Title: (Medium Suggestion) More Weapon HP's
Post by: Radigator on May 02, 2004, 07:15:21 PM
I know I'm not even a cog in the BZ2 Community or say much here anymore but the 1.3 really surprised me in being so good and since (if I have this right) its still being worked on for other release's I wanted to know if it was possible to allow more Weapon Hard Points (more than 5) able to have 9 weapon hard points would be amazing for other mods coming out or updating previous mods.

Thats my only request if its possible plz if its not understandable and if your too lazy to do it I understand. 1.3beta was great and I feel that I'm already asking for to much from what has already been done.

Thanks to those who beta tested worked on it and did this with out being paid too I'm greatful that people still love BZ2 like you guys do.

One good thins about this community is that everyone has a say and opinion, as long as thayve made at least one post, theyre in. As for Weapon HardPoints, It sounds like a good idea. For me, around sevenwould be perfect, but going back to a more bz1 style hardpoint system. Instead of having two miniguns in a scout, you would have two gun hardpoints, to fill as you wished. I know this would use up more scrap when modfying your current ship's weapons, but I like it better that way.

And the people who worked on 1.3 from Pandemic Studios have left teh community, but Im sure your ideal will be used by modders, I'd do it but I'm not a modder.

i accutly prefer the bz2 system over the bz1 system.. because lets say i want sp stabber on 2nd hard point and picked flash cannon (bz1 weapons... might be wrong about weapon names) but i wanna change the flash cannon to hmmm mag

it will change the sp stabber then i have to drop a new sp to replace the flash....

it always annoyed me abit...

more hard points sounds alright.... but i realy think the current unit should have some ammount of hard points... making more hardpoints in maybe side for mods... i realy dont think its a good idea to change the current units 2 much...

How about if it would switch the weapon that wasnt selected?

sounds great!

to think about a scout shooting 1 side las + 1 chain

just got an idea for a mod... a key to select both weapons even though they are difrent... or just 1 by 1..

but i guess both ideas will fit better in a mod rather then 1.3...

i guess it will also cause some problems with blink

was just an idea that poped to my head - wasnt realy thinking about what will happen :P

I think there should be "blink damage" anyway...  After all, the blink does not obey the laws of any known physics, ergo...  it is a bug and a perversion!  It is a cheat!!!  One should sustain damage when used in any situation!!!

I think it fits BZ physics just fine, but it would be cool if they came out frosty cold and covered with ice...

Then we'd have to come up with a 'Beer Blinker'...

u do get dmg from blink.. both ways... when u run or if u charge some1 else with blink they get slight dmg and when u run u get some dmg from ground... not always though

I suggested that in FE. Infact i was really harsh about it....wanted a scion scout to get 30% damage when it got blink lol.

I think it would be nice to have a suicide scion bomber, that blinks to a place on the map, causing pretty good damage, in effect, destroying the bomber.

Edit: The bomber could only blink a certain distance, say, 700 meters or so.
Title: (Medium Suggestion) More Weapon HP's
Post by: APCs r evil on May 03, 2004, 10:01:35 PM
Like the Hadean Xerrakis? That would probably make a massive balance issue since there is basically no way to stop it if it has blink, even if it only had 700m blink range and would die once it had finished blinking.

At least that is what I think about the idea.

this really belongs in the mod and maps forum but.........if the unit only did damage to light and none armor classes, it could be an effective AI one on one unit destroyer. if it was accurate enough to blink ON another unit it could be a VERY effective PVP PKer.

heh, how is blink supposts to work anyway?  and you could have the unit do insane damages to sheilds...so scions would never use it near themselves...but they might around other scions...that would be a fun weapon

Quotethink it would be nice to have a suicide scion bomber, that blinks to a place on the map, causing pretty good damage, in effect, destroying the bomber.

Scions look on such weapons as immoral and wrong. Its also why they do not make 'sniper ships'.

