Pretty much what the title asks. I was wondering if it would be possible to make a walker type unit but based on the pilot model, sort of like an exo-skeleton if you will.
I havent looked at it but I do know you can make it a hover craft and commandable
I tried using the pilot model as HoverCraft Class but it crash when loaded in the editor. You wouldn't happen to have a working odf laying around would you? :-D
i once tried making a pilotable pilot, but unsuccessfully.
and yes, its very easy to make a hovering one, but i must say it'd be much cooler to have one walking.

the way to make a hovering pilot:
-----
you take the "ivtank" .odf and you copy it, and name it something like,"ivpilofun", and you open it up, and in the line:
geometryName = "ivtank00.xsi"
you replace the "ivtank00" with the _skel of the pilot file.
and you will have a hovering pilot.
Yep that worked. The only problem, as you had mentioned, was the fact that they doesn't actually walk, they'll just slide around.
Make a walker with the pilot basename.
That's how we did it in BZ1 at least. Supersoldiers map consisted soley of that.
You dont have to make a pilot a hovercraft to make it commandeable... just a few additional flags and an aiProcess change will make them commandeable.
Yes, you CAN make a piloteable walker very easily. You just need to change the XSI's and animations that the ODF points to. You CAN also use weapon .xsi docks on any craft type, so you can even equip a HUGE laser rifle if you wanted to...
I know you can make a pilot commandable, what I want to make, for a better lack of words, is a vehicle with the pilot mesh, aka, you can jump in and out. The concept I was going for was to have "combat suits" that a pilot can wear and operate. One for stealth so you can sneak into an enemy base to plant explosives or one for heavy combat. Each one with advantages and disadvantages, depends on what you preference is.
It's something I was working on for a "pilot" DM map.
The pilot model is not rigged to be a walker. Walkers have all their guns attached to their head, which is its turret, the stock pilots use several turreted pieces to move torso, arms and head together. You would have to re-rig the pilot model to work as a walker, it would probably not work out well.

Be careful how you go about PDM (or SDM as its more commonly known). The addon pack has plans to included a new .dll that will allow PDM to work properly, as at the moment using the standard deathmatch.dll wont work properly.
@ MTS, didnt think about the parent objects etc...
Wouldn't you just have to take the skeleton and animate it just like you would do any other walker and put it with the right odf?
probably. The stock pilot models use the same animation/movement as scion vehicles. Think of a pilot having more similarity to a mauler then an isdf walker.
walker class uses a turret, like an assault tank does, you have to keep the gun attached to the turret or it cannot shoot.
so you would need to make the pilot turn at the waist, or animate his arms and head to turn, the stock pilot only looks up and down, it does not turret sideways,I can't see that twisting the pilot model would look good. It would probably be allot easier to make a whole new model that is designed to turret sideways
