Title: Useful Mozilla Firefox Addons
Post by: Purplehaze on April 26, 2009, 12:53:07 AM
For those of you who use Mozilla Firefox, there are some very useful add ons I use/like a lot.

First, Let's start out with a base picture of my Firefox

(http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/7810/mozillamain.th.png) (http://img7.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mozillamain.png)

As you can see, I have a modified theme of firefox, as well as modified google page. Ill get into that later. for now, let's go over my most cherished Firefox Add ons:

Im sorry but I am currently not providing links to each of them Just search them Via this page. I am currently to lazy to post them individually

Search for the Add ons here

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

ADD ONS:

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

AdBlockPlus:

The name really kind of says it, it's an adblocker, all ads i have ever seen in my life have never been seen again, They are eyesores and also It increases page loading times as it modifys what Firefox loads from what websites and what it doesn't, It's a trusted and recomended application Via Mozilla. There is also a small addon that allows blocking of text advertisements, but i don't ever see any of these. For that addon, Search Adblockplus

GreaseMokey/Greasefire

Both of these are well made when put together and have good uses, Greasemonkey is a script user allow addon, that bascially in the bottom right hand corner of my firefox there is a nice button of a monkey, if you right click on this, you will find user scrpts made by millions of people who made a script. They are all safe and tested with everyversion of firefox. Theses scripts allow you to change sorts or stuff the way you want. you can even create your own.

Download Statusbar
This really is useful, When you go to open a download it just pops up on the lower toolbar of firefox, is useful for those who don't want to have that annoying downloads window, and also it shows more info like upload/downloadspeed in kb/s and ETA and % complete, It's a great little thing.

Firedownload
This little addon is great, it speeds up your downloads via Multi-source downloading, my connection is rather slowh so this helps me a ton when im looking to download BZII files and the sort

Fission
This one really is great, instead of down in the conrner when it's loading it'd be a small little thing and it'd say transfering from, Well, now it's in the address bar such as some of the other browsers (I forget the name)
This one is great, and it looks amazing with my theme that i will show later

Stylish
This one is awesome, and it's great for all those who are tired of the plain and old. This addon allows you to change the way the webpages look, without even having to referesh the page (this is how I got the silver google logo and the gray background) Millions of people have made styles for each page and all you have to do is select the one you want! It's easy and fast.

Get Themes the same way, by searching for Add ons Via this page

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

THEMES:
Aero Fox: this is the only one i use at the moment and I like, it can be seen in the image above It changes just about everything in firefox to look a ton better. I enjoy having this little buddy, and it looks great.

Extra: To retrive the Silver Google logo and the gray background, follow these steps

YOU MUST HAVE STYLISH INSTALLED:

1: Go to google (http://www.google.com/)

2: Click on the Stylish button in the bottom right corner

3: Click "Find Styles for this Page"

4: Click on the link that says "Google Search- Dark Grey UK,Aus&NZ, Canada, India." And scroll down, Click "Load Into Stylish"

5: repeat steps 1-3

6: Click on the link that says "Google Web Search - gray logo replacement (vC)" And scroll down, Click "Load Into Stylish"

And there you go, You have the new google, There are other themes, but this one is my favorite because it's easy on the eyes

I know that there are countless grammar mistakes, Deal with it.

Ah, as for that you will have to load into stylish
and then edit the script via clicking on the sytlish buttons, and clicking manage styles. Via there change all the urls to whatever URL you use.

I like these addons in addition to some of the above ones:

Vista-Aero Theme
I simply prefer it to the stock FF theme.

Cutemenus: Crystal SVG
Adds icons to almost every action on almost every menu, a nice little eyecandy addon.

Distrust
Adds an icon that you can click on that will put firefox into 'private browsing' mode, and all history items (history, cookies, downloads) will be erased when the mode is turned off. Useful if you go to adult websites and you don't want kids or other people getting into them.

All-in-one sidebar
Adds a very small left sidebar to firefox with icons for history, favorites, extensions, downloads, etc. When you click on the icon the sidebar expands to display the items. Makes it much easier to access these without having to open additional menus or windows.

Foxytunes
Allows you to control your media player from inside the browser, allowing you to change song, seek to a specific spot in the song, stop, pause, etc -- as well displays currently playing song. Its unobtrusive which is good.

I've got a whole chunk... I think I got a total of 50 addons installed. Some are junk, I'll post the ones I find very useful here.

FEBE
It's good if you're some kinda local "Fixer" like me. It basically makes a backup of your addons including itself into installable XPI files. Handy if your brother keeps watching pornography on your computer.

NoScript
Basically a strong safeguard. Blocks script and other malicious codes.

CookieSafe
Another safeguard. Blocks cookies. It used to have a "Clean Cookies" option to clear out any tracking cookies... I don't think it does now...

McAfee SiteAdvisor
Your guide into websites. I kinda like this since I tend to be able to visit many websites and let them past NoScript but this tell me if it's safe or not.

Cooliris
This makes it eye-friendly to search.

CustomizeGoogle
So that's why I don't see any ads by Google anymore...

Update Notifier
Just so that you get the latest stuff to patch security holes...

Gmail Notifier
Useful only if you use GMail.

FoxClocks
BZ2 has people from all over the world. GSH in LA, Dat in Canada, me in Singapore... This makes keeping time easy.

TabRenamizer
Just in case you guys need privacy...

Fire.fm
It kinda gives you some music from a certain artist or song that you searched on it. Make sure you don't search "Rick Astley"...

ChatZilla
For you IRC-ers that want lightweight IRC programs.

And, the good old Red Shift V3!
