Title: Should the current private beta be released
Post by: Jwk the Hemp Monkey on January 27, 2005, 05:56:21 PM
Has it progressed so far that most of the bugs we are testing have already been detected, and thus our effort is no longer as relavent as it used to be? if so, would it be an idea to release the private beta as 'beta 2'. Obviously not the final beta, but something for use to chew into to make sure that the testing of the 1.3 Beta (which ever version) is not fruitless?

*nodding wildly*
Please do so :)

The greatest advantage would be the possibility for the players to enjoy a fixed version and to give you the possibility to find new bugs therefore :
*thumbs up*

1.3 is still being worked on as we speak.  Just recently many new features have been added that expand the modability of the game.  I  won't go into detail about the changes, but I'm sure many will appreciate them.

Did you bring back thumper?

Deformable terrain (thumper) is a no-go.

I agree with Commando, some very exciting things have only recently been done, not just from a Mod point of view but from a bug squishing one.

Ultimately it's up to Nathan when it's released, and I feel a renewed sense of optimism from him given his recent activity.

The current patch and its abilities can be summed up in one word.  'Amazing.'

I don't see that this question is very appropriate , it's upto the developers to decide when the patch is ready for release , not the community , and given the lambasting they ( the devs) recieved when the last version was released I'd be very wary of releasing a new version until I knew full well that it was as good as it possibly could be .

Yes, far far too many morons out there chastize things without fulling exploring them.

good points...but...it the patch has moved on that much....whats the point in us testing the current beta?

The wait is probably due to the outbursts from the 1.3 Public Beta.  I wouldn't count on seeing another one in a while to be honest, even with all of the advancements.  I personally wouldn't want to see another public beta, after what happened with the last one.  I was afraid 1.3 was dead as a result of the community's behavior, not the entire community, only those of a few.

on both sides....

however, the people who *are* testing the current public beta are the ones who need an update, they will be the ones interacting with it. Not to mention its a bit like music, you may be desturbed by it at first, but once you get used  to it, evne if you dont like it, it doesnt shock you so much

also it is still a 'beta'

Case-in-point, it is a beta, but the morons do not think of it as such.

surely those that are willing to test and their needs for their effort to be worth while is a larger factor than  ''o some people might get all stressy, despite the fact the edge of that knife has already been dulled''

After reading this i still think that it is a good idea to publish it (maybe because my lack of knowleadge "what happened when the first beta arrived"). But why dont you do it like that:

Split up the Testing Areas :

Dev Team & Current Closed Beta testing Area
Everything as today
-----
Second wve of Closed Beta users, indipendeant from the first group
They can use newer released Patches with the aim to find Bugs
-----
All the rest of players
Uses BZIIPB13I

The second wave of testers should be somehow known to the devs or maybe alive on this board to get involved.
And yes I know the next "But what if..." Topic. I know that the patch will leak out of this, but somehow this might also to be solved...

Suggestion:  Do you guys think that perhaps GSH might sill feel some of the pain that you caused him when PB1 was released?  How about an apology?  How you don't have to mean it but, anyhow just an idea.
Title: Should the current private beta be released
Post by: Jwk the Hemp Monkey on January 28, 2005, 11:39:25 AM
it might result in some more spitting from GSH's direction...

but all that aside, whats the point in the current PB being tested? If you are not updated with at least a 'slightly behind private beta' what revalence does the testing bring. esp with comments like what bulldog and overmind said on this thread http://bzuniverse.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3785 . And now news that FE is not going to be converted 'because it would take effort'..i mean...it took effort to make FE in the first place. argh.....

It looks like most of the FE team are busy on their own mods.  Fishbone is working on Dune Command, Lizard is working on Flesh Storm, and Timvirus and Zeeder are working on Epic.  I'm sure they would rather work on their current mods than go back to update FE.  I too would love to see FE updated, especially single player because the save games will actually work now without aving every other save.

ok, FE topic aside... lets try an focus on a specific question.

Is there any point in testing the current public beta when the private one is supposed to be so different.

JWK if you spent half as much time actually contributing in a positive way as you do whining you could probably have made your own FE to 1.3 conversion by now .

certain issues that are in the public beta are also in the private beta.
its just that simple

To those requesting that the current beta be released as PB2 I say, Don't get your panties in a bunch. There are still some things that we need to correct and/or thoroughly test before we release it. Just be content knowing that it is being worked on, especially after all the crap that was flung at GSH and the testers after PB1 (points at monkey).

Who the hell do you think I am lizard? even without internet i have been hard at work for the last few months on bz2 related stuff continiously.

'whining'...jesus, what are you going to do next, critise me on my opinon about hovering or something equally padantic?

How about you make sure your analysis of other people is correct before you start making abrasive comments.

so, after that quick pointless detour, back to the subject at hand.

Why should i bother testing the current verison if it is so far behind? Can someone just answer that question?

You are a fine one to get on your high horse pal considering the hootstorm you and others stirred up round here in the past , personally I couldn't care less about your opinion on anything , just don't ever expect any help from me with anything ever .

if i recall, the reason why the hoot storm started was because people started getting extremly agressive and insulting...which understandably makes more agression....vicious cycle.

Like with you right now, i have absolutly no idea why your suddenly being so fragrently agressive to me. Before those last few posts i had nothing for respect to you lizard. I even sent you a little 'welcome back!' friendly pm when i got my internet back a few days ago.

btw, i was on the anti-hover side....just thought i wouldn't let that little detail slip.

i mean....come on
Quoteyou and others
... me and 'others' ey? cause yes...there is some secret group that i am in a blood pack with to *over throw the bz2 modders*.

FEAR ME LIZARD, FEAR!!!1!!

P.S. oh, and lets notforget my EVIL requests for help from you. God i am so selfish, you know...wanting to know how glow textures work...or how to edit map things. MAn i am just such a bastard!

oh ffs stop playing the innocent you know damn well what I was refering to , if you really have forgotten then I suggest you lay off the dope .

Just as a little refresher there was a certain matter of a sustained campaign of flaming a particular developer because certain people didn't approve of his manner even though he never once attacked a single member of this board in person .

I'll say no more , I'm done with this .

oh, i am laughing. Learnt to do that a while ago with the bz2 community. This little outburst from lizard seems to be similar to 2 people having an argument, the 3rd bloke saying ''come now, lets just not be rude toeachother and work it out reasonably'' and one of the other two blaming the 3rd bloke for everything... i mean why should i bother spending my energy because of the love of the game helping with testing and training newer players when i just get spat on for asking people to respond to me in the way i do to them. Its really upset me about how bz2 has spirled down.....battlezone was my first ever video game heh...oh well.

P.S.
Quote... lay off the dope ...

ahahahah, now i understand! Lizard has a personal thing against dope so hates me on princaple just because of my screen name. Hilarious !

Ok, I don't see this thread going anywhere constructive from here.  I'm locking it.

As for 1.3 Public Beta 2, it will be out when it is ready, which may not be for a while.  I don't think anyone wants a repeat of the public beta's release.  That would probably be the death of 1.3, if that situation occurred again.

If you are only playing 1.3 Public beta to test it, there is no need to test it.  If 1.2 is more enjoyable, I recommend going to it until beta 2 is out, which hopefully won't be that long away.
