Im looking at both windows and they claim hybird window xp/vista can run on any old and new game without crash.Im not sure i trust them.I like to play on older and newer games with crossfire video card. The crossfire video card do better and safe than sli.right?
Come again?
Anyhoo, Windows 7 is the best if you're playing BZ. It utilizes all 4/6/8 cores if you have that kind of processor. If you have a single/dual core processor, I'd say XP is your best bet, cheap, fast, and doesn't use much RAM, and overall efficient.
I have to research this. Arby has been wrong so many times on so many things, but despite claiming he is the only computer nerd in his country, I have actually never heard him give computer advice. Might be good.
Still. BZ2 itself uses 1 core regardless, unless I missed a memo.
4 core intel chip,4 gb memory,4.0 overclock, killer nic 2,1 gb ati raden hd 4850 video card,2 tb hard dirve, hybird win xp/vista.Im going to buy it very very soon.I just need your help me to decide which window work best.Remember,Dx 10 can read on new game but cannot run on older game because the driver is different and crash a lot.

BZ2 1.3pb4a uses a pseudo "dual-core functionality" by having the ability to append Game, Networking, and Sound tasks to other cores.
Other than that, it's still mainly a single thread game.
I missed a memo...
With its 1.7 patch release, Company of Heroes became the first commercial DirectX 10-capable game. This meant it was now a hybrid game, looking for the player to choose which version of DirectX to use. Reactions to CoH in DirectX 10 mode were lukewarm. Performance took a hit partly because the game wasn't written for DX10 from the ground-up, and partly because DX10 is a significantly more complex technology than its predecessor. Tech-heads were forgiving because they were impressed with the extra features DX10 can offer a game (better lighting, particle effects, more grass, etc.) "Bottom-line" gamers were not so impressed because the frame rates dropped. As time marches on, more and more games will be written specifically for DX10, and in a year or two, it may feel pretty out of place to be running XP. We currently split the hard drives on our personal PCs into half, and switch between XP and Vista at will - it might be worth the extra money for you to drive on both sides of the street. If you just want one OS, and you care about performance more than anything else, go with XP. If you want to explore DX10, you'll need Vista.
How many of you use vista? How many of you use xp?
XP.
XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP XP
What, like 2 of us are on Vista (on the whole board).
I use a neudered version of Vista. (IOW: All the "stock" programs and safety measures are gone and replaced by more efficient and less nagging programs)
I personally RECOMMEND XP and used it on my older pc. Still in process of getting another HDD to put my games and XP on so I can dual boot when need arises.
xp on both pc's. And I use the Indeo codec on both pc's to play older games, like one of my fav's : Forsaken.
XP all the way. It's quite a light operating system, and though the older ones (95 through 2000) are lighter, they are occasionally less reliable (case in point: ME) and don't have some of the nice useful features.
Vista is one hell of a resource hog, and was really unreliable when it first came out cause Microsoft rushed it (we know what happens here... case in point: BZ2 1.0) but since the release of a Service Pack, it's improved dramatically, as friends of mine say.
Windows 7 I am not sure about, as the computer I intended to install it on has boot problems
If you're looking for XP, I would advise Home or Professional Editions, not Media Centre as it is heavy and has slowed my PC down quite a bit, and it used to be a pretty fast PC.
I have heard reports of systems with Linux-based systems like Ubuntu working really smoothly, and if you can afford it... hell, get a mac too. OS X may be unable to run a fair few programs Windows can, but there is a feature of it designed to allow you to dual-boot with XP.

you can google indeo codec and read about it.
i run vista. not through any choice of my own.
id revert to XP if i had the money to do it.
Still using XP, Personally I'm a bit disillusioned with the whole windows concept, I really only still use it because of bz2...
At some point in the future I intend to bid farewell to MS operating systems.
XP is still installed, although running Ubuntu primary now.

