This has been tweaked with the 1.3 patch and it has become an impossible mission to complete! You have tank, scout and turret. You hold tight and take the first 2 wave of attacks then you start to take your recycler and transporter over the ice to nav point. On the way FIVE Warriors attack you and surprise, surprise you are totally obliterated and mission fails!!!! What chance do you have with 1 tank, 1 turret, and 1 scout to all that?? Has anyone completed it and if so what is the secret??
I think there was some action taken to try and stop that fire warrior rush might not have work.
You have to cover your tracks just like your wingman survivor recommended (the one with that Brit/Aussie accent). If you do that, you won't get bothered while getting your Rec across the ice... maybe 2-3 enemy units, but that should be it. Once you deploy Rec, take the nearest 3 pools and build turrets (and scavs for loose scrap). This is on Hard skill for singleplayer (as enabled in the options menu).
This was the first really brutal mission I came across when it was in private. I think I had just enough time to get the 3 pools and build a couple rats before "the real rush" came. IIRC there was something like 2-3 Warriors, 2-3 Lancers and a Sentry or 2 that give you a good work over. Getting the first GT up is kind of a challange but once you do things get better. Oh yeah, you think this mission is hard, wait until you get to "Payback" ;)
Another way to make "On Thin Ice" a little easier is to snipe some of the units as they start grouping for the waves after you deploy your Rec. Snipe very quickly!
Shhh, don't tell this to anybody. :D
I'm refering to the attack whilst you are taking your recycler across the ice, I am half way to reaching the nav point when 5 warriors attack me and with myself (tank) 1 turret and 1 scout you have no chance!
Do you use the satchel charge to destroy the dropship? If not that might be your problem. I've only ever seen 1 warrior and 1 sentry at that part of the mission.
Yes,make sure you blow up the dropship right away with satchel charge (c button),then you should only get 1 warrior and 1 sentry on the way to nav. Then watch out! I think you'll get about 3 warriors and a lancer or 2 as soon as your rec deploys.
Yep, that's what I meant by covering your tracks. Listen to your wingman. He says it's better to destroy the downed dropship. So stick that satchel somewhere near the hull of the dropship and move away. You shouldn't see too many Scions alerted to your persons as you go through the thin ice. Use the ice rhino's to clear the ice or change to blue vector radar view. You'll see the path very clearly on that radar without even having to break the ice. Am I saying too much? :D
Well this mission is definitly on overdrive. I just get my recycler planted and I get a rush of warriors, sentrys, and lancers. Just ridiculous numbers of units.
It's harder than it ever was just getting the recycler to the drop off point.
Idle Dispatcher on steroids again?
Yeah, something like that. What I'm seeing would be ridiculous for a "hard" setting, and I using the default "medium" setting..
On Thin Ice Mission 11 heres what I did to get past when the hords of enemy come after Recycler is deployed. If when they start coming you can hop out and get a Lancer it will make the rest pretty much easy.
Remember to SAVE your game after the recycler deployes.
No one unit would possibly make a difference in what I'm seeing. This mission always had hordes of units, but they are coming in before you can even get a gun tower up. I'm talking like 20 units or so (5 warriors or so spraying plasma), as soon as you can get your first scav deployed. It's just plain silly. I know the mission is not supposed to be like this.
has anyone checked to see if some units where left after a map edit?
Well here is exactly what I did.
Once the recycler reached the "Drop Point" nav I told it to deploy. Then I raced over to where the "Third" scrap pool is. Theres a turret garding it. well just back from that aera there should be a couple of Sentries and a Warrior. I sniped the Warrior, then roared over in my tank and force hopped in to empty warrior. The two sentries sould not be much of a problem once you get in the warrior. Some time in here tell the recy to produce a scav and tell it is scavenge.
As soon as a get the warrior I will tell the recy to produce the second scavenger. And as a cruise back in my stolen biometal I'll tell scav #2 to deploy on the scrap pool. Then I will produce a third scav and then tell it go to the next pool.
About this time you'll get a message saying that the dropships have sighted the landing zone. You should have enough scrap to produce a turret by this time. The enemy forces should be popping up on radar about now. When I did it I would get about 4 warriors, 3 scouts, 3 sentries, and 1 or two lancers.
