Ok so i have Windows Vista on my laptop, i took my battle zone 2 cd and tried installing it and i got this:
the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running bla bla bla check with the publisher
IS it possible to install BZ2 on vista?
If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows (XP, Vista, 7), the installer cannot be run because it's a 16 bit app.
Best solution: install to a computer running a 32-bit OS, and copy the installed folder to a USB memory stick or the like to your 64-bit OS. Then, patch it up.

hahaha i love how that works with old games. ill try that thanks
Just an FYI - BZ2 installs and runs without issue on Vista x64 & 7 x64.
When installing to either of these OSes, make sure to use the Setup.exe located in the Setup directory on the CD and Run as Administrator.
Also, use Run as Administrator when installing patches (1.3pb3, pb4a, TA5, etc..).
I always copy the entire CD to a hard drive, network drive, or USB drive, then I follow the procedure above to install.
Also, configure the shortcut to Run as Administrator and XP SP2 Compatibility.
If you run into any issues, reply or PM me. :-D
well usually i dont have any problems and when i click run the installer(as admin) it just said it wasnt compatible and gave no other options
but i tried copying the install and running it as 95 compatibility that didnt work...
the trick with just copying it from my old xp worked brilliantly :D i love old games
The BZ2 installer is 16 bit, which is guaranteed to NOT work on a 64-bit OS. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282423 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/282423) or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896458 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896458) .
And, no, Pandemic did not create that installer.

ok well, it works all the mods work and its all good except one thing...
the ctrl+~ doenst bring up the commands..... (yes i use codes sometimes deal with it)
none of the versions from 1.0-1.2-1.3pb4a-1.3t5a will that command work... is it a vista bug or what?
Try http://www.bzuniverse.com/forum/index.php/topic,9448.0.html (http://www.bzuniverse.com/forum/index.php/topic,9448.0.html) , which has suggestions that are also in 1.3ta5's readme13.rtf file. Perhaps that other thread should be sticky, and the 'nvidia sky bug' should be unstickied now that ta5 fixes that.
-- GSH
i would only sticky if if there is a guaranteed fix, that thread seems a bi lost to me...
the thing that makes the most sence, would be use AutoHotkeys to 'change' the ~ to another key
sounds perfect cept im not a wiz with code, can anyone give me a quick run through on how to make the ~ recognized when say i hit f12?
Try this (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_console_commands#Other_bugs), which is in the second post
How the hell is a Fallout3 Wiki page which says to do something BZ2 cannot do and has NO relevance to running a 16bit installer on a 64bit OS helpful?
The thread discussion morphed to be about the ~ key, which other games are also having issues with.
-- GSH
Ah, ok, thank you for clearing that up.
Yea, tried the autohotkey fix..... f12 does recognize as a ~ but in the game ctrl+F12 wont bring up a menu....
excuse the double post, but i wanted to bump this to make sure it gets noted:
the fix that worked:
Open up the "Start" menu, go into "Control Panel" > "System and Maintenance" > "Device Manager". Click "Human Interface Devices". If you see "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver", right-click and uninstall it
why i have no idea, but it works now thanks guys!
Because "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" thinks it owns the ~ key.
