Title: A quick hello with a question...
Post by: Scoob on April 14, 2008, 09:39:37 AM
Hi all,

Only recently registered on the forums so thought I'd pop on & say hi.

I've been a fan of BZ2 pretty much since it's release & my original boxed copy is still on the shelf next to much newer titles.

I must say I'm impressed with the work the community has done with the numerous entertaining mods that have been created.  I like 1.3 pb3 & it appears to make a good base for further mods, my two favourites at the moment are Steeveeo's Recycler and the FE mod.  I tend to alternate between these two when I fancy a quick skirmish vs. the CPU - not got in to online multi player at all as I'd most likely suck lol.

I do have a quick question regarding Steeveeo's Recycler and FE if anyone has the time to comment...  basically is there any way I could use Steeveeo's Recycler with FE at the same time?  I current have two separate installs & just switch between the two.  I just love the Rocket Towers & the ability to store Bio Metal offered by Steeveeo and the extra units etc. offered by FE.

I've had a play myself & made it so that Steeveeo's Recycler variants can be selected from the game setup screen when creating an IA game, however I just get the standard Recycler when the game launches - I always play EDF.  I assume these two mods just work too differently to coexist?  Just wanted it for my IA skirmish games as I don't do multiplayer matches at all at the moment.

Any guidance anyone can give would be appreciated, even if it's just to say 'nope, not possible' as at least then I'll stop trying lol.

Cheers,

Scoob.

Thanks for playing my mod Scoob, nice to know that people do play it.

As to your question, it would not be possible unless you knew how to change and morph the FE DLLs to your needs, as they use that Race Selection menu at the beginning of the match to spawn the correct recycler, overriding anything you may have put.

Also, you would need to do a BUNCH of editing of both mods to get them to be incorporated with one another, which, in the end, would be considered an entirely new mod after all that work.

BTW, what version of SRV do you currently have?

Yea. In order to add FE's hammer to Steevoo's recy varient, you'd have to add it to the menu (IF steevoo made a custom ibfact.odf, that is)

When FE13 is out and stable, if ever, it will be mutch easier to update Steeveeo's Rec to work with it.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, exactly, morphing the FE dlls was exactly what I had in mind in order to override the Race Selected override...erm, if I knew what you were talking about lol ;-)

You've answered my question as I expected however that these two mods cannot coexist without significant effort.  It's a shame as both have a lot to offer & I miss those rocket towers as I need them in FE!

I should have the latest version of your Recycler Mod Steeveeo, only downloaded & started playing again fairly recently.

Guess I'll stick with keeping the two distinct versions available to play separately then, now all I need is some good maps for 1.3 pb3...both for FE & when I'm using SRV.

Cheers,

Scoob.

So long as you have all the assets for each vehicle in your install, you can pull in any vehicle you want by adding it to mpvehicles.txt (or if you use svar4 to point to a different file, that one).

To pull in the rocket tower (or whatever), make a new recycler variant (i.e., ivrecyscoob and fvrecyscoob) and have them each make an ivconsscoob/fvconsscoob which builds the RT's.

Then add your recycler to the *recylist.txt files (or the file you are pointing to with svar9, if used).

Taking a break from FE13.  Spring is almost here and there's lots to do.

Doesn't FE13 use the old 1.2 dll's, or were those updated?

You can change the recycler in multiplayer by editing svar5, but does that work for instant?  Couldn't you just replace the stock recycler with the custom one and have that work?

I should have the latest version of your Recycler Mod Steeveeo, only downloaded & started playing again fairly recently.

The download link shouldve said which version it was, as I neglected to use any sort of descriptive naming conventions in the packs :P

A few questions that will give me all the info I need to identify your version.

1. Are there two types of missiles on either race that can be launched via missile bay? (Surface to Surface)
2. Can your constructor build an artillery stand? (both races)
3. Can you construct a base shield (both anti-missile and anti-artillery)?
4. Lastly, can you build LocalAmmo pods from the recycler? (not normal service pods)

If all those are true, its the latest version, if not, go here (http://www.bz2md.com/smf/index.php?board=60.0) and install version 2.06.

Hi,

Yep, I can confirm that 2.06 is installed :-)

Red Devil: I may well have a play if it's as straight-forward as you suggest - at least to get a Rocket Tower.  However I thought the way FE gives you the extra race options effectively stops it using whatever reccy variant I select?

I was wondering if the sub-menu approach used in Steeveeo's RV was particularly tricky for things such as Defences etc. as this is pretty cool.  Sorry but I've done Zero BZ2 modding myself so rather ignorant about much of it but will certainly have a go when time permits.

Thanks again for all the replies people, much appreciated - hopefully I'll have some time shortly to act on some of the advice given!  Supposed to be working at the moment but needed an internet break ;-)

Cheers,

Scoob.

You can also replace the rocket towers with hornet rocket tanks.

Hi Spawn,

Yes, that is my current tactic however they often tend to get 'bashed' out of place by repair trucks & the like.  This often leads to them either being destroyed as they become the primary target of any attackers, or they get knocked further into the base or behind a gun tower so become ineffective.

Cheers,

Scoob.

FE13 uses an MPI DLL I converted for 1.3 (works in PB3, not finished for PB4).  I also modified the DM DLL a bit for PB4.  Tons of spring and summer projects, so it's back-burnered for now.  "Ahhhh! Fresh (warm) air!"

To simplify things, you can also rename the GT's to something like ibgtow.fdo and then rename the RT's to whatever the GT's were named.

For the recycler variant method, just check out one of the existing 1.3 variants.  Start at the Recycler and work your way forward.

Hi,

Maybe I'll get the chance to play this weekend and look at trying some of the suggestions here.

TheJamsh:  Didn't know there was a G66 for 1.3pb3!  Used a vers of G66 it seems like years ago...heh, it probably WAS years ago...I'll have a search for that.

Btw: are there any reliable places to download Maps & Mods etc. these days?  I've tried some of the old Map sites I used to go to & often get broken links where content has been removed.  Just want to make sure I have downloads of all the most uptodate goodies such as good IA maps, G66 for 1.3pb3 etc.

...Just been playing a bit BZ2 on my new(-ish) 32" HD TV.  Nice.  Considering that's on an old Athlon 2400+ with a GeForce 4600 it's cool that it plays so well.  Still, I guess the 2400+ is far newer than BZ2...:-)

Cheers,

Scoob.

If you are installing for 1.2, use version E instead of C
http://www.valler.com/bz2/files/Full-G66-15e.zip

1.3 has a few files instead of one, so I will just link you to my two partial install guides:
