Hey, I bought a copy just last weekend! Wasn't new, but it proves that BZ2 can still be bought.
Can indeed!
Mostly second hand stylee though. although there is a company called 'sold-out software' that sell the classics.
My copy of BZII was bought like a legend, accidentally found it in a shop for £2. didnt have the money at the time, so i traded my 'Porsche Challenge' PS1 game for it! best thing i ever did.
I've got one of them... kinda. I don't think Sold Out ever did BZ2, wasn't it xplosiv and Empire Interactive that did that?
I got it for my 13th birthday back in 2000, and was amazed by the graphics. I was also amazed by the great fps after I bought a brand new computer with a state of the art TNT2 graphics card. :-D
Cool, in 2000 I had BZ2 running off of a (then) rather good Win98/Athlon/256MB/TNT2 rig -- It was a rather immersive graphical experience, compared to other games at the time.
I'm still amazed by BZ2's graphics, given that it runs on the same engine as BZ1 - I think
Nope, BZ2 does not use BZ1's graphics engine. It's closest to the Dark Reign II graphics engine, though they diverged at least a year before BZ2 shipped.

I don't know about Empire Int., but I bought a backup copy of BZII from Xplosiv off the shelf at Frys Electronics a few years ago. And they do not sell BZII (nor BZI) anymore, not since a year after I bought my copy.
The graphics engine of DR2, the logic of BZ1, and bits of various other code from DR2, BZ1, and something called Interstate '76.
Okay, this really needs to be split into a new topic... done. :P
How many here bought their copy new (as in, within a few months of the games release and actually 'new')?

used book store in 2003
I dont think i had pocket money when it first came out :P
i had the demo! my uncle gave it to me on a PC magazine disc. i LOVED it. thought the graphics and everythign was amazing. the demo was such a good teaser. lost that shortly after though :(
Then i got the game a few years ago, loved it, tried to mod but couldnt. Then i found the bzuniverse and bz2md sites. and as they say, the rest is history.
Mine is a great hand-me-down.
One of my Dad's co-workers gave him BZ1 and he got addicted immediately.
After passing that he bought BZ2 and after passing the campaign handed it to me as at the time our internet sucked.
Hell, he sees me online today and is AMAZED how long we've kept it alive. The only reason i found the community was alive was that I found 1.2 servers when I FINALLY clicked "multiplayer" tab. That sent me looking for the patch and here I am. :P

I was wondering who had made me a new thread... got confused for a minute, though I was sure I'd posted this
inside a topic...
*wave to Warfreak's Dad* :D
I was introduced to BZ2 by a friend of mine called Tom... he moved house before I got my copy, and when I eventually found him I gave him a disk with FE on... don't know if he ever got into it, though. Hey, you never know, he could be one of you lot! :P
How's about that for wishful thinking?
u can dl the demo like....i dunno, alot of places. Hehe

Who is warfreak's dad anyways? Maybe i've played with or against him...
Fry's Electronics somewhere around 1999/2000, then 6 years later I bought my extra copy (which is still unused) at Fry's Electronics and it's from xplosiv.
well Axeminister pwns all, he bought TWO copies :D
Oi! So did I!
Mine was rather new when I got it. Must have been within a few months of release. I had never heard of it, and it was in with a bunch of other not so well selling games in an improvised flea market in a warehouse like store where they carry the overstock of things that didn't sell well. Early 2000 likely. I was modding by the 3rd day, granted, I could not do much.
I'd never heard of such things as mods until a couple of years ago... so naive...
yeah, anybody know how to get umlauts over stuff?
I got two copies as well (well, I have one copy now).
The first I got from EB Games back in '99 or '00. The copy disappeared and I've yet to find it, but I had since gotten a new copy from Amazon (I think I got it there, but I'm not positive).
well im lucky i copied mine onto another disc.
my original disc broke and has a huge crack in it, i keep it for sentimental value. but i wouldnt have been happy if i wasnt able to re-install!
I picked up BZ2, "Hey, they made a 2nd one?!"
I got mine in a pack with Sin, Quake 2 and Heavy Gear 2. It's a damn good pack, I think I got it from Staples?
50p from a garden centre. Lol.

My dad has never played online and if he ever were to he would make a good strat'er and a terrible dm'er.
I got mine completely by accident.
I originally bought bz1 from kmart. I had just gotten a new computer and was dying to get some new stuff to try.
I saw bz1 in amongst about 20 other old games, wasn't too sure about it but went and got it nonetheless. Best decision of my life.
I played it so many times that I virtually never did anything else.
Then I found the bz2 demo online and got it. It took me months of searching to finally find the game. I eventually got it when I was on holiday on the Gold Coast.
I just randomly asked the guy behind the counter of the local ebgames and he said that he had it in an old pile.
Then after I got home I went back to the same kmart where I had gotten bz1 and of course I found 20 copies of bz2 on the front shelf!!
Oddly enough I got mine almost like Skynet but the pack had Dark Reign II instead of Sin. Ah... Best memories of DR2 and BZ2..
*enters dream-like state*
I once had 2 copies when the game was still relativly new, but lost them. After a good search I did find an adres where I can 'new' copies for some pretty old games. However these people ask almost more for their copies than they where 8 years ago ..... (collectors item?)
Anyone that is interested in a new copy of the game just drop me a note and I'll try to retrace my own steps and get you the adress of that company, do note that that company is in the Netherlands.
lets see, i played bz1 demo from a teaser disk from pc world magazine, took me all of 2 minutes to fall in love with the game.
later on (i dont remember when) i bugged my dad to get bz1 for me, i still have the cd, box, origional manual (awesome manual by the way, more should be like that) etc... i ended up rushing home from school to play online almost every day :)
what, 2 years later? i went to a computer show at CCRI Knight campus in warwick RI, i can remember EXACTLY where i found the game, it was on a long table of just computer software/games etc... no boxes, just the cd case. bought the thing for 15 bucks, best purchase ever!
Mine came with my dads old computer. Just found it on a shelf somewhere. Installed it. First time i installed it, everything seemed weird so i uninstalled it. Tried it again, then i loved it. Sadly i let one of my friends borrow it, and they made a hole through the middle of the disk

Umm, Isn't there already a hole in the middle? :-)
Isn't there supposed to be a hole in the middle of discs?
Damnit.. you beat me..

Anyhow, I got my copy of BZ2 for my Birthday. I got it because I got BZ1 for my last birthday and had finished it 10 times
Sup Ceiling_Paint
I got my copy from my buddy ol' ceiling paint here back in the middle school days. Dang that seems like a long time ago... Anyway he showed it to me on his laptop [lol windows ME right], blasting things away with the walker and I fell love with it. I still have the original copy he made me of the game.
Played it online back in my dialup days and I never could get how to hover with the scouts quite right and ceiling_paint always whooped me pretty bad even if I got gun towers up because he could hover higher than anything could shoot. I wasted away so much time playing that game, custom maps, instant action battles with HUNDREDS on each side, forgotten enemies, the good old ISDF.
I still love this game because FPS+RTS games like this are few and far between, one of the few being STALKER shadow of cherobyl, and I love them. It's crazy to see a pretty strong community for this game still up and running after all these years. Hope this game never dies!

Im not that stupid. Fine, its like the took a knife and cut the top from the bottom.
I thought you might have been joking...
I lent one of my copies to the friend who introduced me to BZ2... along with a disk with all the mods hed never discovered on. Don't think he ever got it working again.

Thats an Idea. Have the original BZ2 install + all the BZ2 mod installs on a CD. A mega BZ2 CD.
i found my copy on the side of the road all scratched up when i was 5-7 years old and i had it for about 2 years before i could play it cause we needed to repair it