Not very encouraging when all you have Is a scout two turrents and your self in a warrior. What I did was snipe a lancer then I beat it back to my warrior. Pick off the scouts first they do as much damage as the warriors and they go faster. I then fought until I hit 25% health where I changed to the sniped lancer and used it to clean up the rest of the attack force.
Remember again to save the game once the recy in almost to the drop point nav. Saves having lead the dumbo through the ice over and over again.
At the moment it seems that 'spare' units which are lurking
on a mission map are sent to attack stuff right at the
start of the mission.
This means that sometime near the mission beginning you are swamped
with enemy units. It makes not much difference for most missions
because they don't have a lot of units already waiting, but for
thin-ice and crystals? it is a bad effect of 1.3
In 1.2 those starting units were controlled correctly by mission Dll
and appeared at the right times.
I expect this bug will be fixed sometime in the future, but for now
I play thin-ice on easy or medium.
I get the first turret up on the pod-spawn, pump pods and fight the
evil hordes in my tank, not scout since it is usually dead by then.
When I get a chance I make 3 or 4 more turrets round the corner
and spread out from the rec. When the first rushes are over the
rest of the mission is a relaxed anticlimax.
Was i one of the few ones who
A) did not spend ages guiding the rec...cause i just blew up all the ice with charges from my pack
B) had a second 'rear' pool way back in the opposite direction of where the rec was going (relative to the ice...well...where the ice *was*)
I played this mission again, but this time with the public beta version and on Hard level. I got tons of ships coming at me after I built some turrets, but nothing really about overkill. I did snipe and mortar 3-4 ships waiting for their first wave assault, so maybe that helped. Eventually I got all 8 pools (just cuz I'm greedy) and won the game at Dust Off. Maybe your builds are messed up to make the Idle Dispatcher too mean.
I played this mission a few times - under 1.0, 1.2 and 1.3. Playing 1.3 in Medium difficulty didn't seem to trouble me as I was guiding the rec across the ice. I was attacked by the odd warrior and a few pairs of sentries, nothing too serious, just told the turret to hold as soon as I saw enemies on radar, used myself as bait to lure them close to the turret. After deploying the rec, I did get rushes as described earlier, I couldn't manage so I did a bzfree and threw up 5 GTs.
I was always wondering what that starting scout was suggesting about the drop ship being a dead give away.....haha I never did anything about it, just drove off in my tank. Had not a clue as to why the heck I had a satchel charge
Well, I can probably change the "timing" of the mission. Like all the other SP missions, I played this one something over 50 times. I don't have to blow any ice to guide the recycler over the ice. First time I tried it in 1.3, I almost made some headway, but the last time it was just impossible for even "hard" setting. I'm sure others are not seeing what I'm seeing, so "playing tips" are hardly necessary. I may have to start the mission over.
On a related note (I surmise), on the prior mission "Snow Blind", I was getting a constant supply of Warriors attacking my base, at a rate they have never come in the past. They weren't too hard to deal with, execpt that when the tunnel collapsed, they kept coming and were just getting stuck on the side of the hill. Probably had 50 Warriors or so trying to get over the hill.
On Snow Blind, I stuck turrets and gt's at the choke point, i.e. the tunnel (plenty of green build squares at the entrance). That kept them at bay, while I took the rest of the pools on my side of the tunnel. Every type of Scion unit came through (even Titans I think). I had a couple of trt's for archers. I guess I'll have to test that one again, but on 1.3pb. I've tested all s/p in earlier 1.3 builds.
As for On Thin Ice, I suppose if you or anyone gets the overkill again, a screenshot of the attack numbers would be best so we can all compare notes.
Also, I just played Counterattack on 1.3pb. I've always liked this mission, as it's fun to scurry around at the beginning trying to establish order (and power). Keeping 4 pools up is the best thing if you want to build higher in the isdf techtree, since you don't get a Recycler.
I wish there were some MP maps where neither team has a rec, just two forts with two or 3 service trucks, a square of 4 upgraded pools, a ring of walls, and a factory... + a few prayers.
I had no problem with the warriors on Snow Blind, I was just saying that once the tunnel colapsed, they were just building up on the side of the hill (like 50 of them).
nope at hemp
i lured the big ice rhino to break the ice for me... and the 1st time i played i just pushed the rec over the hills :D
"1.3 Thin Ice"
I just tried it three times on Medium. The first time I tried for a GT in base and was swarmed before I could get it up. The second time I pulled a few more tricks and got a GT up, but by then the swarm took down the PS and I was toast. The third time was the charm...
