I just got my new laptop PC that runs on Vista home and its 64 bit and i was able to install all versions of BZ2 exept for 1.3pb3 and when im playen any other version my ~ key stops working so i cant use ctrl + ~ to get into the command line. Does any1 know of this or have a fix
not a clue. mine works fine though...
then again. i didnt run 64-bit
I'm having the same problem:
Laptop
Vista 64-bit
Battlezone2 US

Thanks for that info. I'll look into it.

Nope its an HP Pavilion DV5-1014CA (I think)
i tried redoing the 0x29 thing in the game prefs to Z key and it did nothing and to use F10 on my pc i dont know if any1 else has this problem i need to hold ctrl + F10
whats the best keyboard setting to use with BZ2
also once u move a unit to the F10 slot with ctrl + F# u cant get it back out
I use vista, but its not a laptop nor is it 64 bit, and it seems to run fine, except when i use the F10 key i lags a little bit (not really annoying)
also when u select a group of units u cant use ~ to select 1 of the units in the group
As far as keymapping goes. Is there a way to 'grab' the key to find out its character code for BZ2?
Just google keycode, or scancode... whichever one it was that BZ uses...

i think its cause laptops have different key boards like the smaller 1s have not as much keys so they fit and the bigger 1s have more buttons cause they fit, and the F 10 problem is only in 1.3 for me.
i cant even rotate buildings
its not the key board i tried a normal key board and it was the same, i think it is 64 bit OS that is the problem
Yeah, my brother's computer has the same issue. He has the 32 bit version of Vista, but he has a tv receiver in his comp that allows him to watch television on his comp. I believe it is that capability that bz2 doesn't like. No matter what keyboard you plug in, bz2 will not recognize the ~ key.
the F10 key works in patches 1.2 and down
~ key doesnt work i any and i tried putting it a Z and it did nothing, i also cant rotate buildings, and split groups
it is not the keyboard layout cause i tried a ton and it doesnt do any thing, a new keyboard wont do anything, i installed MS keyboard layout maker and made my own and that didnt work either
I think it has to do with 64 bit OS's, is there any other thinks that might help

I tried my old PC keyboard and it did nothing, I don't a TV receiver on my laptop but it can hook up to the TV if u want to play on a bigger screen. I think it might have to do with vista and hot keys that laptops have because they take away buttons on keyboards to make it fit. I can't find the hot keys options tho, and that wouldn't make seance for the F10 key problem cause it works in all versions except for 1.3 versions so the F10 key problem is a change in the 1.3 patches.
Lol, I'm so glad my TV has a VGA port on it
My brother's PC is not a laptop and it has the same issue. I doubt the keyboard has anything to do with the ~ key not working in bz2.
Confirmed.
Have set my locale to English (US), keyboard layout to US, and am using a generic external keyboard. The problems still persist.
As I mentioned before, i'm running a laptop with Vista 64-bit.
One point: although the UI shows ~, that's wrong. BZ2 looks for the ` (grave, == backtick) keystroke. ~ is more obvious as to what key it is, for a standard US-English-104key keyboard. But, on said keyboard, to type a ~, you need to hit shift-grave. BZ2 doesn't require the shift action, which would be needed if it actually was ~. It's not. It's `.

Somehow I knew SOMEONE was gan'na point that out...
we are having some of the same type of problems using mac computers f1 to f10 . not finished yet . going to try other things.
I think BZ2 needs a keyboard up-date to the newer keyboards, or a DL fix if you have the problem u DL and extract.
BZ2 patches are released when I want, with the contents that I want. There's no guarantees that any future patches to BZ2 will ever be delivered. I'd say that there are plenty of other bugs that are more important than this, and that you should be complaining to MS, because this is a compatability issue caused by updates on their end.. Just like nVidia should be whined to because their latest cards break DX6.
Also, while I was given a free copy of Vista Ultimate (32-bit) a year ago by MS, I've never bothered to install it. That should tell you what I think of that OS.

that solves the ` key problem but still not the F10 key problem, F10 key problem only happens in the 1.3 patches so i know its not update related, its 1.3 patch related
Anyone else having problems with the "teamchat" hotkey? AKA the single/double quotation key?
My brother's computer does have issues with those keys too. The keys I could tell were affected were the ~ and " keys.
My personal computer doesn't have any issues with input. I'm thinking it is due to either a specific driver that is running or the version of windows. My brother has Vista with Media Center. I'm thinking either Media Center is the cause or the drivers/hardware for my brother's remote control for the computer, which he doesn't even have the controller for.
is your PC a laptop or desk top and is ur brothers a laptop? i also have the " key, just noticed
Both my computer and my brother's computers are desktops.
Mine is a homebuilt system and my brother's is a Gateway.
wat does all our PC's having the problem have in common common?
Nobody likes vista: http://xkcd.com/528/ (http://xkcd.com/528/).

Wow! That is wrong, yet so funny at the same time.
i fixed my F10 problem by finding the hotkey and mine was for blue tooth adapter thing and now its gone, try to find hotkeys for `/ ~ and '/ "
man no wonder all my freinds are going to mac (this is an understatement in view of mac sales compared to pc recently in my area in aust)
"Well, it's better than Vista."
"True"
The key issues Data has doesn't only happen on Vista. I have seen someone using Windows XP Media Center Edition report the same issue. He had to disable his remote control for media center to get bz2 to recognize those keys, if my memory is correct.

The above link can only be accessed by 1.3 beta testers but GSH may find it useful. I'll post the pertinent info here.

RD, you were close. I got it working by unplugging the infrared remote for my PC remote for the Media Center remote control. After a reboot my keyboard now works in game (so far). So I'll have to see if just unplugging the infrared works everytime.
Thanks for the link. I have a wired keyboard and mouse but used the remote for TV viewing. I'll play around more but very happy to have my whole keyboard back for BZ2.
Again, thanks guys for all the help.
If something on the system (e.g. bluetooth & F10, remote & `) decides that it gets permanent dibs on a key, before BZ2 can read it, then there's a problem. Such apps need to go back to preschool/kindergarten and learn to share.

I'm running XP Media Center, no problems with BZ2. Could be the remote, as I never had one.
BZ2 isn't the only game affected by this. The Fallout3 wiki has some more thoughts on this subject -- see http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_console_commands#Other_bugs (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_console_commands#Other_bugs) . Maybe this'll help.
