Title: Original Map Makers
Post by: shane ward on June 10, 2008, 09:57:14 PM
OK, Been looking through the battlezone 2 credits and found one person that was making the levels. Someone called Jack Davis.

Is there any other people that also worked on the level design.

Would be good to get hold of them and ask how they made such professional levels like them in the game ;)

I myself found some new tricks in making damn good maps. Still need to touch up the Technique.

Jack Davis was one of the people we had for a bit. I think he came to us from MTV (and might have gone back there), and had gotten his start in unreal maps.

(It's been a really long time, my memory could be playing lots of tricks)

For what it's worth, I for one am truly grateful for the original BZ2 game creators that still inhabit this forum. You all are really the one's that have kept the game alive. Quick guys! Let's get them into cryo statis so we can stop the aging process...Tanks super dudes! :-D

I want to say thanks also. There is no other game like this one out there, and I'm glad to have original programmers still helping the community to be able t play this game and take it to new heights.

Also, Just a Question,

How where the Original ISDF and Scion Maps made by, Where the maps made in the Bz2editor, or was there a external editor that the company used to make the terrain,

Thanks
Shane

All the maps were made in BZ2's ingame editor. Before 1.3, bzone.exe had the editor built in.

While some of the maps are truly beautiful (some of the Rend maps are gorgeous) many suffer from 'editus interruptus' and aren't quite finished...  Then there are those that have layouts that defy gameplay in terms of access and base layout.

So yes, the stock maps are good for the time they were created and for being the forerunners of current maps, but none of them are as beautiful as say Space's maps, or have as good a layout as some of Lizard's creations.

This is to be expected, though, as stock maps are meant to be just the beginning...  :)

There's that hanging lava lake on the west side of Payback.  Maybe GH can fix that.

I keep meaning to take some time and really try to push the limits on a map...

Lava that rolls down a hill and drips into a lava pool using the 'drip' from FE...
Waterfalls using a mix of particles and 'computer class' objects...
Birds, bird calls, grazing bison, and maybe one big cat hunting them, and you...
Weather that changes from thunderstorm under two suns to drizzle under one to snow as they both set...
Ice on a lake that cracks and 'thaws', with larger chunks drifting away as icebergs...
Earthquakes as three moons converge on the same side of the planet, then subside as they move apart...

It'd be so pretty people might actually stop fighting for a bit and sit back to watch.  :)

Thinks of base on the ice, slowly floating away...

I've got the birds/Boids, Jaks, and Ice Rhinos in FE MP now, replete with critter sounds.

Don't be silly, Titans don't fly...

I mean, using Jump Jets isn't flying, right?  More of a quick lift and a sustained fall...

If you gave Maulers jump jets, you could call them Leaping Lizards, but Titans?  There's just no good descriptor for that.

Well, there were THESE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titan_intercontinental_ballistic_missile) Titans.

Titaroos are a line of bra wear for pre-teen girls, from the popular Underoos family of underwear products.

THE ORIGINAL MAP MAKERS:

Were they given some sort of layout or design that they were suppose to follow or was it just, "make sure it has 2 bases... have fun"?

EDIT: New page...
