I was just looking through some old files and stumbled over this.
It is a test map for an old QF Mod mission that was going to be set on a moving train.
Any modders who are interested can download it here: http://www.filefront.com/14147233/Train_Mission.7z/
I thought that the way it works is kinda cool...
lol, glad you didnt put this in... one of my missions were on a train as well :D...
EDIT: That is FREAKIN good. Shame theres no mission .dll, could have been a bonus mission , even bigger shame about the occasional jumping cliffs =[
Still, the train model is pretty cool. Nice and simple, it reminds me of a map from unreal tournament so much.
AHadley - SDM map with some work?
Hell yeah, I'll go and give it a spin in a bit.
Hmm, a train map, now I won't be able to sleep tonight unlees I try it out.... :-D
Wait, oh boy, it's filefront!
Works though.
i cant seem to download it, Internet explorer EXPLODES when ever I try to do so, jamhs send it over msn please?
sure thing. itsn othing exciting... moving cliffs and a static train :P

It's only a concept map.
I think it's friggin' exciting. But that might be my custom background music and all the and all the bad guys I put on the train.
lol, i must say its very good fun...
The same concept could be used for a battle on a star ship.
how so?
I just thought you might be able to. I haven't actually downloaded the map so I'm not sure, but am I correct in saying that there is a sort of moving landscape and a permanent train that your in? If so You could replace the landscape with stars and space and the train with the interior of a spaceship.
True...
So instead of a train its a more complicated model mimicking the inside of a ship, multiple stories with corridors and rooms like med bays and engineering, but I'd have it so where looking out of the windows greets you with the view of cliffs zooming by as you blast down a valley at ~2000 km/h.
Even more epic if the cliffs tilted and pitched to make it look like the ship was turning and ducking and diving now and then. Basically a stupidly long animation sequence xD Only issue is 3rd person view would probably reveal all.
I'm evil.
DO IT, NOW. (I've never done (nor do I have a program that can do) animation) If you get the cliffs going I might consider banging a structure together. You're texturing it though :P
The animation could be more smooth.
@Raven: Your idea is VERY doable, however only the bits before you saying to put in twists and turns... unless you want it to turn and dip every 2 seconds. :|

I was rather new to animation back then.

Not true. It could be a very long and complex animation.
you could always use computer class windows...
Until you shift F3..
DLL could force you back into F1 if you want. I am messing with the system used on this map to handle my moving space carrier maps. Using the correct settings creates an interesting effects as you land a ship in a hanger going from in front of it but it moving a tad faster to inside where suddenly you 'inherit the ship's velocity'.
Hmm. Could this make dropship landings seem more realistic?
I had a whole system of dropship landings where you moved at the same speed as the dropship in QF2.
I know exactly how to remake it if I wanted to.
There is also that method that FE uses in the mission "Into the Fire", when you step on a transporter which flies you across one of miasma's rivers. It seems to do it at a consistent speed, without variation.
That is exactly what I use.
dont think i remember that one... screenshot maybe :)?
No more fake dropship flights if we can help it in CP. The tools and powers have been presented to us and I think if I get back into ODF mode, It'll be cake.
There are plenty of ways to do it. Sernesis has two moving dropship scenes. One is you being airlifted off of the roof of a moving stolen frieght train that the Black Cerberi are overrunning, and the other is after you are chased down a valley by a cerberi gone mad, and have to blitz it down the canyon and use the ramp of the terrain to jump into the dropships cargo hold as it flies past.
The technique is known as the 'Barn Swallow' :P.
While the assets arn't done for this yet, both are definately do-able.
Hell, even I got a moving dropship. ME. Back when I had 3dsmax and *somehow* got the animation to go through =/
It was funny when I accidentally made it disappear at the last frame, and you fell from a large height. Oh well.
Raven, you know we found how to do animation in any Max version past 3 right?
Look on www.bzcommand.com for the turorial.
IIRC it is as picky as hell and is hit or miss most of the time unless you go labcoat and goggles on it.
Moving, functional dropships definitely add immersive points to any map or mod or campaign or whatever. I'm glad it isn't as limited as before.
Also, I am a bit surprised that collision planes follow animations. I always assumed animations would lose it and send you falling through it.
Ah I don't have the program any more anyway and I can't find the disk, so no worries. Its not like I need it anyway really, I never got on with it, I just used it as a middle man to get a working .xsi for bz2.
In max, to animate, set your animation controllers to TCB.
