I was leading a force of assault tanks into a Scion base, but couldn't target anything. I know there was a jammer up, but shouldn't I be able to target things within visual range?
I moved the assault tanks into range to see if they would initiate attack on their own, and all they did was sit around, waiting for the spires to take them out.
I thought the jammer only took out radar targeting, not visual targeting as well....
There is no such thing as visual targeting, that does need to be implemented IMHO.

Even if there *was* a highly advanced targetting system in the ISDF vehicles that is linked to the pilots eyeballs, I suspect it'd probably still get jammed by those pesky scions.
Your tank's orders/communication/targetting system isn't working probably when you're around a jammer: What makes you think this must be a *bug* ?
Yes, your pilot can see the target just fine with his own eyes, but it's not your pilot that's getting jammed is it? It's the tank he's in.
"What makes you think this must be a *bug* ?"
Well, considering its been the way it used to be from 1.0 - 1.2 pretty much. I don't have much doubt that people would assume that was its intended way of working.
The jammer is clearly useless in 1.0 -> 1.2, I honestly thought it was bugged back then, especially when I could target and even lock image-seeking missiles onto the actual jammer itself.
This is where it would be nice to be able to share the discussions had on the private board, to avoid having to rehash the same issues...
To me the bug isn't that you can't target or command units to attack around a Jammer, but that your AI is so stupid they'd sit there in full view of the enemy and NOT fire. If you lead them to within range they should attack on their own, as a human would.
-Av-
Mabey they should attack....but without using 'target lead position'....as in...they dont 'aim ahead' with their guns because hey cannot target the enemy. Might be difficult to pull off and might also result in mortar bikes and such doing odd things....but it would be good.
I doubt that would be necessary because the ai can still see even if they can't target. It would be a little extreme if the ai shot behind an enemy until the ai unit ran out of ammo. Even a human can adjust his/her aiming, if that player misses his/her target.
I think it's more of a command problem, or the enemy just isn't within the AI's engage range. When I order a unit to go to a spot, it goes there, and when I place an enemy, the AI I ordered to go there just sits there. Perhaps there should be a change in their wait command, and defend command (I've seen topics on defense problems).
Edit:

Then why can you still select your units when you're within radar range. You can still order them around, but can't attack other units and buildings with them. Would that be considered a bug?
I don't really care about the targetting as long as my units know how to *defend* themselves. At least return fire when fired upon... fairly basic rule of engagement.
What's the point of building units when they can't do squat?
Just give them the "hold" order and they will stop what they are doing - or not doing - and fire at anything within range.
But thats still a crappy solution. Units won't strafe with the hold command on, and they also will have to be within their specified weapon or engage range in order to fire at targets, which can usually have them moving into the enemies range as well, leaving them open ot fire.
Nah, they don't move much. Just have enough of them (with or without trucks) in a group and you're basically creating a bunch of AT/SP-Stab Turrets, sans the deploy time. BLAM!

DON'T LET HIM ON YOUR SERVERS! HE USES EXPLOITS TO EQUIP TURRETS WITH CANNONS   :x  :missiler: :sniper: >:) :evilish: :devilgun: :nuke: :rollingpin: !!!!!!
Darn, you've found me out...
It is not too late to follow the path of righteousness, and fairness. Please, go back, and take a right at the fork in the path.
How you know he made a left? Maybe he made a right and he now needs to make a left!
It's....too late. I'm forever damned.

Because the left path is always the shortcut (I think).
Surely if you always went left you would be going in a circle...which far from being 'short' would infact be an 'infinate' route...
wait...no...thats wrong!!.
There is something...i cant quite...
Oh yeah. Get back on topic 8 P
Why not just make a map, and code in one path point from a to b, and impassible hills around it :D. Anyway, we'll find out more about the jammer if 1.3 comes out. When flesh storm comes out... CANCELED!
