Hey guys, I am a newbie to this place, but may I say when I dusted off the old BZ2 disc i was absolutely stoked to see such a big community out there :-D.
I have a strange error I am encountering in BZ2 in any game mode map mod or anything....whenever I play, after about 5 minutes or so all the terrain textures disappear, also, the interface including options menu when I press ESC have all the buttons but no text inside... no idea what is going on and I never recall this ever happening...
Wondering if anyone could shed some light...
Thanks alot
slade
Well, 1st off which patch do you have installed. 2nd what is your video card and its drivers. We get that info, anyone here can help you.
Sounds like you're using a modern card (probably 8800GT or 9600GT, right?)
If you scroll down you see that I have already come across this error previously here. (http://www.bzuniverse.com/forum/index.php/topic,7699.0.html)
NVidia's drivers now lack support for older games like BZ2, and I have yet to run across an older driverset that works.
I have found that turning your sky detail to [LOW], or on some maps even [NONE] will rid you of this error.
8800GT correcto...
I did some messing around with my settings and I haven't narrowed it completely, but it is related to certain settings in the graphics... never the less i got it working, from what I can tell, it has nothing to do with object detail or particle detail...
Once I have it narrowed down I will post up exactly what causes it :-D
I think we already determined that is was the newer nvidia drivers on the cards - i have an 8800gts with older drivers and it plays bz2 fine
that and /nodxt right?
/nodxt is only if you have an *ancient* card.

Or this error. Without /noDXT my text, cursor, and half the graphics disappear when the error occurs.

As I said, its a Skydome issue, turn sky settings to [LOW] or [NONE] (everything else full) and see if it still happens.

Your suggestion about Underclocking via Rivatuner does not work in the least.
I clocked mine down by 100 mhz, then 150, then 200, then eventually I was down 50% in each clock! No effect other than making the graphics card reallly slow...
Just thought I should point that out.
Also, I just now noticed you said you were using an 8800GTX, not a card known to have issues with BZ2, so far its only the 8800 and 9600 GT (not sure about the 9800 series yet)
theres a 9800 series now?? jesus its going fast!!!
I can check the 9800 GX2 for BZ2 compatibility. My new computer has two of them right now (QUAD SLI!), and I just dumped PB3 onto it.
*checks*
Works fine.
*Quad* SLI??? :-o I just got an AGP ATI 3650 and I thought I was in heaven. Seems that I am merely content.
CmptrWz, the Nvidia issue takes a few minutes to kick in. It doesn't occur immediately after launch. It only seems to happen if the sky is not set to None.
Between *checks* and "Works fine." I had 30 min of running around with everything set to max.
Odd, not sure why it would work for you but act up for me, on a 9800 GTX, and others using 9600 GTs. I think even GreenHeart had problems on his 8800 GTX with newer drivers which 9800 GTX users and 9600 GT users are forced to use.
As I said, I have a GX2, or rather two of them. I am also running Vista 64 Bit on the computer in question.
Time for hardware transform and lighting :-D