Post by: DarkFox on May 04, 2004, 11:00:04 PM
But scions are fine spilling gas all over the enemy base eh hemp?
I think you misread them, they seem to go for 'function with minimal effort', and have the technology to act it out.
I think a sniping ship is right up the scion street - 'remove the essential component to disable the enemy ship'. Very much their style IMO.
Title: (Medium Suggestion) More Weapon HP's
Post by: Jwk the Hemp Monkey on May 04, 2004, 11:05:09 PM
Nah, its too imoral.

Gasing? you can move out of a Gas cloud. And the scions know it. It is also normally used for base *defence* (high ammo consumption limit's it to an archer )...a deterent, which if you insist on fighting will destroy your ship and you as well.
Title: (Medium Suggestion) More Weapon HP's
Post by: Spawn on May 04, 2004, 11:13:37 PM
also, blink is used a great deal as an escape device, not as much to attack.  and couldnt that be why the scions dont have a bomber?

Post by: Jwk the Hemp Monkey on May 05, 2004, 05:21:18 PM
If it was not for scion morality the other races simply would not have a chance. The scions would just make a huge totally self suficient tower that blinked extremely potent explosives from its highest point.

I have two questions, first is how is blink supposts to work exactly?  Second is how do we know that scions have so many morals, or if it just assumed cause they haven't made one of those towers to date, and wouldnt the cerebi make a tower like that?
Title: (Medium Suggestion) More Weapon HP's
Post by: Avatar on May 06, 2004, 12:47:28 AM
Given that TRO introduced "portal" technology, AND the fact that there was a wormhole generated by the technology on the Dark Planet, I'd say that Blink is just another application of the same 'move through another dimension' technique.

It could also be similar to "Andromeda", where things can't 'slipstream' without a living intelligence controlling the process.  That would explain why there aren't any blinking WASP missiles...

Personally I think "blink" should be similar to "hyperspace" in Asteroids, with a slight chance of blowing up on exit each time you use it.  :)

Maybe there's some Scion navigation technology embedded in Blink to avoid hypertransporting thru (and inside) solid matter.  :D

To answer your first question, I ASSUME Blink is a portable wormhole generator that creates the entry point wherever the ship using blink is and generates the end wherever the green laser pointer thingy is, after that step is complete the ship enters the wormhole and is instantly transported to the other end of the wormhole.

That's handled by BLINK being a line of sight weapon.  If you can't see through it you can't blink through it.

Sometimes it's the simple way that works the best...  :)

Having blink as a chargeup weapon would probably help balance it, but that idea of having it deposit you at a random location on the map is so sweet, so old-school. :)

@ Total_oblivion_omnis
I'm wondering whether *anyone* would bother even reading your posts if they knew that you were one of those scumbags that intentionally AV people's games, Omnis. Worryingly enough, though, I'm wondering whether anyone round here even cares.

I've got screenshots from the other night, and I saddens me to think that people like you are trying to help craft 1.3.

I remember before bz2 was out, they had info on all the weapons and units and such on the pandi site, they described blink as " instantly teleports you in the direction the user is looking @ a random distance, max distance being 100 meters"

But its not like that now...

And btw on the "charging of blink" yea that sounds like a pretty good idea acually, and they should make a visual of it too, like in unreal2004 with that super tank that fires that black hole beam..

For those that don’t know what that looks like, imagine where your aiming @ on the ground a sphere of energy forms then a beam of light from your ship fly’s too it, then BOOM.. But instead of boom you teleport..

Some other cool weapons on the site where.. Radar faker special, which the correct name I cant remember.. The description was, when a unit such as a walker uses this weapon it’ll appear to be 5 walkers on radar.. I’m guessing they planed to have definitive radar signatures for each unit, that would have been cool to see :P

Also scions where getting a kind of a cloak, that make their ship looks like its background. Slightly visible @ close range or something :P

tobad bz2 didnt have more time to develope.. like an extra year or so :(

the problem with making blink a chargegun is that it defeats its purpose, its made to transport a ship in the blink of an eye, and the hole it opens isnt big enough to move other ships, only big enough for the ship using it.  And what aobut my question with scion morality?  Does anyone have an answer?

Thats exactly what the old CCA walkers used to have. They also had dual blast. However the old ISDF walker legs were more stable, hense why the current walker seems to prefer those legs as well.

