Hey all, me again, here to fill you all in on some progress made on Capture the Nuke, a tackon to SRV v2.06.

Yup, two nukes at once, not something you wanna see hitting your base :P
Anyway, as you can see, Im using some custom textures. A really softened smoke sprite for the ground and an additive cloudy smoke sprite for the firey plume.
As you can also see, Im still using the stock smoke sprite for the column and the plume, anybody have any suggestions on what style I should use?
make something that's a little "fuller"...not so full of holes for the stack/plume.. i remember vids of nukes looking like a solid fog tornado with a big bulb on top
That was with stock smoke too, youtube just screwed up the last part of the vid :P
*Feels the power of the nuke appearing in hands*
Ok, now uses the soft smoke throughout, but I think it looks a little underdefined...

This thread was recieving some activity over at bz2md so I thought I'd update this one too.

Having a hard time thinking whats going on in the first pic, but I have an idea.
Can't wait to get my hands on this one :-D

You go right on ahead and stand in front of a nuclear shockwave without it if it pleases you, I'll be watching you get swallowed up by the radiation, from INSIDE the plume! ^_^
From my what i've seen from explosion in real life I'd say the colors of your explosion are off & need to be tweaked abit to seem more real.
When an explosion happens it starts off a big bang & then you'll see one big fireball rise up into the air. The fireball slowly turns to smoke as the fire goes out. The fire is usually alot more brighter at the start too. Yes, i've seen a real 25 foot fireball once & i don't think i'll ever forget that moment when the center of the fireball came directly at my cab. For those that are wondering, i didn't get hurt.
The smoke should either be more gray/white, and SLOWLY turn BLACK, or just fade off...
I tried a grey color, the problem is, that when I do, it looks way too soft...
hmm.. then maybe its an image issue - try darkening the smoke texture in photoshop or whatever
Holy crap! This would look awesome if I could get rid of the square outline.
This is what I got when I changed the blendmode of the cloudy smoke tex in the plume to "srccolor dstcolor decal".

Now THAT looks weird!
I'd love a documentation of what the different words mean in different places.
Its a base depixelizor.

Seconded.
Seconding the second seconding
At a guess, i'd say it goes something this. They are blending modes.
so
textureBlend = "one one modulate"
startColor = "255 255 255 255"
finishColor = "255 255 255 0"
would take the first value eg 255 255 255 255, multiply it by one and blend it with the second value, resulting in a "white fade to invisible"
any value 0 will not be visible at all.
So "srccolor dstcolor decal"
startColor = "255 255 255 255"
finishColor = "255 255 255 0"
I think... srcolor (is the actual color of the image)
dstcolor is whatever color is displayed behind the image (2d)
decal, I think displays only the alpha channel.
So this would blend the actual texture colors with whatever colors are behind the texture only in the alpha chanel area.
As we can see this looks horrible. solid white in the middle, solid black around it, and bad alpha channel blending at the edges that varies depending on what is behind it.
I have found dstcolor to be useful for creating some variable effects, (shoot ground, snow glows white, rock glows red) but be advised that when used with multiple sprites it amplifies its own effect, and invdstcolor cancels out its own effect...
Just thought I should update you guys. :-D

Pictures speak for themselves, Im making great progress! ^_^
Ok I was expecting at least SOME responce...
Nuke effects have been popular around here in recent months, so give it a day or so. :)

Who what and where?
Who else is making nukes (and has made showoff posts)?
What does it look like?
Where is it posted?
Im interested with collaberating to make the most mesmerizing and "Holy hoot"-est explosions :-D
For those of you who like seeing this thing in action, heres a little gif. :P

Yeah, I'm not sure who OM is referring to either. Nice use of the texture for the ground smoke. And what is that second shockwave originating from? Doesn't look like it's part or the nuke.
Oh, and what blend mode did you use for the glowing fireball?
@secondary shockwaves: Those were made by the recycler and bomber, as I went a tad overboard with some of the SRV explosions :roll:
@Blend: Went back to one one modulate, just did some color tweaking.
I could of sworn I've seen a few others over the past few months as well... Maybe just older ones of yours?

Yup, right on the nose :P
BTW guys, I felt I should get you guys up to speed on just how the nuke looks in action (just hope Im not desenitizing you guys to all this, that would suck when the mod finally comes out :P)
Watch! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFwur3Y1Tus)
i watched :D
it amused me
lots
