasites.

Do we stay up late and work weekends laboring through code looking for bugs until bleary-eyed? No.

Do we constantly suffer from insults about our donated work?  No.

Do we make difficult revisions to code late at night to add new features?  No.

Do we enjoy the fruits of their labor while he sweats?  Yes.

Do some hurl ignorant insults at him in spite of his efforts to make it better so you will gain more enjoyment from it?  Yes.

So tell me, what have we done that warrants respect?  Nothing.

What have Nathan and the rest of the developers done to earn respect.   Everything.

Do they get it?  No.

I don't blame Nathan for leaving one bit.  I truly hope he stays as far away from here as possible so that he isn't subjected to the moronic bleatings and insults of the ingrates any longer.

It only takes a few bad apples to spoil the barrel - and spoiled it has become.

@PF: wouldn't you ignore someone who just sais: "this sucks", "it's crap", "not worth to play" about something you like a lot, even if you didn't make it yourself? The answer is quite logic, no. But what would it lead to? ppl see you pissed of and continue posting their crap. What if nobody would care and not reply to such things? They would finally stop posting and be themselves very frustrated because they aren't heard, and then those things would be even more useless than before and it would be right to delete them. Of course it isn't nice to be ignored so that's why the poll, to calm down ppl and maibe get a clue of what the situation is, it usually works. Now tell me what is so offensive about this?

@Slaor: Yes I read what you posted but this is something I want to have set straight.