Scion morality? Well the scion morality thing is basically due to their actions politics wise. And how they view violence as something that is 'nessesary'. They treat it like a science, something to be done quickly and cleanly with accuracy and as little loss of life on both sides. If they were to make a weapon that attacked the piolets, it would stun them or something similar, not kill them.

How can you interogate prisonors if they are dead?

With reguards to blink, i think that atm it is *very* over powered, but worse...it makes playing scions predictable. Not fun.

However, giving it a limited range, and also giving it a tendiency to be random would be good.

I would make it random on these 3 things if at all possiable.

A) the distance traveled...or more presicly the range of the blink laser.
B) the ammo consumed.
C) the damage done to the user.

Post by: DarkFox on May 12, 2004, 05:35:50 PM
I strongly disagree. If it gets you out of range of the enemy weapons instantly (remember you're probably already about 135m away from each other, so it only needs about a 50m jump), then it's completely overpowered. Chargeup weapon is the best way to fix it.

I've been waiting for something like this to happen.

All you dreamers out there can kiss any further "add ons" to "improve" the modding potential of BZ2 goodbye thanks to the politics that happened within BZII. All your "wish-lists" are now, in effect, null and void and have been for some time.

It is a great shame that people cannot put aside their arrogence and biterness even when the oppotunity is presented to them.

'' won't happen ''...GSH?

Doesnt strike me as a good way of responding to the most powerful special...and by some arguments...weapon that an entire Race of BZII has.

Also, if you really dont want to do it. Why not give others the oppotunity/knowledge/tools to do it for themselves?

The reasons for what happened are many. But they include IMO GSH's almost total obliviousness to other individuals (i.e. being rather rude).

There are indeed examples of how people behaved in a manor towards GSH that was uncalled for and overly abusive. However, there are times when GSH has also....inflamed things past the point where it was necessary (IMO).

And, there are that small minority who are prepared, and have given both sides a chance (DF for example).

Being self righteous only works if your pursuing truth.

GSH can do whatever he wants. He doesn't want to put it in the game. That should be enough.

>Also, if you really dont want to do it. Why not give others the oppotunity/knowledge/tools to do it for themselves?

It'll probably take a lot of work from his part first to make this happen.

Second thing, GSH wasn't rude. You asked what you would classify this feature. He said "it won't happen." A simple direct reply to your question.

I was quite clearly refering to the larger picture and history of recent BZII poltics.

Here is a question: How come you seem to get (what i would call) '' all high and mighty'' when there is any form of critism or complaint...yet seem to  expect people to take snide remarkes all of the time?

Sounds like double standards to me.

Saying "no" is oblivious and rude?

You've had a really sheltered and spoiled life if that's what you classify as rude. A few choice swear words and comments about your genetic heritage could have be used, but I'd rather give you enough rope to hang yourself.

More weapon HPs won't happen. Modifying blink to be a charge weapon won't happen. If saying this is "rude," then learn to Deal With It(tm).

And with reguards to all these 'features'...I thought one of the primary purposes of 1.3 was to give modders the abilty to...mod.
You dont have to 'inculde' a feature in 1.3. Just inculde its possiabilty.

As Zero Angel clearly points out '' ...the primary purpose of 1.3 was to fix bugs...''

Not to have flame wars of self-righteousness.

However, on Zero Angel's point. The reason why the '' ...the primary purpose of 1.3 was to fix bugs...'' is to make the game more enjoyable. If the 'solution' to those bugs causes more harm than is nessesary, esp if another option is avialable. Then surely the correct course of action is to respect one another and discuss a suitable solution that takes into account not only the gamers, but also the people that have to produces the patch as well.

How would you say he was rude?  By being upset when kicked in the teeth?  That's not being rude, that's being defensive.

For *years*, Nathan has told us that flying was a bug in the code and would be eliminated in 1.3 and for *years* he has endured the whining about it being removed.  Anybody would get upset if subjected to that, especially me.  In response, he kept saying that if you wanted to hover, just stick with 1.2. No biggy.  It continued.  [Sigh]  (paraphrased) Guess what folks?  I really don't care. It's gone in 1.3.  Just play 1.2 if you want to hover.

