I'm in an OT mood, and have always wondered where people get the inspiration for their unusual or crazy nicknames.
My nick was inspired by my initials: B.S.
I am a Computer Wiz according to family and friends, and people I was dealing with online at the time I picked the nickname.
Combine that with an 8 letter limit on usernames in the place I was registering at..........
My nickname just kinda popped in out of nowhere, I think it originated in a joke email to my brother 8 years ago....
My nick is my last name backwards with a 1.
The first time I did anything online that needed a user name was when my friend introduced me to Runescape (it was literally brand new). He used Rentep1 as in Petner, so hence Nielk1 was born.
My bro used Rettro (cause he thought it was neat and he spelled it wrong) and then made another named Rettro Jr. Now everything is Rettro Jr.
I originally picked "Total Oblivion" for when I first started playing multi-player games (which started with BZII, IIRC). I was quite young then, probably twelve.
I picked "Total" to mean complete, without exception. And "Oblivion" for anonymity, unknown, forgotten, undefinable, etc.
The "Omnis" part came a year or two later after I had taken an absence from playing online for going to grade school. It's a Latin word that means: all, everywhere; as in omnipotent, all-powerful; omnipresent. It really was emphasis for my anonymousness, plus I thought it added a nice touch to the name.
I've come up with another name which is related, but I can't and won't post it anywhere, since it's my gmail address. It's intended for business only, and hopefully it'll, at least slightly, improve my chances (or at least not worsen) of getting an interview.
My nick was always bogie at school, so I just added bigbad to the front for fun... despite the fact that I am indeed big and bad.
We were brainstorming for a name for our band. My friend, our bass player, was a floor installer at the time and mentioned a hard to lay floor called Axeminister. We used it as our band name. Now the band is gone but I still use the name online. I introduced our bass player to bz2 and he plays 1.2 strats under the nick JudgeMental, which is the name of one of my brothers old bands.
Judge!!! Good guy :)
My nickname started like the first 2 weeks I played Battlezone II in 1.1. It started out as "the feared one", pretty much the same day it was "the feared 1", and finally "Feared_1" sort of took place less than a week later. Not very interesting, but oh well :)
I got a lot of crap for this nickname, like "HEY!! I'M NOT SCARED OF YOU!!!", and people changing their in game nicks to "Feared_2(-9, pick a number), "Angry_1", "Scared_1", "Super_1", "Deranged_1", etc.
EDIT: For BBB :)
Deranged_1.
Retarded_1.
Addicted_1.
Annoyed_1.
Bleached_1.
Hungry_1.
Drunk_1.
Twenty_1.
Arrested_1.
Detested_1.
Molested_1.
I love dragons and my favorite color is black.
I am normally just BlackDragon or BlackDragon N001 if the first is taken. But when I finally got BZ2, I figured i'd add the word General in front since I had played BZ1 for so long. I chose it when I first started up the game, stuck ever since.
mine is my name said with a severe lisp... with The added in front, as in 'the definitive one'
i was thinking about a nickname change? i dont like it anymore...
I'm actually not sure WHY I used this nickname..... it had something to do with finally finding this site and registering.
Mine comes from the BZ1 days, when I was connecting using something called Heat.net that had avatars. My avatar was this guy with a melty, carbuncled face....I looked at it and my mind drew a medical book around it with the caption "Acne Vulgaris".
I was constantly getting beat up in DM by teenagers, and I figured Acne Vulgaris was the thing they feared most in life. It was kind of weird when I was having lan parties, people calling me Acne. I got used to it though, and would probably respond to that name if I heard somebody call it out.
You could probably get a lot out of my nick name.
My old school everyone would call me squirrel because I can run, climb trees, ladders, etc. really fast.
Those of you who know my last name.. There was a nickname "limb" people call me at my new school. See if you can figure out why they picked "limb"
your good at limbo?
You climbed a tree, crawled out too far on a tree limb, and it broke?

