Title: shell command to create a nav?
Post by: TheJamsh on October 03, 2009, 04:14:43 PM
im looking for a (possibly non-existent) console command to 'create a nav'.

Its for a newkeys idea so that pre-named navs can be placed. The naming was easy to change, but actually placing it isnt.

Don't think such a thing exists.

Seems that way indeed... the only reference to navs i could find was in the key binding .cfg's, "nav_beacon". But that was it.

However, "control.satellite.name" can be key-bound, so i have some keys that will change the name of the next nav you place the regular way, that will do the job i think.

Its mainly for thug purposes, seeing as they dont have relay bunker access.

i'm not sure if it's possible... sounds like it'd be hard to make too..

why don't thugs have relay bunker access? i always thought they did...  :-o

not unless you built it with an owning constructor (only available in commandos thug rec variant atm). Other than that no they never had relay bunker access.

What i have done, is set up a 'newkeys' type file, and it has preset nav names you can bind in with key commands (you can view them by opening the console, but i think i may make it print a message to the window). Currently, nav names are 'service', 'home base', 'enemy base' 'scrap pool', 'stage point' and 'hold point'. Ive found it really useful.

That's neat, Jamsh. You should merge it with newkeys and release it with your pack, maybe use the ctrl+numpad combination since that one is unused so far.

waaay ahead of yah :).

I've used alt, ctrl, shift combinations for the numpad newkeys. Some of the keys have voice-overs too. I believe the nav toggling uses ALT and the numpad if i remember correctly...

My suggestion would be having a whole set of Numpad keys (either the CRTL, ALT or SHIFT ones) bound to different names. Maybe the greek alphabet (would be good considering the heavy greek influence on BZ), the NATO alphabet, normal letters, numbers... anything really. Greek letters is best though. Nav Alpha, Nav Beta, etc.

Greek alphabet wouldnt be very useful in heated situations... trying to remember if alpha or delta is youre service bay, or the enemy base. May as well just keep using nav1 nav2 etc.

Yeah. Greek would make it seem more professional though.

Do you have the binds set to echo the selected nav names to the chat window? as well as a bind to set the nav name back to the default 'nav'? If not you should. It wouldnt be so great to have to remember all the names of the nav naming keys before being able to use them properly.