Before the 1.3 Beta was released, we knew that there would still be resistance, but none of us anticipated that things would get personal.

What gets me is the the lack of understanding what a Beta release means.  It means, "Okay, we are close and this is what we have so far. Please test it out and let me know what you think."  Indeed, some were appreciative of the new features, but the knee-jerk-in-the-groin reactions experienced - and tolerated... - were something I would expect from some inbred hillbillys, not the people here.

Does anybody here truly know and appreciate what Nathan has sacrificed and been through the past few years making 1.3?  No, you don't.  Neither do I.  I have an idea though having been a programmer in the past.  Making mods is child's play compared to programming.  I'd compare modding to painting a room as opposed to designing and building a house.  You guys really have no idea of what what's been accomplished.  (Cantata does)  But no, let the Nathan whippings begin because the Beta ships are a little sluggish and What? No hovering?!?!?!?

So, basically, thanks to the personal and tolerated attacks, the community just basically shot themselves right in the proverbial foot, killed the goose who laid the golden eggs, etc.  And I don't blame Nathan one bit.

So dream on and make all the wishlists you want to your heart's content because now it just ain't gonna happen. And enjoy all those the nice A/V's in 1.2 too.  You've earned it.

What makes you think that i agree with flying? Or that i think the outrageous abuse he got was acceptable? You should be asking more questions about me, not making statements. I have said many a time i have always thought flying was a bug. I LIKE the current (1.3PB1) physics. I have admiration for some of the solutions and clever bits of code work (something that i personsally would never be able to do...given that i am dyslexic and my brain quite litteraly functions in a way that really...REALLy doesnt like code).

Rudeness. Lack of respect for one-another. Those are the sparks that make the fuel of disagreement burn and destroy.

Could not agree more...except for the ' inbred hillbilly' comment. Comming from a family that is not....multicultural. The term 'inbred' as an insult is rather...well...insulting. This does not mean I have a problem with multiculturists however.

You guys really have no idea of what what's been accomplished. (Cantata does) But no, let the Nathan whippings begin because the Beta ships are a little sluggish and What? No hovering?!?!?!?

Good point. However the option of making hovering an option was what people had gripes with. It was very easy to add it as an option as is my understanding. E.g....making the door swing *and* have a cat flap is not really that hard from having a Door being able to swing and not have a cat flap. Great analogy with the house building/painting btw.

QuoteSo, basically, thanks to the personal and tolerated attacks, the community just basically shot themselves right in the proverbial foot, killed the goose who laid the golden eggs, etc. And I don't blame Nathan one bit.

I agree with you. However. What happens when that goose starts hootting over everyone? Whos to blame then? My answer would be both of them. The solution is to try and clean the crap off the people, and make the goose feel appicaited.

QuoteSo dream on and make all the wishlists you want to your heart's content because now it just ain't gonna happen. And enjoy all those the nice A/V's in 1.2 too. You've earned it.

And let the dream die? Simply because people are too self righteous to see past their own emotions? Your are your choices, and i choose to try to make things better.

Hey! Look guys!  We can edit posts too!

Quote from: Jwk the Hemp Monkey i agree with flying. i think the outrageous abuse he got was acceptable. You should be asking more questions about me, not making statements. I have said many a time i have always thought flying was not a bug. I DON'T LIKE the current (1.3PB1) physics. I have no admiration for some of the solutions and clever bits of code work (something that i personsally would have been able to do...given that i am dyslexic and my brain quite litteraly functions in a way that really...REALLy likes code).

Rudeness. Lack of respect for one-another. Those are the sparks that make the fuel..

Could not disagree more...except for the ' inbred hillbilly' comment. Comming from a family that is. The term 'inbred' as an insult is rather...well. This does mean I have a problem with multiculturists however.

Red devil...what on earth are you trying to do? Replacing '' Like '' with '' DO NOT LIKE ''...

How do you expect me to respond to that? Well done? you can invert meanings?
Where the hell is the 'lock' function...this isn’t progress....take it to the forum that is ment to hold this kind of 'discussion'.
