I recently created a map for MPI, IA and ST for the TA5 E-Pack, and i placed two Megas in the map on different sides.
Now my problem is, i have no real strategies for taking them out. I lost about 2000 units worth of scrap trying to flood it with lighter units so heavier ones could come in and do some damage, but they all got wiped out in seconds.
When playing as stock scion, anyone have any tips for taking the things out? That arn't expensive and time consuming :D?
By the way:
game.cheat bzbody
game.cheat bztnt
game.cheat bzfree
are NOT viable options :P
i used this: 2 players and 5 heavy sabres.
the heavy sabres send in, distraction while the two players get in close and circle/shoot right against it.
A mauler rush can work if the terrain is mostly flat and you position them carefully so that they don't have to queue up to get a shot in. Follow them in yourself in a titan plus healers to make sure it dies.
A human piloted archer can be as effective as a Sabre MDMing targets. You can also strategically place AI archers on higher ground around said target and tell them to hold pos, if target is in range they will begin motarizing it.
10 Mortar bikes plus your tank. You get in close and circle while it is busy with the M-Bikes. You might loose the bikes but they are cheap and often they do the job themselves.
I agree with the mauler idea. I think maulers can "stack" on each other similar to rocket tanks and assault tanks to where only one will get a shot at a time, but 5-6 can be sitting there all close together.
if you can take the time to micro manage the maulers apart a few feet each, then send them all in together and hope they all are wide enough apart to where they all can shoot... it may work.
I would be very fearful of a single or dual tower that could take out a full squadron of strategically placed maulers before the maulers did anything at all.
The problem i had was sending in lancers. They got hung up on each other, and funelled into the mega statues area. the splash damage was so great that everything died nearly straight away.
The new scion gorgon in my variant pushed through on its own, but didn't quite get close enough to do any real damage.
Definitely place 3 archers on a hill the correct distance away. They don't need to be given a target to fire at closest thing.
On maps which have the slug, I simply try to range it with the slug. Its very tricky to do but still possible and possibly the easiest way to take one of these beasts down.
My strategy is to pilot a mortar bike while having a group of 10 ai mortar bikes follow me. I get in close and start circle strafing the mega statue as fast as I can. While the mega statue is distracted by me and unable to hit me, I send in my ai mortar bikes to mortar it to death.
Do scions even get mortar bikes in your E-pack?
Scions already have mortar bikes. They're called Archers.
Nope... wouldn't be a good idea adding mortar bikes to scions lol...
they get Heavy Archers in my variant though.
If your by yourself its gonna be harder. I do 3 things
1. Have a real person get in a mortar bike (For ISDF) or a very fast unit for scion. Have the fast unit circle strafe the statue at about 299m to 200m - the mega statue has a maximum range of about 300m. Then once the mega statue is preoccupied with the fast unit, send in heavier units to kill it the mega shouldnt focus on the heavier units they should only take some damage from stray drones, the blast that the mega shoots shouldnt be able to hit you because you are moving too fast too far away and the missiles arc isnt tight enough to hit you.
2. Use mortars. the MDM mortar has a range beyond 300m if you consider the bouncing i think its about 350m just bomb it to pieces with the MDM, or if your scion use archers. set a nav right on the mega statue so you can see it if you are beyond visual range and loose a few ranging shots. Once you get a hit keep firing until you drop the statue.
3. Use slugs. The slug has a range of just beyond 300m so if you can set a nav on the statue so you know how far you are from it and get to about 301m. If it attacks you at that range scoot back a little and then try at 302 the slugs should be able to hit it.
4. Suicidal rush with lots of assault tanks, walkers, maulers, titans, rocket tanks, and even the kitchen sink. -The messiest solution
I most enjoy a team of capable players that take them out in a coördinated attack. However when alone or whenever a coördinated attack doesnt work/get launched I often send in 2 Atanks or a Walker, as soon as they get hit I get in myself and while circeling the statue I shoot it with my Heavy Sabre (with a plain sabre its a bit harder ..).
By the way. MEGA STATUES AUTO REPAIR so dont count on hitting it once, then waiting ten minutes to make another army. At least they always auto repaired on me on surprise
Stay away and have a couple of thugs MDM the hell out of it?
That is what we always do. It makes it too easy I reckon.
i used a saber and ran circles around it, anything short of a track vehicle can circle it..
commando used his saber, and with cannons killed it fast
if you are alone and or want to do it faster run circles around it, and send 20 bikes after it
Use a couple of good players in sp+chain sabres. Throw in mortar bikes for good measure and the statue is as good as done. So long as the mortar bikes don't hit the human players by accident. :-o
Got in a sniped warrior yesterday and drove right up to the MT, targeted it, and then Infro leveled it with Archers. Scrap beasts kept chasing me around it while it was being killed, too.
I always kill mega statues with heavy sabre, just put phantom VIR on so it can't target you so goodly, then just go close to it and run circle around it, and fire it (usually i ran out of ammo so i send a few mtr bikes to help :-D) Usually it hits you 1-2 times... Though i always lose my sabre when the mega blows up
i would suggest sending in some assault tanks to hit it from the distance while you go in with some sabers for some close up action. Also, and i don't if this could work, but if there are no obstacles obstructing a perfect circling, you could use the speed of a shadower armed missile scout to keep ahead of the blast. I did something similar during an isdf vs. isdf Battle when i went up against three assault tanks and it took the three of them a while before they hit me because of the speed of my misslie scout. shadower missile's can do a good amount of damage on well armored craft. and if i remember correctly i woon that little skirmish with the help of some tanks.
