Title: PURELY out of curiosity...
Post by: TheJamsh on September 22, 2008, 02:38:11 PM
no real reason, i just want to know.

what information is actually sent to other peoples computers when playing multi in BZ2?

your soul

but really, probably: your position, your directoin, what weapons you have, what your targeting, what your shooting, you know, all the same info the AI gets in IA/MPI.

Basically: Every single thing players are doing, and everything all other objects are/what they're doing.

Considering BZ2 uses the Dead Reckoning style network synchronization (everyone runs a full copy of the world, inefficient and unsafe, but easy to implement).  Hence I would wager it sends across Player movement changes (current position would be sent every so often, probably once a second, but changes in input are sent instantly, things like turning, accelerating, etc..), commands the player does to order things around (but the movement of those units would not be synced, only the order itself), and so forth.  It would also send a hash check of the world and if the hash gets too wrong then it causes the whole world to transfer from the server to the clients to ensure everything is synced (a gamestate in BZ2 terms).  Is there something specific you are wondering about?

actually while i was writing my question i sort of figured it out myself haha...

i just think its amazing when you really look at just how much is being sent in such a short space of time. very cool.

it's all 1's and 0's.

BTW, If god spoke in binary, and accidently said a 2, what would happen?
Title: Re: PURELY out of curiosity...
Post by: OvermindDL1 on September 25, 2008, 08:32:09 PM
Then it would become a 10 (since 10 in binary is 2 :P ).

No where near.  I am just a trivia hunter, I know a little bit about everything, and everything about nothing. :)

Well, there are only 10 types of people in the world...

Those that understand Binary, and those that don't.

Not at all, I literally used a Firefox extension that I have had for quite a while to generate that for me in a few seconds.  Anyone could have done it.  Heck, Steeveeo probably has the same extension since the format was identical for the binary. :P

No.  I really do not know quite a bit, and I state so very often in real life.  Just what most people talk about here happens to be what I already know a bit about.
