Everytime i try to start battlezone 2 it says "sorry can't start hardware accelerated Direct3D 6"
does any1 know what i can do to fix this?
This with the 1.2 patch or the 1.3pb3 patch?
Also, some hardware info might help...a lot....
So you know, BZ2 worked fine for him until this happened.
So he hasn't done anything with his computer and it just started happening all of a sudden?
i used to see that sometimes on my old comp - i cant remember what the cause was but it wasnt related to BZ2
I'd generally get that error after another 3D application crashed. A quick restart would fix the problem.
Yes, I got that a lot when I was using the Omega drivers. When I uninstalled them and went with the latest stock ATI Catalyst ones, the problem disappeared.

uh which ones did you get?
Try getting the most recent, but be ready to have to roll back.
BZ2 1.0 - 1.2 (and 1.3pb1/2) didn't deal well with a SIS630 video chipset, which is usually embedded on motherboards. They could give that "can't start direct3d" error on startup. 1.3pb3 has some code to detect that and work around.
Try 1.3pb3 if you can't start BZ2, even after a reboot of Windows. You may need to edit render.cfg (in the same folder as bzone.exe) to enable the SIS630Compatability flag.

I got that problem using the newer ATI drivers, consequently I am using some freakishly older ones at the moment. :)

so should i swith drivers? and if i should how? and which ones?
I had an issue with a moderate age ATI. That's why my new card is an nvidia.
Nvidia has the same issue with a lot of games, one of my friends has a couple 8800. It just seems to be an issue with all the newer things they are putting out...

GeForce 8600 GT, dodged the bullet...
8600's use the same drivers, you probably just have not ran the games that he uses. I do not think he has ever played, or even heard of BZ2 (not his style... at all...)...
By newer though I mean even newer then those. Cards made for SM3 seem to be dropping older support...

I have had this problem once after I reinstalled direct X awhile back, all I did was type "*win key*+ R" then type "dxdiag" in the run dialog, when the DXdiagnostic tool comes up click *display* then enable direct X and direct 3d(if they are not already enabled)
hope this helps, if not you know something new about your compy. :)
On most cards you cannot even disable them without turning hardware acceleration down in full...

@OvermindDL1 Have you tried Catalyst 7.11? It works really good with my X1950XT and X1950Pro Cards. No problems at all with any of my games. Catalyst 8.4 are terrible, completely broke OpenGl in Freespace and stuttering like crazy in AvP 1.
I think what I am currently using is 6.12 on my X1950XT(X)...
