Title: Tech Shell Popularity Poll
Post by: General BlackDragon on March 26, 2008, 11:49:58 PM
Well, since I actually dont see any kind of poll options...Just tell me what you think:

How many of you would like to see me complete a "tech" shell for PB4? Here's a screenshot of mostly what I have so far. This would be very similar to my "Gothic Shell (http://www.bzuniverse.com/forum/index.php/topic,7643.0.html)", but a "Tech Shell".

Do note, this would keep me rather busy and take atleast...2-3 weeks to finish.

What do you all think? Do you want it?

Looks very good so far.

You should probably try to fill in those large gray areas with a little detail though.  Maybe use a brushed metal texture.
I really like the circuit board-like lines and aqua green areas in the corners.

The coloring looks a little too, aqua.

Try greens instead of cyan and lower the brightness of the metal a bit

Agreed.
Looks cool so far, darker textured metal and less blazing blue and WOO!

I think it looks good the way it is, but agree with Steeveeo and Raven about darkening it.

Maybe a shell changer program like Boj did with Starfleet?

VSMIT.

If you need me to whip up a brushed metal texture, I can make a good one

Uuuuum. 1: I've added more "dark" gray to the light gray since that pic was taken, and

ZA...uum???? what? I see no differance...

Brightness has been changed

The color doesn't fit.  Needs to look military, nuts and bolts, muddy, worn, rough, etc.

Post by: anomaly on March 27, 2008, 09:23:04 PM
Nuts, bolts and a worn feel don't really fit the idea of this shell which is more high tech.

Hmm... actually, maybe a few bolts would look good on the brown part, make it look like a shiny brass window fitting with glowing gas behind it.

Oh, and just a question, not a suggestion but, is it possible to change the scrolling background cloud texture to something else?

As far as I know you cannot change the fact that it is smoke, but you can make it invisible easily enough.

Nice!
do you have a plugin to make those nice polygon shapes or is it all hard work?

Uuum. Well, I take the rectangle selection tool, and "draw" each one as a selection box in a new layer. Then i render with clouds with w/e color, and use various filter effects. so...Hard

That's vsmoke.tga, if I remember correctly.

QUE? What else uses vsmoke? I don't think you can change it to use a different texture can you?

No, but u might could change vsmoke.tga to be...ooh, say...dancing puppies? hmm ideas...
Title: Re: Tech Shell Popularity Poll
Post by: Steeveeo on March 27, 2008, 11:36:15 PM

Well...You could always make the renders use smoke.tga...

The cone spotlight is also hardwired to vsmoke.tga.

No, I don't think this is the greatest design.

Any chance of un-hardwiring these, or adding 2 more smoke textures, 1 for interface and 1 for light cones?
Title: Re: Tech Shell Popularity Poll
Post by: GSH on March 28, 2008, 11:33:06 PM
I'll consider that, but any mod that overrode vsmoke.tga will suddenly not work as expected.

A lot of problems are trivial if backward compatability isn't an issue.

I believe he ment adding 2 new textures and changing the ones the shell and lightcone use to point to the new ones. Thus not effecting vsmoke.tga. (ATM I am unaware of any mods using this for those 2 items)

I found 122 1.2 and 1.3 files that use vsmoke.tga

Like ismoke.tga for interface and lsmoke.tga for the light cones. Then anything using the vsmoke.tga texture would still have it, and anything that is hardwired and never changed. Mainly, the ismoke.tga since it is clearly engine hard coded and something many mods might want to change.

They'll be longer but look thinner.

Interesting, but doesn't look very practical.  Seems too transparent and too hard to see when at the edge of your vision.  Also, covers the radar but that's easy to fix.  Does the health change color as it decreases or does it stay green like in QF mod?
Title: Re: Tech Shell Popularity Poll
Post by: General BlackDragon on August 23, 2008, 11:33:59 PM
it changes

and in that pic, only the health/ammo bars are done. I still need to redo / move/etc the rest.

I wish there was a way to make it receed inward from both sides and meet in middle...
