Like Overmind, I didn't quite know where this fit. Hope the BZ2 modders aren't too annoyed by this intrusion.
Anyway the MAD project is making progress visually and functionally. here is a screenshot:
We plan to have a demo in maybe 3 months or so, to get feedback, so I wanted to keep the BZ/BZ2 gang aware because the remaining BZ2 community could be quite helpful in testing it.
The site is: http://mad.orderlymayhem.com (http://mad.orderlymayhem.com)
NICE!!! Now I know what I want for christmas!!!
Oh man, i'm loving that blur effect. Its starting to look more and more like FarCry (which is awesome, even though I just happen to think FarCry is overrated).
The screenshots look awesome BS. I look forward to the demo. Love the look and feel too.
now that i look closely, those armoured cars actually resemble a unit from the qf mod that i made
thats purely coincidental, no one has seen your units off your mod yet........ :-P
true - only coz i want it to be a surprise
More likely you saw one of these MAD models and kept it in your subconscious.
it was made about 3 months ago actually, and that picture is the first one i have seen of that type of vehicle in MAD
Looks very nice, though I can't get past the feeling that tanks with wheels look odd.
Still, graphically speaking it looks great.
Probably none of us can think of a tank with any part of it touching the ground .
But the pic looks great, hope to be able to play it sometime soon.
VSMIT.

Um, that's the
only type of vehicle ever seen in MAD... unless he's posted a picture of the airplane model also. It's a ground-based, wheeled-vehicle based combat game and no matter how much I whine they've got no real plans for hovervehicles. :(
I assure you that what you're looking at is 100% Lizard magic. He's a true arteest, that's for sure.
I'm an old, spoiled BZaholic so I too have trouble with vehicles that actually have to touch the ground to move... :) It's a personal bias I can't quite get over...
I've seen pics of their helicopter, too.
Those looked a bit odd too since the landing gear looked like legs. Kind of insect-like.
Here's another screeny. Hopefully they're getting more drool-worthy :).
Yeah the wheeled vehicles seem to get all the press. We're going though some rebuilding and they're the first out of the shop.
Just to make Avatar happy and give him less to whine about :) I'm looking into having a hovercraft type of vehicle, quite similar in feel to the BZ2 hovercraft. It won't be featured much in the campaign, but it will be in there for modders, and multiplayer if we get that far :).
There will be a lot of unconventional styling in this game: wheeled tanks, unique heli-fighters with 3 and 4 rotors, and insect-like landing gear. I really want the sense that its a world that's different in many ways.
The Tanks are definitely picking up an 'attitude' now, looking very good. I have to check out the latest builds, and feel guilty I'm not contributing more, but GSH is looking at PB4 very soon and BZC needs a lot of work yet... taking all my meager free time and attention.
Still, looks like Lizard has really developed a good look for MAD, and I'm better at expanding already existing things than coming up with new stuff... so maybe I'll be of more help later in MAD development... :)

*droool...* :)
Just noticed your site is secretly a wiki...
this is freeware is it not (for want of a better term)
and based aroudn the BZII engine or something? the last screenies i saw had a heavy BZII feel to them... but i LOVE those graphics.. wish i could bring those into BZII =[
Its a real game all their own. I think they deserve $.
It will be for pay when he finishes it.

I'm considering making it low-cost-ware. I'm going to get laid........ off :) soon and I want to make a go at indie game development. It will personally cost me enough to make that I think I'm entitled to ask for a few bucks. I've been toying with $16.95. we'll see though. The biz may not allow for too low a price. Most other indie games are $19.95 and up.
Not only will the venture need to support me, but I'll also want to pay heavy contributors such as Lizard.
I'm going to see how well it does in contests and such. If it flops there I may need to re-evaluate.
I'd definitely pay that.
where could you buy it from, like over the net or ebay, local shops??
I believe he is planning on Internet sales so packaging expenses don't have to come in to play though maybe I can convince him to make a run of printed game with case, booklet and what-not. Like a "MAD: Special Edition".
I've already got my promise in to buy at least 3 copies of the game to give to my friends...part of marketing. :)
*and*
If you make a printed version, BSer, I'll gladly buy a couple of those. :D
P.S.
Oh, BBB, those tanks you were admiring. They do drive nice, I know for a fact. ;)
I think SteamPowered only ask for 10%, so you could ask for $19.99 and still be making higher...
Or something as simple as Google Checkout if you want to try to handle distribution yourself (hence paying for server costs).

hmm im not the kind of person who buys over the net - but i guess i can make 1 exception
I always buy over the net. Easily my last 30 (at least) game purchases have been over the net (with probably 28 of those being over Steam...), have not bought a game in a store in over two years now.

really? :-o
Always; my main issue with games from stores, they come with freakin disks, which they, for some godforsaken reason, always need in the drive to run, so I end up making 500gigs worth of disk images so I do not have to do that (I have not put a disk in my drive in probably over a year, hate hunting for them, I have hundreds of hundreds of hundreds of disks, so hunting for one is never fun, nor short, takes hours usually). When bought through steam they, at most, require a 'net connection (which you only need on the first run as long as you have steam remember your password, then once ever few weeks after that, no issue since I am always connected), no disks, no looking for game keys, etc... They 'just work'.
EDIT: Also, Steam keeps things up-to-date, never hunting for patches or anything. The only time a patch needs to be hunted for is if the idiot developer does not give a copy to Steam so they can update their servers, but then it can be installed manually then in most cases...

I'd have to agree. Given my limited exposure to it so far I'd say Steam is the least annoying and most beneficial of any of the online registration/verification/autoupdating/application startup apps... :)
Relatively painless and insures that idiots can be tracked down and terminated... win/win unless you live off of warez...

It's relatively easy to pirate steam games because the service is so popular. Usually you can still play on the non vac secured servers too.
Any game can be pirated, heck even Pay-per-use games can be (there are WoW private servers around now after all), and it is unlikely you would be using VAC unless your game is using the Source engine. :P
There are ways to work around it though, and some easy, secure, and very difficult to hack (not to mention can be changed with each patch easily) ways if you do not mind requiring the Internet to run it.
Steam is just a distributor, no more nor less secure then any other place, and once one person has it they can distribute it all they wish, hence you still need 'protection' of some sort, and Steam let's you bind information to Steam accounts (the SteamWorks SDK makes this rather easy) to help that along.

If you make it a Steam Game you can add achievements.
Nope, making it a Steam game does not let you add Steam type achievements, but you can do them yourselves. However, adding in the Steamworks SDK lets you do things like add in Steam style achievements (including recording them into your public profile if the game so wanted), Steam networking browser, and a ton of others things, and you only pick and choose what you want, you could just use one part of the SDK if you wanted, it is very well designed.

Just to show that we do have some unit variety, and even water now:
We'll have a demo in the next few months.
NICE!!!
Looking good, keep up the awesome work!
You officially have me drooling, what engine are you using? Or are you not allowed to say?
anyhoo the game looks amazing, I will definitely get this one!
Keep up the g00d work!

I really like the watercolor look it has...reminds me of Heavy Metal comics.
speaking about comics, doesn't that pic look like a highres drawing? :-o
is that on purpose cause it looks really cool.
He made his own engine.

I wish I could write that well, I would be decades ahead of progress in my game.
BTW, though everything in that picture looks awesome, what I remember from the last video posted was that the explosions looked kinda lame, is this fixed now?
On a related note, can we see another action video? :D

Imagine how cool it will be with all that stuff roaring around, venting anarchy and destruction!