Blow the Transport before the Scout even starts talking and head straight for the Recy. Send the turret to the Nav then guide the Recy through the ice any way you want. The Turret will at the very least severely damage the Warrior/Sentry coming at you first.
As you approach the Nav tell the Recy to overshoot it to where you want to deploy. I chose right next to the near Pool. It'll play the voiceover and change your Orders as the Recy cruises up to the deploy point. Deploy it and make three Scavs. First goes to near pool, second picks up loose scrap, third goes to far pool. (don't argue 'order' here, do it any way you like). Send the Transport back to the icicles by the Nav.
Crank out Turrets. Nothing but Turrets. Ring the Recy with them, heavy towards the next pool. I had eight before the swarm hit. Took them out nicely with me distracting/tossing mortors. A few pods don't hurt. After that you have tons of scrap, especially once you take the third pool as there's two spawning Guardians that keep throwing themselves at your Defenses. Grab the back pool and you're ridiculously set to take down everything on the map IF you want to. I rolled into the AI base with a ton of TRT's and had a whole army follow the Transport to the dust off point.
As someone said, once the swarm is handled it's pretty dull.
-Av-
Well, I don't understand how many units a "swarm" would consist of and I don't comprehend where everyone is having a hard time on this. I played this once on Hard (1.3pb), killed the down dropship and headed straight for the Rec. When I was going through the ice, I was intercepted by 1 warrior and 2 sentries. My turret helped, until it got blown up. He was in the middle of the ice field. I killed the rest of them. As I deployed my Rec, I got 3 scavs up (2 for pools and one to suck up the loose) and then built 4-5 turrets, all in a defensive fenceline. The 1st swarm came and from my count (I was too busy helping out, hehe) it was probably 7 or so units (drones, sentries, warriors and lancers). Before that, I mortared 2-3 units, which I said before. From there I built my first GT at the choke point (between the 2 hills). After that, I built 2 more GT's at the same place and they didn't stand a chance after that. From there, it's anticlimatic as said. You can take all 8 pools if ya like. What I haven't done, is not kill the downed dropship. I don't think I'd want to see what happens, hehe.
The way missions will play out in BZ2 is almost random. Like I said, I could probably start the mission over and change the "timing". The last time I tried is was just ridiculous how many units came in as soon as I got my recycler planted, It would be discouraging to someone just playing BZ2 for the first time.
Sometimes that's a 'feature', and sometimes it's a 'bug'... Either way it's part of BZ's charm and is a carryover from BZ1.
:)
LOL Mower, I still love being turret-rushed in "ThoIWalk". Turns me purple every time...
-Av-
Well, since it's a fun mission, I guess it can't hurt to try it again several more times until I either see this random pattern or my eyes bleed. :D
I selected "easy"
(BTW, I did not notice the mission description stating we had to deploy the recycler, I thought we had to escort it to a dust off site for a pick up not build a base)
Either way (deploy or not) very soon after getting the recycler to the nav beyond the ice I was attacked by several warriors (about 3?), one or two lancers, and someother ships (sentries?scouts?).
It's hard to count when there's a swarm of enemy ships  and the mission is over before I can swear :x .
Theres clearly something to fix about that mission's difficutly.
Oh, and dont listen to the recycler driver when he's saying he can reach the nav on his own  (ice patches destroyed), he has managed to drive and fall in the water ending the mission... :x
Snow Blind, on medium difficulty was very difficult IMO, but on easy it was ok (also because I knew what was going to happen and prepared from the get go, but had it been the first time I had been on that mission it would still have been too hard for an 'easy' setting)
{for Thin Ice, since there's no way I cant fight all those ships rushing the recycler, I went directly to their base instead of going to the recycler, they dont attack until you at least reach the recycler. So with the sabre, sniper rifle, satchel charge and patience I managed to destroy the entire Scion base and all ships in it :D . I'll reaload from there and go to my recycler to help it navigate throught the ice. This time I hope there's not much ships in the rush...}
I have done that before as well ICE, they still are spawned by the dll I believe, at least some of them, not near all...
I selected "easy" but I still get the swarm, it's a pity you can't deploy elsewhere, get a few units up and then undeploy, yes I am having difficulty with this mission as well but I see a few have got past it on here.
