Title: .ogg problems
Post by: bigbadbogie on April 23, 2008, 05:36:16 AM
i have a serious problem with the ogg format

sometimes when an ogg file plays in the game, it plays through and then the game exits saying that an error has occurred - not during it playing but when it ends

To BBB's question why would the game crash?

Ok, try that again, I believe that OGGs are STABLE only in PB4

oh great - that means that the qf mod will go from 400mb to a 600mb download

If you have a quick repro case for the crash, submit it. It'll help ensure that things work as expected.

Basically the .ogg files and any additional files required to cause your crash.

with a saved game maybe? :)

"repo case"
reproduction case

In the private betas this is often a save file, an asset or two, and a description like, "wait 10 seconds".

GBD, if the issue occurs in the shell, a savegame can't be made which is why I didn't state a save game specifically.  Savegames only work for ingame errors and not for errors that occur in the shell or in multiplayer.

yes, but OGGs can be used anywhere, so if it's ingame...

Your sound card is imploding...

1. From what I've gathered, .ogg is available in pb3, but not fully stable, will be definently stable in PB4.

2. It sounds like your graphics card. My suggestion is sending the mod out to your beta testers and see if they experience the same issues.

yes, 1: ogg's work fine in pb3 afaik.

2: what does graphics card have to do with sound?

ROFLOL,

That was me being an idiot. I was looking over at my graphics card the same time I was typing. I meant to say sound card, but the wrong word was typed. :D :D :D

Ah, okay...thought something like that might have happened

But yea...hmm, but since he replaced it with a normal wav sound, it implies that the sound is in a location that is ...erm...not possible in BZ? or he did something wrong modding wise? I'd have to look at it to tell if it's a modders error or the game itself.

YAY I FIXED IT!!!

i also discovered that if the filename is over 11 characters (not including the .ogg) then it strangely exits after the sound is finished - no exception error either, it just says that bzone.exe has a encountered a problem and needs to close
