Independence Day.
Now, before you start disagreeing, consider what we saw in the film:
At the end of the film, nations around the world had their hands on alien technology, which can be studied and reverse engineered to find out how to make use of it. What technology? ...let's see:
-Biomechanical armors. I assume their ships could be also made of biometal.
-Plasma cannons used by alien attackers.
-Vehicles that can hover or fly without a combustion engine. Yes, I know in the game the use propulsion similar to jet planes, but they seem to hover on their own, maybe using some electromagnetic technology.
-Some APC's can be seen in the background when they enter the alien mothership.
-Scion shields!
The plot could develop from the point the movie ended. Humans pretty much went back to fighting each other, when scientists discover the strange features on the metal the alien ships and weapons were made of. The metal is discovered to have some sort of metallic DNA signature in it, which can be modified to forge different vehicles and weapons, by just adding "raw" biometal to a biometal piece imprinted with this metallic DNA. It would work exactly as in the game, where biometallic objects distribute the damage evenly around the whole object, and can be "healed" by shooting a sort of plasmic repair biometal to them, just like a service truck does in the game, or the way a constructor, carries the blueprints for structures, determines the one to use and starts shooting biometal imprinted with the design specs in the metallic DNA.
The plot could go on just like the first Battlezone, with humans going into space looking for more biometal, fighting each other for supremacy, and ultimately joining together to fight a common enemy: the Furies, leaving the Scions, Hadeans or even Cthonians for subsequent sequels. Yeah, I thought of that too.
I really wish it could be made into a movie, but I don't think it could be marketed as an ID4 sequel, so people might feel cheated or let down, but I am sure a lot of people in the BZ community would love to see this happening. I hope somehow an awesome hollywood director (i.e. Christopher Nolan) gets to read this and develops it into a kickass movie.
Rod, the Dark Mage.
P.S.:Bumblebee cries?...damn you, Michael Bay!
Ummm... So you're saying we should make a BZ movie? Sweet, no reputation though so I can't do anything.
There's always this: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/07/universal-plans-to-bring-asteroids-to-theaters.ars (http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/07/universal-plans-to-bring-asteroids-to-theaters.ars) . At least a lot of people recognize the name 'asteriods'.
As I've said before: to be successful, a movie needs to attract a lot of audiences. Just because you might want to see a Battlezone movie doesn't help much. Answer this question: what would make your parents pay money to see a Battlezone movie in theaters? And your sister? Cousins? I don't know the answer to those questions, but the person who does will be able to make a BZ movie. If you don't answer those questions successfully, please don't push for a BZ movie. Because a BZ movie done poorly will guarantee there will not be another chance.

Chances are if there was a battlezone movie, it would be based on the 1980s game and not off of Battlezone I or Battlezone II.

There is an enemy. Shoot him. Look. A saucer. Shoot it. Oh, no, a rocket. Shoot it fast.

My intention was to show how a BZ movie could be developed, and/or how to evolve ID4's dead end plot. My tone was more like "it would be nice if...", not "they better make it or I start killing people", I was not pushing for it. Anyway, give it to Paul Verhoeven (Starship Troopers), Roland Emmerich (ID4) or Michael Bay (Transformers). They'll turn anything into a summer blockbuster, as long it has lots of explosions and nonstop action. :-D.
BTW, I want to personally thank you for BZ2 and all the recent patchwork. I don't think you and Ken get thanked enough.

Yeah...what do you mean the 80's game? there wasnt even a real story it was a arcade game. it would be sort of like making a pacman movie.
Yes, I think a bunch of those top-named directors would probably do a good, if not great job at making a summer blockbuster based (loosely) on Battlezone. But, why would they want to work on a BZ film? The top directors have their pick of a ton of projects, can name their terms, and basically do what they want. There's a ton of IPs (Intellectual Properties) out there. They can do a sequel to something they made, and it'll generally do really well. So, why would they work on BZ? Why would they spend 1-3 years of their life on such a project? They've made a reputation for themselves, and jumping on an obscure IP could damage their track record. That's why 2nd or 3rd rate directors have taken on videogame movies.
Once again, I've got no good answers for these questions. But the person who does has answer them well has a good chance at coming up with something good.