Then again this was always a strange mission (Remember when you finished it and you still couldn't get past the mission unless you killed all the Ice Rhinos?) aned as this is a beta I suspected this particular mision would have it's problems :s
Correction I had it on "meduim" now I have selcted easy lets see if it solves the problem
Bloody hell that's taking the piss isn't it? I mangaged to get the Recycler depolyed then got a massive Scion Rush, 5 Warriors, 1 Lancer 1 sentry
it was OK for a while but as soon as the the cut scene ended and my wingman and me took care of the second pair of a Warrior and Sentry All hell breaks loose????!??!!!!! What's going on???????!!!!!!!!!!?????????
read the other topic... if ive done it easily on hard u can as well....
deploy the rat on the pod bay
problem solved
Yeah right Phoneix , if it don't work I wil get back to ya got it? by the way how do you protect the transport hmmmmmmmm Phoenix
Yeah I thought so what you were saying was lies or pure fiction Phonenix seeing as least 1 Lancer and at least 5 warroirs plus 2 Sentries come and attack my little squad but I thought I would give you the benefit of the doubt seeing as your such a "vet" and all.
Although I have a theory, Hard might be easy and the easy setting might actually be the Hard setting I will try it on Hard.
DVE - I did that mission very easily on Hard last week. Don't start accusing PF of giving false info mate. It's just a matter of setting up turrets, sticking one on the pod bay, and trying to distract the AI units so that they fire at you rather than the turret/transport. Then you can just dodge around.
The main difficulty of this mission, IMO, is the fact that it's so hard to set up a base due to that pool just outside your rec.
Just did that Dark Fox and Still lost the transport and Recycler I tried that at least half a dozen times.
Quote from: Der Vampyr EngelJust did that Dark Fox and Still ost the transport and Recycler I tried that at least half a dozen times.
The problem might be with your distracting. Are nearly all of the enemy units trying to shoot you while your turret lays into them? The best way to get their attention is to shoot each enemy unit with one small burst each BEFORE your turret shoots them (otherwise your turret will have that units attention). Then it's just a matter of you staying on the move but not moving too far away so that the turret has no targets.
Well that might be it, I know shoot each one so they run after me that what you mean Gummo?
after awhiel they seem to leave you... mortar all of em for maxium dmg.. anyways after u deploy the rec do this:
put the transport behind the rec - near the small door...
deploy the rat on the pods bay... 1st scav scange 2nd - pool
if they kill the scav build another one - all the ships loose should give u quite alot of scrap to build 2 / 3 more turrets
spread them around to cover everything nicely... (leave the 1st one on pods bay and if i remmeber right u have some hills to put the turrets a lil behind so when the enemy ships gets clsoe all will shoot 2ghater...)
after the 1st 2 waves i think its np... get a scav to the back - and start building gts in the 3ed pool (4th if u consider the one in the back)
after 1st gt there u basicly won
and ya - i couldnt build bay because of no room by that damn pool
damn I did that , the transport is at the back but get's destroyed listen I wil try this again, must be a way to get past this damn mission.
DVE - Just a note: The reason I said deploy far from the pool has nothing do do with surviving the first rush. I advised this because the base-building gets very difficult around that pool (wierd BZ2 ground height bug, where the ground looks green, but you can't build on it).
I've built near that base pool without any problems. Basically, I deployed the Rec close to the ice field (the one you crossed over with yer Rec). I told the transport to stay somewhere on the river behind the hill where the Rec is. Just keep an eye on it. Then, you can build around the base pool, extending it with powergens, so that you can build the service bay on the otherside of that pool. Getting 3 pools up quickly, as well as gathering the scrap, will help you crank out 3-4 turrets at this early stage.

Hell, it's always interesting to note the knee-jerk n00b statements around here. You *Ammo*ing tosser.
From tigger
QuoteHell, it's always interesting to note the knee-jerk n00b statements around here. You *Ammo*ing tosser [/quote]
Thank you tigger for now really lowering the tone, you *Ammo*ing wanker, tell you what don't get involved jackass if you are gonna start with the bad language, by the way how comes a little jerk like you alway's manages to lower the tone huh?
Still you make this a flame I request locking this thread Now go and shove your stupid offensive head up your arse
How about the both of you shut the hell up before I ban both your asses.