....wha? My dad has a quad core system on vista, it uses all of em, that makes no sense.
I use vista, but then again my computer can handle everything vista has on max and still have room to run all my games on the exact same settings as on my XP computer (which was fairly good)
I have the same graphics card, and thats mostly why i run em on the same levels.

Does it goes laggy while you are in game?
You guys know the vista is very new and it only between 1-2 yrs old while other popular win xp series(bit 32,64,pro)have been use in very long time.I see the chart of win user and notice vista is begin to grow popular. Its take awhile to use and they love it just like they first to use win xp.

Um are we talking internet connection to other players kind of lag, or grahpics card being overworked kind of lag?

Um are we talking internet connection to other players kind of lag, or grahpics card being overworked kind of lag?
Thaat is because the graphic card cant handle too many games?Do you have killer nic?I mean mmorpg and fps games is most common lag.
Yeah i dont lag, may have to give the graphic settings a few small tweaks, but i can run it on medium detail levels so im good.
There are various types of lag, though I find they can be put into three categories in most all cases (I am being generic here).
Server Lag, Net Lag, and Client Lag
Server Lag is when the server itself slows down for any reason (like in Garry's Mod, a HL2 mod, when Steeveeo's PC freezes for a few seconds and his video drivers go nuts and swap all his textures).
Net Lag has to do with net speed and distance. Both PCs may be fine, but the information is not getting to them correctly. To a Client this looks like Server lag, and to a Server this looks like Client Lag.
Finally Client Lag, a beast with two heads. Sometimes it is the same as Server Lag, only on the client machine (as such only that one player has the issue and not all), but in other cases the important information is still sent across the network/internet at the correct rate, and as such no one knows a client is apparently lagging. When this... pseudo-lag occurs, it is normally a lagging of user input or FPS.
How bout graphical lag?
Quote from: cheesepuffly on March 23, 2009, 08:26:30 PM
How bout graphical lag?
Client Lag type 2, unless it causes the PC itself to slow, then Client Lag type 1.
Eh, I missed this topic by a long shot, but for those of you who are looking for vista, but don't want all the loopholes and the crappyness, but still want xp with the vista look, I suggest Vista Insparat. hardly noticable, and easy to use, this small little bugger is safe (otherwise my comp'd be dead) and it works like a charm... get it at

This is a picture of some of the window borders and some new icons included, as of now i have heavily tweaked this, so your copy will be different, but will serve the same purpose
there are other brincopacks as well, but as a favorite is Vista Insparat, My own screenshot, wich can be seen below shows most of the other features avialble, such as a smaller taskbar and the such
NOTE: This is acutually XP, But has been heavily changed via the brincopack.
the tabbed dock at the top is Object Dock plus, it's $10 and there's a free version that does not have all features unlocked
with free/plus verison of object dock there are flyout menus, as i have shown below, and all sorts of goodies for you. There is absolutley almost no impact on speed of your computer.
get it at

You can put all sorts of "dockelts on there such as a flyout menu, as i have created in the image, It's all fun and games, takes absoultly almost no time to do.
I have decided that i will soon and thereafter be making posts on all of the goodies i have, Showing them off, But as well possibly helping you out
EDIT: Images soon
I notice that there are alot of errors in my typing, Deal with it for now.
Vista was the beta for Windows 7.
Bah, Well it was a buggy beta, What is the difference of windows7 and vista, As far as visuals go?
Supposedly Windows 7 will fix the bugs of Vista, and run better (resource sucking wise) than both Vista and XP
Yes.. i think i was lol
Fixed, feel free to delete this and purples comment.
I like Vista a lot, much prefer it over XP and never had any major problems, PC specs: AMD 9750 X4 2.4 GHz, 4GB OCZ 1066 MHz, Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT ECS overclocked, 2x 500 GB HDD's.
i use vista, my dad decided to get it, and it was a huge mistake. vista is so backwards uncompatable that it is horrible. the security systems are that of a red scare paranoid man that you need a everything short of proof of address, two city bills and photo id to do pretty much anything. which is why microsoft has rushed to create windows 7, because vista sucks...