NOICE! I play strats with judge almost every night, he's a rather fun guy to play with/against.
Anyways, I got into Armored Core games and liked creating mechs and giving them names. I made up a bunch of grandiose compound names for them like 'zero angel', 'magnum hawk', 'shadowflare' etc. then it struck me ZA is a damn cool name because zero is the mathematical equivalent of none, it can be used to represent a single infinitely small point of space, it can also have other definitions. If it is combined with the word "Angel" it gives it several different meanings. So i started using it ever since. :)
I used to be a map creator in RA2: Yuri's Revenge. When I started making maps, they commonly included noobish, oversized civilian bases, so once I got better at map designing, I decided to take the name CivBase. I've used it ever since.
I've thought of so many good names since, but I am rather stuck with Nielk1. I occasionally 'stealth' under one of these names. Celestial Anomalies, ancient or unused words in combination, things like that. I played under "Angle of Creation" once as that is my .:]aRc[:. clan title.
armoured core! that was an awesome game back in the day!
Heck yeah! :-D The newer Armored Core games seem a little dry and unnecessarily complicated. Though some of the booster related features like vanguard overboost, bursting, and the ability to hover on water are kind of cool.
I have Armored Core, Project Phantasma, Master of Arena, 2, 2: Another Age, 3, 2: Silent Line, Nexus, Nine Breaker, and Last Raven.
ah i only have number one on the good old playstation....
if you could get a shoulder-mounted chain gun and the four hovering legs you were rockin!
For years I never had a nickname hence when I began using the internet a great deal (which coincided with my joining the BZ2 community) I started using JonathanS just my first name and the initial of my last name.
I used to play a lot of war games with my brother's and one day they had a mine field setup and buried in the woods (baloons with needles so if you stepped on it it exploded) and I walked through that whole place without setting off even one...and I didn't know they were there. My brother Nathan quipped, "Well, isn't he a lucky foot."
I started to use that one (hence I seem to have two names. :D )
I have always been able to fix pretty much anything, so I picked Red Devil.
I like cheese (bet you didnt guess that one) and i really like cheesepuffs, that was my theme for 6th grade "I like cheesepuffs"
Still, it had to have something unique to it, not just cheesepuff, so i added the ly to make it different. Cheesepuffly.
Sadly no one ever EVER sees the L they think im cheesepuffy, im not THERE IS AN L PEOPLE!
Giant (nasty) Cheetos.

Oh - like twisties.
Those are Cheese Doodles F1, Cheese Puffs are basically Cheese Balls. Same exact thing other than shape. I used to like them, but not so much lately. Then again I've also started using spices and eating more 'human' foods.

Nothing more human than a cheese snack.
Pasta, and vegemite sandwiches. That is my life summed up.

What about other humans :-o?
What about cheese made from human breast-milk?
Do they do that?
In Borat, yes.
Oppenheimer's thoughts upon seeing the Trinity blast wandered to the Bhagavad Gita where Vishnu is trying to persuade the prince that he should do his duty, and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form, and says, "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds.". Text a bit later in the Hindu poem describes Vishnu as this: "If the radiance of a thousand suns / were to burst into the sky / that would be like / the splendour of the Mighty One". Sounds rather like a nuclear blast to me... I was impressed by the reference and hence the name.
Oh, so they're still nasty cheesy things.
My friend wanted me to pick a nickname for him. I wasn't in front of the computer, so I reached over and typed "Distructor" (you know, as in one that destroys things), misspelled it, and came up with "Districtor". He's been using that ever since.

Awesome...
Remove the cheese from inside the black olives and remove the ham and pineapple (they don't go on pizza, and the olives ontop I can just eat them separately). and I would likely eat that. Extra cheese looks good but only if they finish melting it.
I really like cheese.

Omg, I love cheesepuffs too (Cheetos is a good one).
Hmm, the word 'technoid' is somewhat common, though not quite generic, and generally means someone who is knowledgeable of high tech stuff (computers, electronics, music, etc). It is almost certainly a slang of 'tech nerd'. There is also a cartoon of it by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, which I've used before as an avatar here. Also, it is used to title someone who is into electronica music (mostly the kind you dance to), which coincidentally I am into also, beginning with the Amiga/C64/PC Soundtracker-type mods, although I've been into general electronic music (where electronica is a sub-genre of it) for over 25 years. For example, Wikipedia classifies 'technoid' as powernoise music. I believe I began using 'technoid' when I was heavily playing Quake II 1998-2001 online, as a ~250ms ping HPB. I was affiliated with a Q2 clan for a shortwhile, hence technoid{NBK}. Hah, others thought I was cheating when my skills were roughly the same as a LPB (I played through dialup for 8 years, just got fiberoptic broadband a couple years ago). When I first began BZII, I believe I used 'Lt.Cmr.techie' ingame and in BZ2 forums (Pandi's included), eventually going back to the name 'technoid' here after the last 1-2 forum crashes of BZUniverse. Sometimes I'll play BZ2 online when I have the time, but I just go by the name 'tech'. And I still play Quake2 from time to time, though I use one of my nicknames in real life: Bob. :)
Bring back the flik avatar! :-D

Wow im wuving alot of people to day.
Mine is a little noobish seeing as it relates to BZ2 but oh well. Wish i could change it to
Defiant Sniper
.
Oh, yes, and as for reasons behind my new nick:
1) It's a lot shorter and a lot easier to communicate (althought there are easier names)
2) It's more unique (almost totally unique, though it does have its latin derivatives (again, as with my previous nick).
3) Sounds cooler, but more like an actual name than a description.
etc. etc....
4. Works with Jabber...