As for the mission, I never had any issues keeping the attackers at bay. Seems too easy some times when I am doing it.
Is it rag-week tigger? *chuckle*
Maybe I'm playing the wrong version (1.2 I think), but I have a completely different problem. I can't complete the game because I can't find Cdr Shebeyev. I managed to get the rec & transport to the dust-off point (without setting up the rec), then I went back and destroyed the scion base, sniped all the units, the only scions left are two guardians and two sentries who continually spawn when destroyed.
I get a radio message that says I found Cdr Shebeyev's crashed drop ship but she's not there and she must be around somewhere. Now, I have driven all over the map looking for Shebeyev. I left the tank near the drop nav and walked underwater in the big lake hunting for Shebeyev. Am I missing something (probably obvious)?? Is this a bug fixed in 1.3?? :?
You should read your mission objectives more throughly. You are ment to get the transport to the drop off point. That is your primary objective along with defending the rec. Anything else is secondary.
jwk... thats not his problem.. at least i didnt understand your post...
its not *reading* its *listening*
after u get to the dust off DEPLOY the rec, build a base then u should get the transport to the dust off... deploying the rec is one of the trigger for next event because when u deploy the rec u get attacked by a swarm of scions... then u need to clear the 2nd nav (kill / snipe the gurdiens there) and then get the transport there
After reading this thread I tried this mission in 1.3 and the first time I got surprised. I had already 4 turrets (2 on rec and 2 on the 2nd pool) and bay up when suddenly a huge armada attacked and made hash of my base. The next time I was prepared, deployed all turrets around rec, and I had no problem to deal with the attackers although they seemed to attack earlier this time. Of course baiting the attackers one by one and then running from them and taking cover behind bulidings or rhinos helps a lot to save your turrets and your rec. After the first wave you have enough scrap to build towers. The rest is like 1.2.
So I gather that doing things in the right order is crucial to this scenario. I had already built the base at the dust-off point, however, the scions were already destroyed. Ill try going back and building the base at the drop point when I reach it. I also noticed everyone else talking about a turret. I start this scenario with only a tank and a scout. Did I miss something else? Thanks for the responses.
You get a turret when you are given command of the Recyler.
Bull Dog
Well since having to deal with the Scion rush I ahve had varying degrees of success, I have taken care of most of the attackers with 2 turrets and a scout up but I either lose my ship or have to recyle one of the turrets and when I try to restart from save as soon as I get to the cut scene and press the spacebar to cut the AVI they are have already destroyed my tank or in the process, I have worked out the the only way to get the turret deplyed is ti use a nav beacon and place it right on the Rec's bay and tell the turret to deploy at the nav beacon, then send the dropship away from the Drop Piont and also start crankng out scavs and turrets
I did manage to complete the level, setting up the rec near the drop point is crucial as I tried several different locations all failing. I also noticed that saving and restarting after reaching the drop point NEVER works. The waves of scions start immediately and I could not get more than 1 scav and 1 turret built before the first wave. I tried saving and restarting when the rec is at the last leg of the trek prior to reaching the drop nav and I was able to beat them consistantly (three times). The key for me was to build 1 scav and get it to the biometal pool, then crank out 4 turrets before the next scav and the first wave hit as the second scav was being built. I always have the scout protect the transport and put them behind the rec. Four turrets and me could easily defeat the first wave, then get the second scav to the next pool and get four more turrets set up and start the third scav. At this point the turrets pretty much take care of the waves. I just paid attention to thier dammage and sent them to get repairs one at a time. From here I built the fourth scav and sent it to the third pool, built a constructor, four more turrets and got the rest of the base set up. Once I had three gun towers I could easily leave and destroy the scions and clear the dust-off point. I found that an assault tank works better than mortar on the guardians, but since it is slow I suggest taking at least three tanks as back up. This turned out to be more fun than I thought as I was previously getting bored with it. I'll be doing this one again a few more times.
all sounds nice and moo but do u have any idea how much a scrap pieace gives you?
doesnt seem so....
I remember this mission. It took me several tries to get it right. This is an excellant SP mission. This stuff sounds about the same as 1.2, the Scions could be a pain there as well.
"The key for me was to build 1 scav and get it to the biometal pool, then crank out 4 turrets before the next scav", says Gamenut.
