Okay, so I'm trying to get a completely-up-to-date install going, and here's what I'm doing:
I install a fresh BZII, CD install, no mods.
I run BZ2_v13TechAlpha5_english-rc3.exe, selecting the proper directories and so forth.
I then run bz2cp_full.exe, selecting the proper directories etc.
Then, I follow the instructions to the letter in the readme of 2005-10-23 RevD Gold.zip, extracting it properly.
Lastly, I extract properly (following the directions contained within) the contents of Complete FE Map Pack Version 4.zip.
All the files were downloaded from http://www.valler.com/bz2/
I'm running a Vista Home Premium box with NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS graphics card, 3 gigs of ram, 640 gigs of harddisk space. If it makes any difference, I've got a Fedora Core 8 partition as well.
All the installer things go just fine, no errors there. When I go to start the game, it plays the "Activision" intro clip, which I press esc to skip. Then, it sort of freezes and I can alt+tab to get to a message box. I press OK, another pops up, and I OK it. Then, I get the error log message box thing:
Here's the error message log thing that I get:

It says it is "Unable to execute a required file 'bzshell_multi_warn_badping.cfg". Does this mean I need this file (if so, where to get it?), or is the problem more insidious?
That's the 1.2 version. Try the "FE For PB3" version in the archives at the top of this board. There's a new version for TA5+ coming out later.
All that FE stuff is only compatable with patch 1.2. There is a version that is being worked on, highly anticipated by all, by Red Devil for patch 1.3. But he isn't done.
Wow, been a while since I've been back to these forums. Sounds like some cool stuff happening with the TA5 update. Just want to say thanks to the people who worked on the patch! I'll have to start coming around more.

Edit* Sorry thought I had responded to another post, my response is kinda off topic in this thread.
Thanks for the help! I'll probably play my old FE install in the meantime, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for that 1.3 FE patch.
Trust me, you're better off using the 1.3 version. Much more stable, no duplicate assets, etc.
Does it fix the bug in mission 3 where the enemy never sends the big attack wave thing? 'Cause I'm currently going 2 hours with a completely stable base and no sign of the attack that wiped me out the previous attempt. I read back through some threads in another spot here, and apparently it's a bug that comes and goes between attempts, but I'd rather not abandon this attempt if there's a way to fix it.
P.S. Thanks for putting up with all my nooby questions! :-)
I think it does, though I never had that issue in 1.2 anyway...
hi there :)
i'm trying to get my FE to work.

Really getting FE to work in 1.3ta5 is the job of a modder.
Then that modder can share with others.
Looks like an incompatible shell to me. You install FE for PB3 or FE for 1.2?
Remember to always read the opening few posts in a thread to see if those help with your problem, it saves you the time and us the annoyance of when they do and you didnt read them.