Only with game.cheat bzfree ON is this possible.
Rooster I think he meant he *gradually* cranked out 4 turrets with whatever scrap he was able to pick up.
1 scav ... to pool.
So nothing to pick up scrap with,
hence
Time to get scav onto pool +
10 seconds pool warmup before extraction +
20 seconds for 20 scrap + 60 seconds for next 20 green scrap,
= First turret.
Well then........
*C*H*E*A*T*E*R*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I thought that was the problem gamenut420, once you save it you will get a few variations then the Scion Charge comes in way too fast.
The thing is it only took me a few goes to do it in 1.2 although the first time I played 1.2 it was a copmplete shock but what I did was not to set up any scavs on the pool nearer the hill . I set up the scav's on the pool way at the back and on the biometal pool near the Drop point , then crank oput turrets and place them in a haphazard manner so any charges from the Scions would end up in complete confusion.
I would say though, it would be quite a good tatic say that the Scions let you build up your base, giving you a false sense of security, only sending in a few Sentries, Scouts and Warriors just to probe your defenses, so the player gets a false sense of Security, then Suddenly start sending in squads on Titans and Maulers to attack your main guns while sending in the smaller hover units to cause havoc in the player's base, not only that, the player gets attacks onto their base where the player hasn't bothered to reinforce so that the player's base suddenly comes under intense attack from the Scion's base.
This forces the player eventually to attack the Scion base, the Scion Base would be very heavily fortified with Spire Guns and Turrets, not to mention the Scion Unit's strategically placed in the base, especially the Heavy Units so it would be that much tougher to take the base instaed of just taking the base in a tank rush.
What do other's think? problalby inviting some flames from people but since this is a beta well I might as well suggest it
Sounds like FE :D
i played FE JTHM but I more like the way the Uler Mod was done, it's hard but fair.
I can handle the missions in that, not all of them but quite few of them and although hard I love the way you get enough units to handle the problem and I also love the way the enemy units come in thick and fast, they attack your big guns and units that can stop them from getting into your base and I like that, it tests how good a base builder/commander you are and how good you are at cranking out service trucks and haviong them and your guns defended., after all, that is what a well armed and determined enemy would do they would try to destroy your big guns so that they can get at your units.
I understand the thing about sending in lots of Scions if your stupid enough to set a Drop Point very near to their Base!!!! I am suprised you don't get a real rush out of the base, every unit just comes out at flattens you, your recycler, your turret ,your scout, everything and I am supriesd they haven't set up quite a lot of turrets there in the first place. That is why I would prefer it if you could deploy your recycler somewhere else, set up your base then crank out some units undeploy the recycler and then go to the Drop Point if you must.
Also if you do got to the Drop and manage to set up a base then the Scions attacks on your base should be extremely intense as you are near their base!!!!!!!!!Depending on who is their commander they might lull you into a false security or they might simply start attacking you with large numbers instantly when they see a considerable force move into that area near their base.
Still I thought that might be a way to go rather than just attack you in the way it is one now, it still would be quite a challenge as your base would be subjected to quite heavy attacks, I am trying to get into the DLL script via DLL Scripter so I could change it and test out to see if that approach would work. That is what I thought was wrong in BZ1 when you play the CCA Mission on Titan and you have to destroy the Black Dog Walker, 2 Longbow Units, and a turret. It starts of great, you get the bombers attacking your Recycler, you even get the occasional tanks attacking the base but then all you get is the predictable attack of 3 light tanks and a scout , all incoming from one place rather than attacks coming in from different places,
Still just a thought that would be nice to see that, more heavy attacks on your base's so that your forced to build good heavy defences more often,
In my mod, when it get' finshed (I will need a programmer for mulitplayer) thenat would be what I would be striving for.
I had instances where I was getting attacked by like 20 Scions as soon as I deployed my recycler. I just replayed from my save game, and I got an attack force that was much more managable. Yes, building turrets is the key (you must "decoy for the turrets too, use mortars to attract a lot of the enemy, as they will always attack their attacker), but BZ2 is very unpredictable, and you can play from the same savegame, and he attacks will come in slightly varied. Some of the charm of BZ2.
Once you survive the first attack wave, you can get GT's up pretty fast, as scap becomes plentifly.
If you build some GT's by the crash site (as close as you can to the ridge), they will destroy the guardians that spawn and deploy in the path to the pick-up point.
I deploy my rec right next the the pool cclosest to the crash site. You can stash the transport in the pocket in the hills right there, and it will be pretty safe.
In response to Dirty Rooster and Aegeis:
I like to finish the game properly before cheating. I will run it again this weekend, I may have mistaken the number of turrets as I ran this on Sunday night and posted on Wednesday. I am running 1.2, I don't know if the scrap collection time from the pools is different than 1.3. I am not real confident about "beta" patches although this one seems to be well proven. I plan on trying 1.3 after I complete the game in 1.2 (I hate the fact that I cannot just install it over 1.2, personal issue).
I'll post results as soon as I finish, cheated results are pretty useless.
Yes Mowerman that happens with me as well, as soon as I depoly the Rec I ususally lose my ship even if I cut the AVI of the Dropship and even if I get a way from them there are at least that amount of Scions about, even if I snipe a couple they still manage to attack my Rec, as a matter of fact that triggers them to attack because they stop and then after I snipe a few then thet simply attack the REC
Quote from: DarkFoxDVE - Just a note: The reason I said deploy far from the pool has nothing do do with surviving the first rush. I advised this because the base-building gets very difficult around that pool
A simple way to fix that is to deploy the recycler adjacent to the pool, the game will not allow you to build near the pool if the rec isnt adjacent because the pool is lower in the ground then the rest of the area, and is locked at that height because of the pool. Basically you cant build near it because the rec and pool are at different heights and the constructor will try to build at the same height the rec is on, this doesnt work near the pool because as i said before it is lower in the ground than the rest of the area and locked at that height. If you deploy the rec adjacent to the pool however you can build near it because the rec and pool are at the same height. And since the terrain near the ice is already separrated from the base area because it is too rough, you wont have to worry about the same thing happening near the ice. This will give you plenty of room for a full base on this mission since the highest in the tech tree you can go is the armory. :-D
well, im not sure about this, but if it follows the normal aip plans for the most part, the comp should just send scavs out (and stuff accross ice) so you can move the recycler to anywhere you want, itll just be a bit harder to get back pools and first rush may be a bit bigger. But this doesnt always work that well...as apc knows  (im so happy im about to throw up)
The rush seemed the same to me when i deployed the recycler adjacent to the pool I even fought them all off with just four turrets and myself as a distraction, didn't lose a single unit in the process either.
I ran the scenario again yesterday. There was NO WAY I could get the four turrets with one scav as previously stated. DIRTY ROOSTER called me on it and I was incorrect. I started this about five seperate times, and the only way I could get four turrets was to build two scavs, take care of the two scouts myself, and I could have four turrets when the first attack wave hits. I also rush to the hill that has two sentries and a warrior hiding behind, take out the sentries with mortar, then snipe and steal the warrior. This helps with the scouts since the warriors lasers (second weapon) are more powerful and faster than the machine gun on the tank.
the "laser" warior has is ion gun amd the "machine gun" is minigun

I don't think so Spawn, I tried to deploy the Recycler far away from the Drop Point, but all I got was the green deploy point and the Recycler saying "Building" then the Recycler starts to spin on it's axis and then just say's "Yes Sir" on the radio, even near the boodly drop point it does this, and that also leads to the Scions swarming on my party because I still have to get the bloody, slow Rec to the damn Drop Point
lol, must be mainly dll controlled then
u gotta wait for a msg before u can deploy the rec...
:-) Yes, you can beat this level easily on hard. Check out my thread "ON THIN ICE" to see how I did it WITHOUT deploying my recycler! =P
ya, easily without deploying the recycler...
game.cheat bz****

Why Use the cheat command & ruin all the fun of trying to beat the campain. If you must cheat whats the sense of even bothering to play the campain if you don't decide to play by the rules.
Modders have to be able to 'cheat' to test the level andmake it work.
I also enjoy 'cheating' on a single player so that i can test out extreme things that i did not do when i played it properly.
I always play the game properly first...and then go though it a second tome...and on the 3rd time i usually say '' oo...i wonder whats behind that inmprenatrble door '
or... '' what happens if i line up a 100 mines ''
...you have to give the player the CHOICE to cheat, it is better for the greater good.
yo green i was refering to reno post saying he can beat it without deploying the rec or w/e...
